Congrats @dethwing on your 100% run! I look forward to watching it much more closely later to pick up on tips. I only ever did one run of it.

Just one thing I thought I'd mention that's not in the Any% world record: after you go to the shooting grove, a quicker way to get to the overlook is to click on Watling Street on the map, then walk right. You can see this in the Low% world record.

Also, if you'd rather use discord to talk about the game, here's the link to the Speedy Adventures discord: https://discord.gg/kAPTPTR

The biggest thing is that you don't need arcade on to get points for the quarterstaff fight or the nmm game.

You just have to remember to turn it back up before the archery tournament.

That's good to know! For Nine Men's Morris, I was following along in the hintbook, which gives a sure-fire way to beat it every time. That algorithm included putting the difficulty all the way up.

Your way is faster, but at the time, I just wanted to make sure I could beat it.

@dethwing In your latest 100% WR, you mentioned that you put together an improved version of the gemstone puzzle reference. I'd love to see it! Sounds very useful.

Sure, I can do that. You want it on Google doc?

That'd be perfect.

I've figured out the pixie, and why it's very difficult to catch him in 1.1.

The pixie can only be caught by the net when he's running on the ground, not when he's flipping.

In version 1.0, if the pixie is running from right to left, he's just running. If he's moving from the left-hand side of the screen to the right, then he's going to be flipping at least some of the time (with some exceptions: I've seen him run on the lower part of the screen left-to-right without flipping at all).

If you're running it unthrottled, he's flipping much more often. There are still windows where he's on the ground, but it's generally more difficult to catch him going left-to-right.

I played through version 1.1 again. In that version, the pixie does flips going both directions.

By the way, if you're save scumming on that screen, you can make this faster by using shortcuts: F5 to save, F7 to restore.

Finally, if you're catching the pixie on the screen south of the oak, there's a quirk that happens after you catch the pixie. You gain control of the mouse in the brief moment after the pixie leaves the screen. This seems to only happen because you're traveling north. This means that you can right-click and hopefully get to the talk icon in that time, then just hold Enter on the next screen to start the conversation. You can also left-click to make Robin walk, interrupting the auto-walk, and make him walk the opposite direction from the pixie. It's funny, but doesn't make any sort of difference.

Thanks! How do the numbers correspond to the gemstones? Left-to-right, and top-to-bottom?

North Carolina, USA

In the order by the book, which is top down and left right.

I took your walkthrough, changed the gems to numbers, and removed the extra possibilities (to ones I thought were faster, more convenient). Then i alphabetized it.

Finally, when I learned the order was for a reason, I went back, put in the old order, and created extra columns for rounds 2 and 3.

Now, all you need is the row and you have all 9 at your finger tips

I've been trying to run the game in v1.0 (on Orquans ScummVM) and I cannot complete a single run because the game freezes when the two sides of the heart are merged. It seems to happen every run (I have not managed to complete a single run). Is this a known issue? Would be grateful for any help!

I've also tried it with the patch for v1.0 from Sierra's webpages, but it doesn't seem to help... :(

Just found a post from dethwing on another forum that states:

"You just clicked too quickly. Try waiting a second or two before clicking on her. That should avoid the softlock bug."

Thanks! I'll give that a go... :)

I believe it has something to do with waiting a bit specifically on the second green text box that appears after the battle, which begins "Once we reached the edge of the forest..." I can predictably avoid or experience the softlock depending on whether I click rapidly through that text box or not...

Just realised OSE has a video on this in one of the guides! Apologies for not reading that beforehand :)

YouTube user Cowirrie posted this to my YouTube channel:

For speedrunning, is it legitimate to exploit this glitch on the tower at the very end?

  1. Climb to the top of the tower.
  2. Do not go through the window. Instead, talk to the monks at the top to trigger the joke conversation you're aware of.
  3. The scene used for the arcade sequence appears, except you have no control and the knight isn't in the boat. No problem! Before the rock hits you, go into the menu and drop the arcade difficulty to minimum.
  4. Robin climbs down into the boat, and the ending begins.

I would also add that the arcade slider needs to be up before going into the cutscene. If it's all the way down to begin with, this won't work.

Snowy then found the following: "further note regarding optimising the new skip: by pressing the UP (or LEFT) arrow key twice after clicking on options, the cursor moves directly to the Arcade slider

so you can do a quick UP -> UP -> Left Click (to move the arcade slider to the bottom) -> Esc immedately after talking to the monks and clicking on the Options (edited)

In fact it moves the cursor to exactly the bottom of the Aracde slider, so a simple single left click is all that's needed there (no dragging needed!)"
