So just a couple questions. Are you allowed to play on any patch of the game? Also why exactly is "Skip Cutscenes with Checkpoint" not allowed?
Skip Cutscenes with Checkpoint Does it work? because i trying make skip with checkpoint doesn't work :D and i think if it's works, make new category, like "no cutscene%"
Any% the Runner can choose to play with Patch or not, after all, with the Patches the Bugs are useless. It's up to Runner to choose whether to play with Patch or without, but I think for the Glitchless Runner the Patch would help, since it can not Bugs/Glitchs.
We had a discussion about using Save Files to skip cutscenes, but it goes against the spirit of speedrunning. So cutscenes must be viewed (unless a way to skip the cutscene is discovered).
A lot of potential speed tech has been quickly patched by Sony Santa Monica. So decisions on what patch version to use is still up in the air. At the current moment, the unpatched version may be superior over 1.16. If a dramatic difference between patches is discovered, we will discuss what to do then. For now, it's up to you guys to do patched or unpatched.
I'm still a little confused on the rules but I'm assuming something like this would be allowed right?
Also would this be allowed in glitchless since all your really doing is restarting checkpoint
I think using checkpoint retry to skip cutscenes is allowed. I don't really see a reason why it wouldn't be allowed? Perhaps the wording on the rules is just a bit unclear.
I changed the rules so that there was less confusion. This is definitely allowed.
Just wanted to raise a question about where any% run timing ends. Right now, it ends at the prompt at Kratos' bed. However, there is a case to be made for potentially changing it:
-
according to the menu, the game is "complete" after scattering the ashes. All quest lines are closed, with no objective or indication you should even go to Kratos' house. It could be argued that going to sleep is an easter egg or a hidden ending, and that in any% the timing should be ended at an earlier point somewhere in the section when the ashes are scattered.
-
there is a danger of getting a softlock right after spreading the ashes in the unpatched version of the game. The dwarves don't start their dialogue and Kratos is stuck in the Shop area forever. Although it's unknown thus far if this softlock could be prevented in any way, it's a huge deterrent to making unpatched runs with the current timing. (Like what happened to Mattmatt10111.)
Recently with the arrival of PC, we have managed to have an AutoSplitter and LoadRemover made by the community, but console runners would still have problems. So it is mandatory from now on to always have a timer present on the screen since any run that does not have a timer will be rejected withou
