Greetings Guardians! We are excited to announce The Final Shape Speedrun Tournament, a cross-community event designed to bring us together for one simple goal - to go as fast as possible. For this event, Speedrun Panel and Lowman have come together to create a multi-day marathon filled with top level play from all corners of the hardcore community.

Once again, we will be joined by our beloved hosts evanf1997 and cbgray, as well as our own community hosts that will rotate throughout the days to give more insight. The dynamic duo have always been a pleasure to work with as well as a blast to have on the casting bench, and we are incredibly excited to have them join us for Destiny 2's premiere experience!

Tournament Info

As stated before, this is a joint event between Speedrun Panel and Lowman. With that in mind, allow us to explain the format for this Tournament!

Prize Pool, Bounties and Charity

For anyone wishing to donate towards the prize pool, allow us to direct you https://www.gofundme.com/f/final-shape-speedrun-tournament We deeply value the community's support for these events and welcome your contributions with gratitude.

On top of this, we are re-introducing Bounties as a way for both runners and non-runners to get in on the action! Bounties are a set of optional tasks, both before and during the tournament, that are open to the public to attempt. All Bounty prizes will be an allocated amount of the prize pool, and we plan on releasing a list of the Bounties further down the line. All information based on bounties will be located in the #bounties channel so stay tuned!

Finally, we will have charity donations available for anyone who wishes to contribute! Similar to the previous Speedrun Panel tournament, there will be goals to hit for both days with charity donations that will extend the event. More information will be released throughout the coming weeks on how you can donate.

Today marks the verification of the 1,000ᵗʰ lost sector speedrun!

When I started tracking lost sector speedruns with my spreadsheets three years ago, I never thought we'd be able to post your records on speedrun.com. It's crazy to see how far we've come. I want to thank all the sector runners for their dedication. We wouldn't be celebrating this milestone without you.

So far, this season has been wild; We've received over 300 new submissions from 35 unique runners. Most sectors have had their all-time records broken. We finally added the Planet% categories, and so many of you participated in the bounty. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I also want to give some praise to H4sh and SheckelBoi for their work regarding the lost sector leaderboards in recent weeks. Just this week alone, we've received over 25 new submissions. These two have verified almost all of these runs within a couple of hours of submission. A far cry from the 21 day window that speedrun.com asks us to abide by.

Once again, thank you to all the runners who have submitted a time to the leaderboards, and I wish you all the best in your future runs!

Greetings Guardians,

I have quite a bit of information to share with everyone, from formalizing new categories, upcoming mod meetings, and GDQ updates. But first, we decided to start using the News section on Speedrun.com (SRC) in conjunction with our Announcements page on our Discord. This will be a smaller version of our announcements where we will pick and choose big updates to provide to the community at large. So if you are wanting all the updates and to be connected with the community more, please join our discord at https://discord.gg/d2speedrun

Formalizing New Categories: Since the introduction of the Misc. page we have seen a few conversations around our process for adding new categories to the site. There are a few steps that need to be taken by the runner/community to show interest as well as go through the proper channels.

  • Create a suggestions post ON DISCORD for the category you wish to be added and any information you want to provide for how you envision this category
  • Have community discussion providing any feedback
  • Runners to show proof of concept (Decent/Good Runs) and willingness to run
  • After we see a fair number of runs (each category would be different depending on the nature of the category for the amount of runs we would be looking for) we add the category

Verifiers: We are still accepting verifier applications in roles if you are interested in becoming a verifier please fill out the google form. I haven't had a mod meeting discussing promotions/demotions yet so you still have time to get in your application. Expect this to be finalized in the next week or two.

Adventures: It is crazy to see how everything comes full circle! Back when I was a verifier, I was pushing for clutter on the site to be moved to a spreadsheet to improve QOL and ease of use for all. Since then we have been able to create a DCV site, this has allowed us to move all Adventures back onto the site and give those runners the recognition they deserve!

GDQ Hotfix: Everyone should come and support @Xemo a active runner within the D2 Speedrun Community as he has been chosen to participate in "GDQ Hotfix" on January 29, 2024 7:00 PM PST but he will likely be running closer to January 29, 2024 9:00 PM PST. For all information check out the link below! https://twitter.com/Xemoficus/status/1750021463212499045

Yearly Recap: It is crazy to look back and see how much we have accomplished in the past year with this community, from...

  • SRC's first major tournament (Raising 6k for charity)
  • Introduction of the DCV Page
  • Introduction of the Misc. Page
  • Path to staff team
  • Discord overhaul and re-organization
  • Moderator Forums
  • Auto Populated Runner Roles based on placement
  • Custom Migration Bot
  • Trial Mod Introduction
  • Townhalls
  • New Voice Channel Changes (More to come)
  • Reduced toxicity as a community
  • Raid Guides
  • Introduction of the bounty system
  • Multitude of rule QOL changes
  • Custom Vanity Link
  • 10,000 community members in this discord

Now these things are only some of what I could think of quickly off the top of my head, but none of it would be possible without the staff team we have been working on perfecting since the time I became a verifier and the community for being as passionate as you are for everything Destiny 2 Speedrunning. So here is to another year of growth!

Leaderboard Restructuring

  • All leaderboards have been moved from full-game leaderboards to individual-level leaderboards.

  • Your speedrun.com profile page will now group runs per sector, making tracking your progress over the seasons easier.

The Long-Requested Planet% Category is on its way

  • The goal of this category is simple: Complete all sectors on a destination as fast as possible.

  • Once the details are hashed out, you'll be able to submit your runs to these categories in the now-empty full-game categories.

Ever since the beginning of the season, There has been an issue with the in-game timer. The in-game timer now starts before the player has finished loading in. This issue appears to worsen on slower hardware.

Until now, The Lost Sector Leaderboard relied on the In-Game Timer to time runs. Given the abovementioned issue, we can no longer continue to rely on the in-game timer. All runs submitted so far have encountered the bug and will be re-timed using RTA.

From now on, all runs submitted to the Lost Sector Leaderboard must be re-timed using RTA. Since we archive the leaderboard every season, Runs from previous seasons won't be re-timed as the in-game timer was consistent back then.

Given that the enemy AI triggers as the level becomes visible, we cannot allow the timer to start on the first input.

RTA timing rules: The timer starts when the sector begins to become visible to the player. The timer ends when the prompt to open the chest completes.

For guidance, please refer to this guide on SRC: https://www.speedrun.com/destiny_2_lost_sectors/guide/rz8hw

Skydock IV Fix

It was fun while it lasted, but unfortunately, the 6.2.0 update has fixed the ability to skip all but one champion in the Skydock IV lost sector. Since we archive the leaderboard with every new season, all previous records will be preserved as per usual.

Rotation Calendar

We do not know in what order each sector will become available as the season has just started, but we are documenting the seasonal rotation. The current rotation calendar can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-crSOJnubqSfjRpQonkbqxctURRWEoU0Q9mtwza8pcA/edit?usp=sharing

Nessus sectors have been added to the rotation!

The anticipated Nessus legendary and master sectors have been added to the rotation during the 4.1.0 update. The Nessus tab will be added to the site when the sectors become available in-game as we do not know which sectors will be available just yet.

Seasonal Board Reset and Archival

As per usual, the leaderboards have been "wiped". Runs from the previous seasons have all been archived and can be found by setting the "season" drop-down to "Season of the Risen" while viewing the sector of your choice.

We do not know in what order each sector will become available just yet as the season has just started, but we are documenting the seasonal rotation. Best of luck to all runners!
