That's completely fair, I can see the somewhat stagnant game being a bit of a demotivator. If anything I'm a collector first and a speedrunner second (lmfao) so it's not out of the question that I can just get both the drive emulator and gba cart and do the testing and post findings. I think with that I'd have access to every legal form of play.

...I probably should uhh... start running it first outside of a few casual refresher playthroughs and online research but I'm trying to find myself an excuse to play it on the FDS and half the fun is labbing stuff anyways haha.

I was curious on if anyone had any experience with running this game on a native FDS but with a drive emulator and noticed there was a "Flash Cart (for FDS)" section for giving time so figured it was worth asking.

I like practicing segments and parts on an emulator for convenience but always try to go back to native hardware whenever I'm doing full runs if I can help it. Getting a driver emulator (specifically the FDSStick) has been on my purchase list for some time, so I figured this would be the direction I would go with rather than buying a GBA cart and the idea of using my Murasame disk for speedrunning gives me a heart attack after replacing the last drive belt... along with much more likely loading time loss.

Does anyone know what the load time differences are between GBA, WiiVC, FDS and FDS on a drive emulator or flash cart? Thanks for any help!

I can see the fun in finding something and being the only one who knows it and then developing it for a bit, but keep in mind that once you submit a run that breaks a category due to the discovery everyone who wants to do it in the future will want to emulate what you did and watch your submission. In that sense I think it's fine to feel good about the discovery, have that moment where it nets you WR and then be ready for someone who potentially runs it faster to add it to their game. Just because no one really runs it NOW doesn't mean someone may want to run it eventually and get really good at it... now if you're talking do everything in your power to keep it under wraps and make it difficult to understand how to replicate on purpose in your submission that feels kinda scummy. Really and the historian in me says it's always nice to document these things, but that I can settle on being a me thing.

Just my two cents.

I'd imagine even some 18+ games due to sexually explicit content could be alright depending on the conditions. HuniePop has an existent sized running base despite it's 18+ sexual content and it being prohibited by Twitch. I'm curious on what game you had in mind unless you're wondering in general.

I've strongly considered donating to help keep the lights on here and I really enjoy the perks they give to show appreciation without them being ludicrus. They're just a small visual thing to enjoy and that's really cool.

Random lurker here who will be likely running this game soon. Just wanted to add, really appreciate the work that went into the route information and autosplitter!

It's already quite fun just starting out! Playing something fast or a particular way is one thing and nothing I'm unfamiliar with but tracking how you're improving, dissecting every little part and then not seeing just those 5 seconds from a part or 3 minutes from a split but the whoooole thing come together and then seeing seconds come off the next time and knowing how big that is are all great feelings. :D

Thanks for the welcomes guys!

Hello world! Figured I'd drop an introductory now that I abandoned my lurking ways and made an account.

I've been playing games for as long as I can remember and between me and my brother it was always a thing to see how quickly or efficiently we could complete a game we shared a similar interest in... as I got older speed running has always been a thing I've wanted to do for fun in the back in my mind but for some reason I never pulled the trigger. Well that changed a couple days back when Youtube autoplayed into SummoningSalt's World Record Progression series and I got thinking, "why haven't I ever gotten into this again?"

So here I am. I started running Metal Slug X and once I'm comfortable with it want to branch off into 1 and 4. I'm also interested in Nazo no Murasame Jou as well as finding a very active 2D game (given everything I'm interested in has a tiny runner base) that's not too RNG based. (Any recommendations? Lol)

That was a bit of a ramble... uh, hi!
