Pioneering a category in Doom Eternal

Hey guys, I'm madlymaxt and I LOOOOOVE Doom Eternal. I love it so much that I have recently done a particular type of speedrun that I think would be great as a category in Doom Eternal. It's a Ultra Nightmare No Chainsaw No Crucible and glitchless speedrun of the main campaign. I believe this to be a very difficult but fun challenge as it required me to really think through how to save as much ammo as possible, only using as much as needed, and also using the blood punch to an insanely high degree. My technique, which I call doom fu, involves using the regenerating upgrade of the blood punch and glory killing in order to continuously kill enemies only with the blood punch, while keeping yourself stocked up on health and armor. What do you guys think? Should Doom Eternal have a no chainsaw category? I'd love to see what the community could come up with in terms of completing this challenge without using the BFG. I have gotten good enough at this point that I can make it to the icon of sin without using the bfg once in the entire campaign, but obviously I haven't recorded a legit run of that yet. But defeating the icon so far REQUIRES using the BFG. Maybe somebody can figure out a way to no chainsaw the Icon without using the BFG.

while it is a cool concept, the idea of a glitchless speedrun in this game doesn't sound very realistic. in order to disallow glitches we need to define them, and with that comes a whole different set of problems. and i feel like the inability and complications regarding the concept of a glitchless speedrun might hurt the spirit you're trying to create for a run like this. this sounds more like a challenge run with a timer than a speedrun from the way you're describing it, but if we make a leaderboard out of this in a game this broken, things might get wild XD and there's no telling if that's a good or bad thing

Hmmmm, well the original concept as I envisioned it was that you'd disallow chainsawing, bfging, and usage of the crucible, but once I realized there was no way to defeat the Icon of Sin without the bfg it became basically can you complete the ultra nightmare run without using the chainsaw at all, and in my case I also didn't use the crucible as I never found it to be necessary whenever I have been playing.

So I guess rather than "glitchless" what I really mean is no level skipping. I want the challenge to come from a player having to fight through every single match, no matter what. This means completing every single slayer gate, and completing every other combat encounter in the full campaign. I accidentally made it through the run and skipped one of the secret encounters on taras nabad, even though I totally could have done it haha facepalm

But essentially the challenge is coming from having to defeat many many arenas using only like the blood punch as your main weapon, since it is rechargeable.

just an example as to what i mean, you can look at ACE(all combat encounters) and see what kind of stuff they are allowed to do when required to do all the tracked combat encounters. almost feels like glitches are inevitable

I think I sort of understand what you mean but if you take a look at my run you'll see what sort of strategies I intend for a category such as this. In it you would see I utilize bunnyhopping, single dashing, yeethooking, and a whole other assortment of combat techniques. What I would disallow are executing ballista boosting maneuvers that would allow you to skip arenas, or using any sort of other major glitch that would allow you to skip past an encounter without any combat. Combat is a must in this proposed challenge category.

You would be allowed to use any technique, glitch, whatever to your hearts content in a fight, but absolutely all combat must be done since this is where all the challenge is coming from. Running out of ammo and not being able to continue the fight would stump many people I think haha. Especially in the later levels when there is even less ammo available.

In any case though I mostly just want to see if anyone else in the community has ever tried this particular challenge before. I know a lot of the major guys have done no bfg no crucible in the past, but I've never seen a full on UN no chainsaw run apart from my own so I'm curious if anyone has ever tried it.

But yeah I definitely agree that this is more of a challenge run rather than a speedrun. I wonder if maybe there is a group out there that would actually want to take this challenge up and put it on a leaderboard or something haha. That'd be pretty cool I think. Playing no chainsaw makes me feel like a friggin samurai when I'm blasting demons away using the blood punch continuously lol.

I can never get enough of it loooool especially when i'm pummeling like marauders or barons just nonstop breaking them down with the punches xD

100% Codexes

A month ago, it was brought to our attention that the full collection of codexes, which is required for the campaign 100% and 100% Natural Masteries categories, is not possible with our current rules. For example, the extra lives tutorial codex cannot be acquired in the Ultra-Nightmare difficulty. T
