Any% (NTSC) runs below 4:57.000 must now fulfill additional requirements in order to be verified.
- The run's full session must be included in the submission description.
- For emulator runs below 4:57.000, some form of input display must be visible for the duration of the run. A hand-cam or input visualizer program will suffice for emulators without a built-in input display.
We have decided upon these requirements to ensure the integrity of high-level Any% submissions, so please keep them in mind if attempting a time of 4:56 or faster. Thank you.
Following investigations regarding the integrity of FCEUX submissions, the SMB1/2J moderation team has decided that FCEUX will not be permitted for future submissions, effective September 17th, 2023. Some vulnerabilities in regards to detection methods for cheating were discovered in FCEUX allowing for near undetectable TAS playback. FM2 input files and metadata are stored in plaintext and are easily modified by anyone. Along with this, user SeraphmIII discovered that movie playback can be made nearly undetectable with a single one-byte edit made to the executable file. While possible for any experienced programmer, the ease of this modification is concerning. With this in mind, the SMB1/2J moderation team does not believe that FCEUX is up to the standards of other approved emulators and therefore we will no longer accept submissions performed on it going forward.
Thank you for your understanding.
Any% All-Stars and Warpless All-Stars have been promoted to main categories alongside their NES counterparts. In addition, Glitchless is now a secondary category instead of being relegated to the Super Mario Bros. Category Extensions leaderboard.
The NTSC and PAL versions of Super Mario Bros. have finally been separated into their own leaderboards for Any% and Warpless. Please keep this in mind for future submissions, as you will have to select which version of the game you played on in the submission under "Version". Thanks.
Now that we have the option to do so, we have disabled comments on runs for the following boards:
- SMB1
- SMB1:CE
- SMB2J
- SMB2J:CE
