There's already been someone who's done HRC speedruns, (although with barrier). The goal would just be to simply get to a set score i.e. 50K ft. (or 100K ft. but that'd be pretty hard to do) in the shortest amount of time. Simple enough.

A thing that has been bothering me on this site is the fact that a lot of videos are missing in the leadersboards. Ofc, this is not directly this site's fault, as it is obviously up to the runner if they want to keep their video up or not, or if they will bother to put it on youtube or whatnot, but when I see a run with an absurd time, but with no video or a video that's not working, I get disappointed. Is there a way to decrease the amount of videos that go offline of all runs in some way, i.e. by making stricter rules when submitting a run, or by creating a back-up video for the records, that only moderators or the runner can remove? Idk, it would just make things a lot easier at times.

It's been a while since I ran this mode, so I might not remember to include everything notable, here's at least some tips that I can think of.

Other than having auto L-canceling on, wavedash onto platforms and using items enemies drop smart, you should:

Kirbycide against Mario, Save Zelda (so you can use Sheik later), Pit is faster than Mario, go for the 50/50 chance of getting a good mushroom on the first item-box at "the jungle" stage, Use MK > Marth > Ike, do "turn around jumps" with Squirtle on all his levels (as you move really fast by doing so), use Yoshi > Link, Pikachu > ZSS...

There's probably way more things to cincider and that should be remembered, but I can't think of much more at the moment. Usually you can guess what's fast and what's not and you could always use the other runs here as reference.

I've noticed that no runs in any category have been with either Giga Bowser or Wario Man (or SoPo for that matter). I also see that you cannot choose them when submitting a run. Are these characters banned? I don't really see any reason as of why we should not include them, as they are a part of the game/mod and meant to be accessible. I guess you could argue that they are VERY overpowered (excluding SoPo) and removes a lot of the skill, but apart from that, what are the reasons they are not included, and would it be reasonable to add them in the relevant categories?

I understand the problem - The lack of a consistent definition. I'll probably do a 100% run in the future sometime, but I don't think it will have a high priority, as I will be focusing more on the glitchless run. Speaking of which (I am going off topic here, but), what defines a glitch? I'm just gonna ask that because there's a couple of things which are borderline and I am not sure if it is allowed or not. Such as:

  • Sometimes when you jump down stairs or on a slope, your vertical speed adds onto your horiontal speed for a brief moment. Is this not allowed to do, and if so, what if it accidently happens during a glitchless run?
  • In the Mourge, if you quickly open the door after vaccinating yourself, you skip the brute encounter.
  • Sometimes (at random) some dialogues in the cutscenes/flashbacks are skipped, (haven't found anything that triggers it/avoids it).
  • At the end of the game in the Chancel, after throwing a rock into the machine, a Brute is supposed to spawn, but can be skipped if you just head for the exit/Inner Sanctum right away.
  • Spamming the jump-button on certain places to jump on walls or similar things, in order to get to higher places faster or more efficiently.
  • In the first Prison part, when you hear the Brute the first time, you are supposed to be slowed down, but if you drag a rock across the floor, you can go at full speed. Is that a glitch?

And possibly more... So would it be possible to just clear that up?

Well, I'm not a 100% sure what exactly causes this, but it might be because you run the game on high quality. Personally, I always play it with the lowest resolution, shadow-resolution and graphics before strating the game and have never experienced those lag spikes. I'm not sure if you are, or are going to speedrun this or if you are playing it just to enjoy it, but you could try to lower some of the resolution / graphics while playing, but that may also make your experience in this game slightly worse (imo "the worst graphics" you can use is still pretty good, lol). Also, it makes the loading screens take WAY less time to load. So try to find the perfect point in-between high-quality and without the lag spike. Hope this helped!

Hey, I just wanted to know if it would be possible to have a category for a 100% run in this game. I guess there's very little interest, but I still think it would be cool to have some runs like that here. So if this becomes a thing, we also need to know what qualifies as a 100% run. I think all or some of this is what we should use to define a 100% run:

All Tinderboxes, All Oi Potions, All Notes, All Laudanum All Items (Including Weyer's Tonic?).

While things like: All Barrel Oils, All Mementos and All Monsters / monster hallucinations should not be required

Thougts?

Hey guys, I have taken a look at the records both at regular SSBB and PM and have noticed that the runs can be improved significantly. I will mainly focus on the SSBB story mode, as I have played it a couple of times (and also because PM story mode freezes at some specific locations...). It doesn't seem like this forum is too active, but I guess it would only be fair to share everything I have at the moment, and eventually discuss new strats if possible.

First things first. I think we shouldn't specify that the runs is, or has to be, on easy mode. This is because any other difficulty would produce close results, and an any% run is only about trying to do it as fast as possible, regardless of which difficulty it is being played at. The strats I have is very similar to those that a Japanese player known as "Key2019" had, when he made a segmented run of this game on intense which clocked in at 1:50 (in-game time). The main difference between my strats, is that I don't use Stickers (I see this as semi-New Game+). I would only allow the use of stickers if you delete all of your data at the game so you don't have any stickers and use only those you get during the run (which is a really unviable strategy, but could work. The bat would be the best sticker, then the Beam Sword). Anyways, I want you to take notes on the run Key2019 did and try to replicate most of the skips he uses, on the difficulty you want to play at (probably Easy). Here's a link the the first part of his run:

Note that on the Skyworld level, right after Mario joins you and you fall down onto the Purple moving platform, I glide beneath the stage (saves a lot of time). You should also practise that. I also use Sheik's Side-B much more frequent to get onto ledges quickly, especially on the Halberd ship. Lastly, I only use Meta Knight throughout the entire Great Maze, this can be optimized.

Here's a list of the places where you can skip battles, "Easy/Medium/Hard" means how difficult it is, in my experience it is to pull of the skips. Skyworld (last area, with Pit, Hard) The Battlefield Fortress (lots of places, with Meta Knight, Hard) The Path to the Ruins (at the very beginning, with Lucas, Easy) The Wilds I (while climbing on mountainside, with Meta Knight, Easy) The Wilds II (Staged fight #3, with Pit, Medium) Entrance to Subspace (After destroying the 3 portals, with Meta Knight, Hard)

¤The research facility (at the end, with Pikachu, only on Very Hard/intense difficulty, slightly luck reliant)

In the Great Maze you can quit the story mode and re-enter it to skip backtracking, it is very helpful. My current PB is at 2h 19m 40s on Easy, which is quite a bit better than the best one here. I think a more optimal run would be at 2:18, as I did some big mistakes and had a horrible Tabuu fight. I didn't record the run, since I lack the equipment, but I'll figure something out eventually. Hope this helps!

Well, the idea is cool, but also problematic, imo. If we create a new category for normal, shoudn't we do the same for all the other difficulties? In that case we'd end up with 5 categories on both single player and co-op mode, and an underwhelming amount of runners for each category. We could of course only make a category for normal, but that would be slightly weird.

What I think would be best is to, just like when selecting what console or region, you should be able to select what difficulty you play on and have that count as a regular run and be compared to all other runs. btw, there comes some advantages when playing on a higher difficulty; while it is harder to beat enemies and bosses, autoscrollers gets faster, and you can even do many more damage boosts than you normally could. In fact, the best time for a segmented run was at 1:50 on Intense difficulty. All in all, I do not see any problems with running on Normal or any other difficulty, but it should not be a separate category. So we should call this category "Subspace Solo/Co-op Any%" instead of having "Easy" at the end of it, and then we just pick which difficulty it was at each individual run. That's just what I think anyways.
