As it says in the title. Is there a game you speedrun that you WOULDN'T recommend to other runners for any reason? Maybe because of length, difficulty, crappy mechanics, bad music, et cetera et cetera.

LiveSplit is the most commonly used, although any timer can take some getting used to. You can look up videos on how to set it up and use it properly.

Welcome Justin! Best of luck in your quest for the 1:00:xx! And it's nice to see a potential LM3 runner. Have you spedrun LM Dark Moon or the original LM before?

SDA was the primary place to submit speedruns, following the rather restrictive Twin Galaxies. It's still around and somewhat active, but due to newer websites (such as our very own Speedrun.com) that have proven to be more accessible to newcomers, SDA has become less prominent than it once was.

It's just the natural progression of things, not really due to one deciding factor that I'm aware of. The speedrunning community has never come to a singular website anyway, as a number of prominent games have their own speedrun websites, like Mario Kart and Mega Man.

I could probably name many impressive, high stakes speedruns I love if I really thought about it. But a favorite speedrun that always comes to mind is Puwexil and Essentia's Final Fantasy VI run from SGDQ 2014. I remember watching it live and just feeling so simultaneously relaxed and engaged. It really made me appreciate RPG speedruns and long speedruns in general. I think they can be underrated due to their length, and for not always being constant, heart-pumping action for the audience. But I think they're pretty impressive.

Favorite speed game depends on the day, but I'm really enjoying Lilo & Stitch (GBA) at the moment. Favorite to watch (and play tbh) for the past couple of months has been rando runs and races, like ZOoTR and KH2FM Rando!

Thanks to the creator of the TAS, there's a way to skip the autoscroller prior to the final boss. If you press A twice within 6 frames, you can clip into the ground or ceiling. This isn't humanly possible by spamming A, but it's easy with a simple pause buffer.

You just have to make sure you keep holding right as you do this trick, and only let go of it when the first mosquito is about to finish his first flurry of shots. It's not too difficult to time, but if you want to go for a safer strat, just never let go of right. It costs about 5 seconds but you should hit the "end level" trigger everytime.

Emulators are allowed, but I recommend you 'View Rules' for further information.

A couple of weeks ago, I requested mod status for https://www.speedrun.com/liloandstitchgba . Since then, the supermod's account has been deleted, so I would like to request that I be given supermod status instead, if that's alright. Thank you!

Y'know that one game that you pick up and play, have a lot of fun with, maybe even discover some cool tricks or glitches, only to find out no one speedruns it? I'd love to hear about them! I'm always on the lookout for hidden speedrun gems. I would love to try out suggestions from you guys. And maybe this thread can be for finding and sharing these lesser known games with the community!

My underrated game is Cyber Cross. I'm a fan of Sentai, so I decided to give it a shot, and it was more fun than I expected. To my surprise, despite being released over 30 years ago, no one speedruns it! It's fun casually, but I found it even more fun as a speed game. I'm excited to lower the time further and further.

What about you guys? What's your underrated speed game?

@Timmiluvs Yeah, that generally seems to be the case. I was just wondering if some runners had cool reasons for it, like maybe they run older games because they enjoy the subpixel tricks that you don't find as often newer games. Stuff like that. I know I lean more into retro games for pixel-specific tricks, and how they can often have so many places and ways to get OoB, like Donkey Kong 64 and Ocarina of Time. When I do run newer games, I find it's because there's a lot of fast and complex menu-ing the runner can do, which is a lot of fun to me.

@Timmiluvs I'm not assuming anything. This is simply directed at people who do run a specific era of games and might have an interesting reason for it. It was just out of innocent curiosity. I apologize that it came off as divisive.

This is just something I'm curious about, that I'd love to hear about from you guys.

To speedrunners of retro games: What draws you to running retro games, and why are you turned away from running modern games?

To speedrunners of modern games: What draws you to running modern games, and why are you turned away from retro games?

I enjoy speedrunning games from any era, so I'd like to hear why some runners prefer one over the other. Thanks!

This game is relatively straightforward, but having a No Super Punch category might be favorable, considering that it can one-shot or two-shot every boss in the game excluding the final boss.

And also considering there's some pretty cool kills you can get on bosses using the powerup weapons, mainly the boomerang on the Lobster boss, where you can time your boomerang to glide across the screen on top of the Lobster, allowing you to two-cycle him.

There could also be some cool challenge categories, like Pacifist, or No Hit. If you're interested in running any of these categories, or you have a solid category idea of your own, let me know! (Although I discourage meme categories.)

A glitch I discovered while routing the speedrun for this game. You need the red sword powerup, and you need to be on your last star. Then attack an enemy right when it attacks you at the same time as another enemy (or something in the environment) damages you. So you attack, an enemy attacks, and another enemy hits, all on relatively the same frame.

You will lose your powerup, but then certain enemies who come within range of you will die, and at the same time, you'll take damage. This glitch goes away the next time you jump or attack. And you can only recreate this glitch in certain spots due to it requiring specific enemy positions.

I was able to do it on the 2nd level of stage 6 (the enemy base), where it affected walking enemies, not just jumping enemies, and it even broke open a powerup drone. But I wasn't able to recreate it on video.

Requesting mod status for https://www.speedrun.com/liloandstitchgba . The super mod, https://www.speedrun.com/user/snaggletut , has not been active in 5 years, has only verified one run in the past 4 years in the boards they mod, has never run Lilo And Stitch, has not logged on in over a month, and has not responded to on and off-site contact. Thanks in advance.
