Thread: The Site

It sounds like 3 would be expensive, based on what you said. I think that this is a great idea, and 1 or 4 sound like good options.

for now I can only record decently on emu; not sure if I'd definitely end up running it, but I would certainly be more likely

we actually just opened up a discord if you want to join. Feel free to post anything you had there on this. - https://discord.gg/wuMWbUP

After you complete 1 loop, that counts as beating the game, and you can start-select out back to the menu and go to the next game.

Thread: The Site

Hi, can I get mine changed to " garbanzcurity " ? Thanks :)

100% is much more optimized than any%.

I also ran this for Retro Raisers(7:54)

I feel that AGDQ will be the best chance to give this game more exposure; authorblues and I will probably be primarily doing commentary, and we'll try to have really good commentary, to make it a memorable run. Also, I feel that if the marathon run keeps the speedshoes for a long time, it will look fun to the audience.

Afterwards, if I keep doing runs of this(any% or all bosses) immediately after the event, people will get to know the game better too, and I can promote other speedrunners of this. :)

For anyone reading this who doesn't know, the run will be on Wednesday, 1/11, at about 7 AM ET #shamelessselfpromotion OpieOP

Indi gefällt das.
Thread: On The Ball

Actually, after discussion, the rules have been changed to not allow resetting on all courses, or the individual planes.

Thread: On The Ball

yeah, I agree; in that case, I'll change the all courses rules to just simply require you to reach the goal on every level

Thread: On The Ball

I'm not saying that the credits possibly should be part of the timing. The problem is, the way the rules are now, after beating all the courses of the last plane in a speedrun, you won't actually get the ending, because the game doesn't consider the courses to be beaten, because you reset too early. I'm thinking that maybe the rules for last plane and all courses should require you to meet the criteria to get the ending, which they currently don't with the current rules.

Thread: On The Ball

In this game, there's actually an ending if you beat all of the courses in the last plane. The only thing is, to get the ending, the game has to consider the courses as being beaten, which doesn't happen until you get to the ranking screen of that specific course. I'm wondering if I should require the all courses and last plane categories to get the ending. Additionally, There is a screen with a password for the next plane at the end of the other planes, and those could be considered as "endings", and those are achieved under the same conditions, so maybe those should be required too. What do y'all think?

Actually, I'm the only person who speedruns this particular category(except for a run back in SGDQ 2012). The main problem with this game for speedrunning is that nothing saves for many of the levels unless you let the time run out, so I don't know how feasible 100% would be for speedrunning.

Thread: On The Ball

From timing the ranking screen earlier, it took about 11 seconds or so, so with 15 ranking screens, it takes a total of 11¤15=165 seconds=2:45, and skipping the animations also takes some time. I'll also probably look into JAP differences(unrelated: the final level in the JAP version is different)

I've added IL categories for each course, and I'll remove the separate categories for ILs when all of the runs get reposted under the IL category. As far as in-game time goes, I'm pretty sure that it's not necessary to input your ingame time anyway, so I don't think it's a big deal.

PS: It's cool to see someone else take an interest in this game :)

Thread: On The Ball

Thanks for the input. It would be more convenient to just use the level select cheat, but the main problem with that is that the cheat doesn't save after resetting, and you would have to sit through the ranking screens, which would cost about 3-4 minutes in the all courses run. I don't know if it would still be faster overall to use the level select. I think that it would be good to allow level select, though.

For gravity mode, you can set it to whichever category is most convenient for that particular course. It is, admittedly, pretty arbitrary, so I didn't include it as an official category.

The in-game time really makes more sense for the individual courses, because it would be inconvenient to add up all of the times for longer categories. I think that I'm going to split the individual courses up into ILs. The reason for using the time records code is as a way to verify that you've beaten each level.

I feel that everyone may not be aware of which emulators are allowed, so I wanted to make sure to clarify. I simply copied whichever emulators were banned on SRL. SNES9x v1.50 and up are allowed, but older versions aren't, because they aren't always accurate, and may run faster than an actual SNES.

Twogood, your input is welcome as well.

Thread: On The Ball

There are actually 4 planes in this game. You get a password after beating all the courses in 1 section, which allows you to open the next plane, which has completely new levels. This makes a total of 16 courses, not 4, and 100 tracks. I believe that the all courses category should be all courses in all the planes, given this. The all courses category could be renamed first plane.
