Idea for a run category

Hi,

I've gotten into this game pretty recently, and I've been having a fun time seeing how quickly I can beat ten sequential standard planetary heroic missions.

I think it's a pretty fun run, because it incorporates a good deal of planning, various movement and combat strategies, mission routing, and some player-dependent RNG.

Here's an example run in 21:37:

This is how I set it up: -Pre-select several missions from the heroic mission terminal on Odessen (fleet works too) -Started the timer when I hit my first mission teleport (around 30 seconds into the video). -Ended timer on hitting accept on the final mission reward. Verified completion of 10 missions with 10 alliance crates in my inventory. I think this would be 10 outlander equipment boxes for a level 60 F2P player. -Jumped around a bunch cause I beat my PB by about 4 minutes, mostly thanks to some new routing.

This was a solo run, with no cooperation from others. However, there are a few non-instanced missions that can be affected by other players' actions. One saved me some time, and the other cost me some time. Also other players tend to randomly buff you on occasion, so there's an argument to allowing a start with the four class-specific buffs to prevent random run invalidation from someone "helpful". Again, I'm pretty new to the game and not in a guild, so I'm not sure how guild bonuses would impact things. Something for the mod team to consider?

This is my first time recording gameplay video and my first ever speedrun, so I'm super happy to share this with you!

hey,

its great to hear youre enjoying the game and coming up with some new speedrunning ideas however i dont know if this would be a great category, there is alot of switching planets which means a large portion of the run is just loading screens and several of the heroics are not instanced which means there is alot of RNG depending on if other players did the heroic just before you.

feel free to join the discord and head over to the #swtor channels if you want to talk more swtor speedruning or if you have any questions.

Yeah I don't love the loading screens, but I personally actually enjoy the RNG element. It forces me to adapt on the fly to some different situations. I understand if you're not sold.

I did another run with a commentary on it explaining some of the elements that go into the run including routing and movement, which I think is pretty interesting, as well as other elements that make it fun for me and potentially fun for others. It also goes into the potential problems, like the load times and RNG. There's also different missions that can fit different characters - there's several which could be pretty fast for a DPS type of character that I don't do, and this opens some more routing options.

Here's the commentated run:

i appreciate the effort you put into this idea but i still think its not ideal, the leaderboard already has a lot of categories and this one feels like it is a bit too unspecific along with the problems i mentioned before.

i do hope you stick around and maybe give one of the existing categories a try.

To make room for categories like this and other potential categories, what if the uprisings that have no runs are taken down, if that's not feasible for solo maybe coop. The idea being removing old categories that have little to no interest for more dynamic categories that have more potential for cool strategy and optimizations, another one I have been thinking about is doing a flashpoint, all difficulties consecutively, or maybe doing 3 flashpoints as fast as possible. Rules would have to adapt of course and take out the time for loading screens but I think that would be more engaging than most flashpoints that don't have room for optimization or cheeky cuts. Just an idea though, no worries if that seems like too much.

im not opposed to removing Uprisings since there seems to be little interest in them however the level leaderboard isn't always a good place for a new category. there is also no guarantee that a new category would be any more popular, many people have come up with ideas for new categories in the past that barely anyone ended up running. as for the idea of doing multiple flashpoints in a row, i like the idea but im not sure how we would handle the downtime between flashpoints and loading screens, they could make a big difference in time and removing them would have to be done manually and would be a lot of work. feel free to think out this idea further tho if you want and if you have any more substantial ideas or other suggestions they are always welcome.
