# Audio Loop

In the Steam version of Cars 2, the game will frequently crash after about 30 to 60 minutes of gameplay. This is known as the "audio loop bug," and it occurs on multi-core processors because the audio engine isn't limited to a single core. This guide will detail a couple of ways to fix it.

## Batch File

A batch file can be created to force the game to use a single processor core with every launch.

1. Make sure you have **"File name extensions"** enabled in Windows Explorer. To do this, open Explorer and click the **View** tab in the toolbar. Then, check the box that says **"File name extensions."**
2. Right-click on **Cars 2** in your Steam library. Go to **Manage > Browse local files** to open the game folder.
3. Inside the folder, right-click and create a new text document.
4. Open the text document and copy the following into it:

start /affinity 1 Game-Cars.exe
```

5. Save and close the text document.
6. Change the document's file extension from **.txt** to **.bat**

The game will now only use a single processor core every time you launch it. Adjust the number used in the "affinity" command accordingly, so that it uses your preferred core. By default, the copied command will set Cars 2 to exclusively use CPU 0.

## Task Manager

Unfortunately, some players have reported that the batch file method doesn't work for them. Setting core affinity is possible to do while the game is running, but with less reliable results.

1. Open Cars 2 and use Alt+Tab to leave the game window.
2. Open Task Manager and go to the Details tab.
3. Right-click on **Game-Cars.exe** and click "Set affinity" in the dropdown menu.
4. Uncheck all boxes **except one** in the affinity window.

- The box you choose to leave unchecked is the CPU core the game will use. It's advised not to use the first or last CPU core in the list, as those are used extensively by other programs and the operating system, and will likely change nothing.

5. Click **Okay.**

You can now close Task Manager and return to the game.

How to use the 180 Spin and the 2-Wheel Drive

Okay, so in Cars 2 you can perform air tricks to be able to gain more energy when you go off of ramps. There's a 360 Front Flip, 360 Back Flip, 360 Barrel Roll, and a 180 spin. Why is it 180? Well you also have the ability to Backwards Drive on the ground to be able to gain energy slowly on straightaways. But that's not exactly all that useful, and we'll get into why later on. But anyway, another thing about 180 Spins is that one trick no matter what will always give you 1/4 of a boost meter. This includes 180 Spins. You can probably see where this is going. You can basically get twice the amount of turbo energy with a 360 Spin that a 360 Front Flip, Back Flip, or Barrel Roll. Now back to Backwards Driving. Why is it useless you may ask? Because it is only useful for straightaways AND it gets energy so slowly. The other option, however, is a little more viable. And that is the Two-Wheel Drive. The Two-Wheel Drive is another straightaway option for gaining turbo energy, but while it can't turn for its own life, it CAN go through certain hologram arrows seen on the courses and gain you additional energy just like drifting on the floor arrows nets you more energy. If you follow this guide 100%, you will more than likely be on your way to speedrunning the game.
