TRA Autosplitter - Guide

Note: This guide is for the latest version (v5.0).


**1) A guide for an autosplitter? Why?**

After having the autosplitter tested and talking to several people, it seems like some people can get lost in the many options in the autosplitter has. I'll try to have them grouped when you guys open it, but still it seems like some orientation is needed (despite the tips for each split) as to what to tick or untick and what everything does.


**2) How to get the autosplitter working:**

There are two methods of doing this: 

2.1. - Download the file from the Resources section here, then right click on LiveSplit's interface and select -> Edit Layout... -> (+) -> Control -> Scriptable Auto Splitter, then on that same Layout Editor window go to Layout Settings -> Scriptable Auto Splitter -> Browse... and select the .asl file (you'll have to unzip the file first after downloading it).

2.2. - Right click on LiveSplit's interface, go to Edit Splits..., then type "Tomb Raider: Anniversary" on Game Name, then "Activate" and then "OK".


**3) Adjusting the options and what they mean:**

You can adjust the splits you want to use in Layout Settings -> Scriptable Auto Splitter once it's loaded. The options are:

[center]I. Autostart (automatically starts when one of the following options is chosen):[/center]
*-When you gain control of Lara in Caves:* Pretty self-explanatory, it starts when the player gains control of Lara for the first time in Caves, regardless of if you're loading a 0:00:00 save or starting a New Profile. Enabled by default.
*-When you gain control of Lara in the Croft Manor:* Again, it starts when the player gains control of Lara for the first time in the Croft Manor, provided the timer is 0. Enabled by default.
*-Only when the first cutscene in Caves starts:* Timer starts a bit before the player gains control of Lara for the first time in Caves, only once the first cutscene in Peru starts. Disabled by default.
*-Only when the first cutscene in the Croft Manor starts:* Timer starts a bit before the player gains control of Lara for the first time in the Croft Manor, only once the first cutscene starts. Disabled by default.

[center]II. Autoresets (automatically resets the timer when one of the following conditions is satisfied):[/center]
*-Uncheated Engine (beta):* resets upon detecting some forms of cheating such as manipulating the in-game timer or using TRAFly (to an extent). This is an early version so it's capable of detecting simple stuff only. Thought to help for live verifications of runs. Disabled by default.
*-Lara dies:* resets when Lara dies, even in QTEs. Disabled by default.
*-When loading the 0:00:00 file:* it's set to reset when you're loading the file in Peru with an in-game time of 0 seconds. Enabled by default.
*-Restarting Croft Manor:* resets when restarting the Croft Manor, thought for 100% runs. Disabled by default.

[center]III. Autosplits (automatically splits when a condition is satisfied):[/center]
__A) Any% No Bug Jump (enabled by default, as well as all of its options)__

*Peru*
  -Mountain Caves - Inside: adds a split when you get inside the caves after the first doors.
  -Mountain Caves - Last Room: adds a split when you reach the last room in Caves with the darts and the big gate.
  -Vilcabamba Warp: splits when you reach the next area, the one past the first bear.
  -The Lost Valley: splits when you reach the endscreen for Vilcabamba.
  -Tomb of Qualopec - Way in: splits when you enter the tomb.
  -Tomb of Qualopec - Way out: splits after you trigger the cutscene on Qualopec's throne room.
 *Greece*
  -St. Francis Folly - Entrance: splits when you enter the level.
  -St Francis Folly - Vertical Room: splits when you reach the huge vertical room with the switches and the doors leading to the deities' rooms.
  -The Coliseum: splits when you exit the vertical room towards the Coliseum.
  -Midas' Palace: splits when you get the endscreen for the Coliseum.
  -Tomb of Tihocan: splits when you reach the tomb's entrance even if you OoB (at the small box room).
  -Centaur fight: splits once the Centaur boss fight starts.
 *Egypt*
  -Temple of Khamoon: splits when you start the level.
  -Sanctuary of Scion - Entrance: splits when you enter the first room of the level, past the big doors.
  -Sancturay of Scion - First Half: splits when you enter the Sphinx's room.
 *Atlantis*
  -Natla's Mines - Entrance: splits when you start the level.
  -Natla's Mines - First Half: splits upon entering the lava room.
  -The Great Pyramid - Entrance: splits upon loading the first area of this level.
  -The Great Pyramid - Top of the Pyramid: splits once you get on top of the shaft, before the clone room.
  -The Final Conflict: splits when the level starts.
  -The Final Conflict - Natla fight 1: splits when the first phase of the fight starts.
  -The Final Conflict - Natla fight 2: splits when the second phase of the fight starts.
  -The Final Conflict - Ending: final split when you get the endscreen of this level.

**Note:** the statement made at 2:30 is no longer true, as of v5.0 you can get that split regardless of OoB/airwalk.


__B) 100% (disabled by default):__
*100%*
  -Autosplits whenever you pick an artifact/relic. Includes final split.
   -Autosplits at the end of each chapter (Peru/Greece/Egypt)

__C) By level (disabled by default):__
*By level*
  -Typical split at the end of each level. Prevents unwanted splits when loading saves from different levels during the run. Includes Croft Manor for 100% runs.

__D) Alt + F4 (disabled by default):__

*a. Glitchless*
  -Provides an alternative "level" split method, thought for glitchless runners who use Alt + F4 (this was already implemented and being tested before  Alt + F4 was discussed/voted). The splits for each level are:

*Peru*
  -Mountain Caves: splits when you get to the last stairs before the bear and the adrenaline dodge tutorial.
  -Vilcabamba: splits when you reach the Lost Valley's entrance.
  -The Lost Valley: splits when you enter Qualopec's Tomb.
  -Tomb of Qualopec: splits after all the cutscenes in Qualopec's Tomb.
 *Greece*
  -St. Francis Folly: splits once you've used all four keys and the gate opens.
  -The Coliseum: splits at Midas' Palace entrance.
  -Midas' Palace: splits once you use all three gold bars.
  -Tomb of Tihocan: splits after all the cutscenes in Tihocan's Tomb.
 *Egypt*
  -Temple of Khamoon: splits when Lara enters the next level.
  -Obelisk of Khamoon: splits when you Alt + F4 the level endscreen.
  -Sancturay of Scion: splits after all the cutscenes in the Sanctuary.
 *Atlantis*
  -Natla's Mines: splits after activating the switch to open the last gate.
  -The Great Pyramid: splits when the Torso boss fight starts.
  -The Final Conflict: splits the game is beaten, when it always does.

 *b. NBJ*
  -Provides an alternative "level" split method ONLY for The Lost Valley/The Coliseum/The Final Conflict endscreens. For NBJ runners who use Alt + F4.

*c. BTG*
  -Provides an alternative "level" split method, thought for BTG runners who use Alt + F4. The splits for each level are:

*Peru*
  -Mountain Caves: splits when you get to the last stairs before the bear and the adrenaline dodge tutorial.
  -Vilcabamba: splits when you reach the Lost Valley's entrance.
  -The Lost Valley: splits when you enter Qualopec's Tomb.
  -Tomb of Qualopec: splits after all the cutscenes in Qualopec's Tomb.
 *Greece*
  -St. Francis Folly: splits once you get past SFF's gate.
  -The Coliseum: splits at Midas' Palace entrance.
  -Midas' Palace: splits once you get out of the water, where you start Tihocan's Tomb using "Replay Level".
  -Tomb of Tihocan: splits after all the cutscenes in Tihocan's Tomb.
 *Egypt*
  -Temple of Khamoon: splits when Lara enters the Sanctuary, past the big doors.
  -Sancturay of Scion: splits after all the cutscenes in the Sanctuary.
 *Atlantis*
  -Natla's Mines: splits after activating the switch to open the last gate.
  -The Great Pyramid: splits when the Torso boss fight starts.
  -The Final Conflict: splits the game is beaten, when it always does.

If you use Alt + F4 to close the menus more quickly, you'll want to tick this as well as unticking all other splits (if running glitchless/BTG) OR ticking all Any% No Bug Jump options EXCEPT "The Lost Valley", "Midas' Palace" and "The Final Conflict - Ending" which should be unticked.

**4) Other:**

Remember that you can download the splits from the Resources section for the NBJ and 100% categories. Splits for Glitchless and BTG might be coming soon.

**5) Troubleshooting:**

Please check this before reporting anything regarding the autosplitter:

*Q: If I untick an option from "Any % No Bug Jump", will it stop working as a whole?*
A: No, unticking one (or more) of the splits for that category doesn't stop other (ticked) splits from working.

*Q: Can I use splits from several categories?*
A: You can but it's not recommended as it can cause double splits in some places. The only "mix" that's recommended is Any% No Bug Jump and Alt + F4 -> NBJ -> Alternative... and disabling "The Lost Valley", "Midas' Palace" and "The Final Conflict - Ending" under Any% No Bug Jump if you use Alt + F4 trick. 

*Q: I'm getting more than one split at the same place in No Bug Jump (NBJ) or in Glitchless!*
A: All of the NBJ and Alt + F4 splits are set to only happen once, so check that you only have one instance of LiveSplit running and only one scriptable autosplitter active at the same time. Also, check you're not having all the options ticked in both "Any % No Bug Jump" and under Alt + F4 -> NBJ.

*Q: I'm getting splits in places other than where they're supposed to happen!*
A: Make sure you're not pressing the split keys during gameplay (check LiveSplit's settings) and again, make sure there aren't two autosplitters with different conditions running at the same time.

*Q: Yesterday "X" person discovered a shortcut for NBJ that skips 2 seconds and makes one split out of 23 not work, why is the latest version is not updated yet and the autosplitter not working for that?*
A: I do my best to keep the autosplitter updated, but I also have a life and, surprise, surprise, even other games to play! The NBJ splitter is daring and thought to be compatible with the fastest route possible and hence needs regular updates while TRA is still speedran. If that's the case do tell me about it and I'll try to adapt the autosplitter.

*Q: I'm going back and forth to the same area and I'm not getting more than one split!*
A: This is normal since NBJ and Alt + F4 splits are set to only happen once each. 

*Q: I'm just loading saves with the timer on instead of speedrunning and I don't get "X" split!*
A: This is normal for some splits, since the splitter keeps track of Lara's whereabouts and won't bother splitting if the path followed is not that of a speedrun.

*Q: I'm not getting "X" split!*
A: This is probably a settings issue. Check that you have checked the splits you want to use and understand where and when they're supposed to happen, as sometimes it's simply not getting a split where one thinks they'll happen instead of where they're set to happen. The other possible cause is that you're resetting manually and not selecting the proper autostart function, thus making LiveSplit keep track of the path traveled but not letting it refresh that in order to make the same splits again.

*Q: Is an Alt + F4 category needed?*
A: Apparently using Alt + F4 when a menu pops up makes it close faster but also messes up with several in-game variables, such as the level count, which means that level-based splits might not work at all if using that trick. Hence the need to have a new split category for runners who want to optimize their times as much as possible.

*Q: My craptop from 10 years ago lags when I'm playing this game while using LiveSplit, streaming on Twitch with a cam while also showing key inputs and having Facebook and WhatsApp on minimized windows and LiveSplit won't split at times!*
A: Bruh.

*Q: I'd like to see a new "X" feature implemented!*
