How to Time Games

Update: I have a new favorite way to time runs! Download and read the instructions of this tool: https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime

It provides accurate millisecond timing for YouTube videos in seconds. Created by @SlushPuppy/Beta tested by me.

Hello, all! Just thought this post was necessary because it will help mods verify your runs faster.

There are a few ways to time your game, but here's the one I like best:

  • Download a video editor like Shotcut
  • Load your video into the editor
  • Use the millisecond counter to step frame-by-frame.
  • Record where your run starts and where your run ends.
  • Do the math
  • Submit the correct time :D

This process only takes about 3 minutes! While using a timer on your phone may be somewhat accurate, Google says: The average reaction time for humans is 0.25 seconds to a visual stimulus. Keep that in mind for future submissions!

are there any free mobile video editors that have that timer option?

I might as well add what I use for each device I play on:

On Samsung S7, I use the native recording app and sometimes DU Recorder to record my games. Each has its perks. For the timer, I use a simple app called floating timer. It can get in the way of your playing, so make sure its in a good spot before you start recording.

On Amazon Kindle, I use SmartPixel to record, upload to Facebook, download, and add a timer in a video editing software called ShotCut. I'm not sure if this specific game is on that device, though.

Please comment about how you record and time your game to help other players.

So im playing on iOS, if you have at least iOS 11 (maybe also 10 idk) then you can directly record it without an app, and if you don't you can just record it on a laptop with BlueStacks or on a Mac with QuickTime Player. Further you need a timer like LiveSplit or the browser version of that, should be easy to do that.
