Category Idea: All Enemies

Rules: -Every enemy that you can kill/defeat in the game must be defeated, including ones that don’t give you coins. Includes all minibosses. -Enemies that respawn (such as bobombs, moles, and snowmen) must only be killed once -Enemies that can’t be killed (thwomps) can be ignored. -Enemies, like bobombs, that can explode on their own, must be triggered by the player and must visibly or audibly die in the run. If you trigger a bobomb and it doesn’t explode before you die or exit course, it doesn’t count. Also, if one gets hit by the bubbles in BOB, it also doesn't count. The only exception to this is the player throwing an enemy off the stage. They will die/explode on impact, and thus can be safely assumed to be killed. -Any enemies that fall off the stage on their own must still be killed by the player. They can sit on the death plane, and thus cannot be assumed to be dead just from that. This typically would require a stage reentry. -Intro skip allowed

Enemy list: https://i.imgur.com/lI1mNE8.png I'm about 95% certain I got all the killable enemies, but if I missed anything, let me know.

Anyone who does a run and posts it here will be added to this leaderboard spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Hdv2OlsdPnbbSwU4RRu4QJ8Qguf0WmEFhGXBisGLDZk/edit?usp=sharing

I was under the impression that an all enemies run would take 3-4+ hours but seeing it done in under an hour is encouraging. I love the idea of a category that visits all main stages but also introduces interesting routing not oriented toward star collection alone. My only concern is that verifying such runs will either rely heavily on the honor system or be a huge pain to fully verify (not that I have to do that anyways).

Overall this looks like an interesting challenge. I'll give it a try sometime!

Also there are 2 small piranha plants in BitS. The second one is on the black and white checkered platform before the horizontally moving elevator.

That 3-4 hour figure was exactly why I'm not 100% certain I got everything, because that was the last I'd heard, but I can't think of anything else.

YOU'RE RIGHT! How'd I forget that one? But, that's still only a few seconds added. I just can't understand where that 3-4 hour figure came from before.

Québec

Does the bits goomba that falls by himself most of the time count or hes "assumed dead"

Arizona, USA

How do you count most of the time? I rarely see it fall. If it falls down on its own, then, according to the rules I put forward, you'd have to reenter the stage to get it up there again (which I believe is no different from All Goombas). But like I said, I've almost never seen it fall, and didn't have problems with it during any of my runs or practice.

The "impossible" Goomba is omitted in the All Goombas category because it's believed to be impossible to kill. I have seen people kill it successfully in tool-assisted runs, but otherwise I am not aware of any instance of anyone ever killing it without TAS.

Arizona, USA

Ahhh, I see. All I know is that I counted the same number of goombas as All Goombas, so if that's how it is there, then that's how it is here. That would technically be classified under the "unkillable" category.

Arizona, USA

Got a new run, making sure to get the second tiny piranha plant, as well as the small koopa and its neighbor tiny goomba that I'd forgotten on the last run. 53:30 now.

Basque Country

it seems problematic for the category not to miss any enemy out of all you can find but looks fun to try

This is kind of an interesting idea. I already have some ideas for different routing in bob and ssl.

I cant promise how soon but i might be able to send you a run

Arizona, USA

No rush on the submission, I'd just like to pull in enough to put it on the leaderboard.

So i was planning on running 70 this weekend but AE turned out to be way more fun than i was expecting. really cool route and I think there's still plenty of room for optimization. Thanks for coming up with this malk, hope you get enough runs to make it official!

Awesome, Dezod! Just as a clarification, this would have been a 50, not a 49, since standard intro skip timing starts at 1 minute on file select, but that was a great run. I'll definitely have to have a look at how your routing choices compare optimally.

Arizona, USA

@Dezod I'm so sorry, but helping a friend through this category, we found a fourth snowman to kill in SL, right at the bottom of the slope people triple jump on to get to the igloo from the start. You and I both have to do another run :'(

Pennsylvania, USA

no worries, I just watched back my run and realized I forgot some enemies anyway, gonna have to run with a notepad open on my computer lol.

Also I think we both missed a bat in hmc. in the red coin room when you lj from the elevator to the skinny plat with a red coin we killed a bat there but if you look up and to the right there is another bat hanging on the ceiling, that is, above and to the right of the back up eye ball

I could be miscounting but I don't think its listed in your chart.

Edit on 2nd watch im realizing that neither of us killed the 5 plants in thi that spawn the star

Good lord, you're right. There's so many to keep track of. I know I got those piranhas in my first run. And no, that other bat was not on my list. The wonderful joys of fleshing out a new, long category XD

OK, so from what I could tell, you didn't actually miss as much as you thought. Other than the bat you found, the snowman I found, and the piranhas we both missed in THI, you only missed the pyramid flyguy in SSL and the second moneybags in SL. You got everything else known.

New PB video, 53:36. Very disappointed with this one, but it has all the enemies we know so far.

So I did a full sweep of the game. @Malkierian I'm sure you have updated it by now, but here are the discrepancies I see based off of the spreadsheet image you posted above compared to my own findings: -Backyard - 10 Boos (image says 9) -HMC - 11 bats/Swoops (image says 10) -HMC - 6 Scuttlebugs (image says 5) -THI - 2 Koopas (image says 1) -THI - 3 Flyguys (image says 2) -BitS - 2 Piranha Plants (image says 1)

I compared this to your latest run and you got everything except the 3rd Flyguy in THI. :( It is in THIH on the path that the rolling cannonballs follow.

I'm like 99% sure that is all the enemies in the game.

That aside, here are a few things I think should at least be discussed but I do not necessarily think they should become part of the ruleset, just some things to consider/clarify/flesh out:

-Should Chain Chomp in BOB be included? You can't kill him but releasing him could be counted as "defeating" him. Kind of a long shot, just something that crossed my mind -Should Bullet Bill in WF be included? Technically can't kill this either but running into it or touching it in anyway causes it to recoil in the opposite direction until it respawns. -Should Haunted Chairs in BBH be included and become a requirement? They kind of self-destruct like bob-ombs so they could just be triggered. I didn't pay much attention to this and don't know how many exist.
