This is the first time I got this to work, so it isn't great. I got lucky, the bounce off the wall at the end of the first lap kept me facing backwards.
The strategy requires only one wall hit. Since you are flying backwards when you respawn, you have a lot of backwards momentum. I use the shoe boost to counteract this, but it usually ends up giving me too much forward momentum. That's why the wall hit at the end of the first lap is needed.
