Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 Speedrun Guide

*******Intro to Dragon Ball Z Supersonic Warriors 2*******

Hello everyone, If you watching any of the speedruns and are interested this is a great Dragon Ball Z game to pick up and easy to get into. It has simple controls, and does not require as much controller skill as other games. The best thing I could compare it to is a more simplified version of budokai.

I just want to clarify that this is not a tier list but a guide for speed running the game.

*******Running Supersonic Warriors 2*******

This game is a little bit strange in that you can not delete the game data. This is also a rare game to find, meaning you should probably take the time to unlock assists, because clearing everything from a blank save is not possible for speedrunning. Right not I have not found a stable emulator for this game. Please feel free to submit if you do find one!

*******Suggested Characters for Z Mode and Maximum mode*******

In this order:

Metal Frieza - Very fast normal and heavy attacks, supers are homing from below, above, and side. Has a 15% energy homing ball. Under super can combo into itself over and over again. Personal Best stage is with this character, supers have less startup, and allow you to rush into normal attacks. Lots of potential if you can figure out best positioning and set ups.

Gotenks Super Saiyan 3 - Fastest Normal attacks in the game, Above super is the most damaging in the game if the positioning of the ghost are correct, side super is a rush attack doing huge damage. With the right assists this character is also the best for clearing quickly. Your goal is to always manage your meter so you can quickly super a character to death.

Majin Buu (Evil) - Best heavy attacks in the game, his below super allows you to combo 3/4s vertically up the screen while you heavy kick upwards. You can even use this super to catch the next character switching in. The accuracy of kicking the character into the super can take hard practice but the damage potential is huge. His special beam and supers do a lot of damage, but be careful because the animations might cause you to loose time.

Broly - Very high damage and long range on everything, HIs side super (Eraser Canon) does tremendous damage even on block and the start of the super can hit the opponent, but not bounce them away, making it a sure kill if you have 150% meter and they are trapped in an assist. Brolys above super can infinite the character, because it shoots down and then a stream comes back up, He is difficult to because you need to always think about your meter and his maneuverability is very slow.

Cooler - His supers have startup but they can be used at the same time, for example you can use abover super, and then move underneath the enemy character and use down super. His special beam allows for some setups. Lots of potential with a good assist, supers have slight startup, because they are assist supers you can not use the same one until one of Cooler's Armored Squadron is over.

Semi-Perfect Cell - Strong attack and supers, has a self destruct move that does HUGE damage, if someone figured out how to do this twice in a match, could potentially make every round 10 - 15 seconds. 

Frieza - Similar to metal freeza, except, that rocks come out in stead of energy beams with the above super, damage is also very low, there is potential here but I have not figured out what to do yet.

*******Recommended Assists*******

Nekomajin Z - This is the secret assist, it has a long startup at 4 seconds, with an in-game cutscene, however it appears behind the opponent and shoots a long lasting kamehameha, locking the opponent in place. You can move around when and hit the opponent to build meter or spam super when this connects. The enemy can switch out, energy rush out, or energy barrier to avoid this. If you switch or grab, the assist will not work however. 

Zarbon/Dadoria - Lasts slightly longer then Nekomajin, if you attacks someone into the super, you can get a nice combo going, most likely leading to death. Its random who comes out, Zarbon is much better for slightly farther, Dadoria is better, but you must push the opponent into Dadoria to combo correctly. 2 seconds of startup but no cutscene.

Bardock - Gives you 200% meter. You have to wait about 5 seconds for Bardock to go super saiyan and then you get the meter. no cutscene. 

Majin Dabura - Spears fly vertically toward the opponent, great for locking in place, requires understanding the timing to combo, lasts a very long time. No cutscene and about 2.5 seconds of startup.

Tien/Yamcha - Honestly I can only recommend this assist for Broly or Frieza because it makes landing his up super a sure kill. Tien's tri beam will come from above and  blast several times for nice damage. Sometimes you can get yamcha which means, you wasted time.No cutscene, 1 second start up.

*******Glitches, Tips, and Features*******

At the start of the match you can push your opponent, You can set up for your supers and positioning before the match even begins. On Hard mode the enemy will move around more making this less effective.

Some stages, like Namek, have walls in the corner which will allow you to hit/block stun your opponent. Its best to use these stages to your advantage in the beginning.

2/3 character stages can sometimes not be as bad as you think, some assists or supers can be used just as the starter character feints, and the attack will fix onto the switch enemy. Because there is no true burst in this game, it allows for unblockable set-ups on the 2nd or 3rd characters.

Zmode is completely RNG as to what enemy you get. If you see a character with a 1 star dragon ball above their name, it means they have shenron, Shenron is a very long cut scene, is automatically activated, and fully or nearly fully restores the health of a character. If you get Shenron too many times or too many 3 character stages, it sometimes can explain a difference in time.
