Hello again, It's been just over 1 week since the book was published so I thought I might as well share the archive I've collected of runners listed in GWR: Gamers Edition 2018.
As a disclaimer, I took the original scans and ATTEMPTED to enhance them, this is the first time I've worked on a project like this and I've had to quickly learn quite a bit on the magazine scanning process. There may be noticeable flaws in the scans or snapshots, please understand this situation before commenting on the quality.
With that said, the list is updated with runners mentioned in blurbs and some spelling was corrected. Feel free to let me know if I misspelled anyone's name or a game is mislabeled. Enjoy.
As of today, the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s edition 2018 edition book launched in the US. This year, they’ve partnered with speedrun.com to ensure accurate run information which is a highly welcome change (the speedrun.com logo is even on the back of the book!) With it, I have taken a number of hours acquiring scans and writing down names to create a searchable list of runners, games and page number mentioned. I'll be holding off on posting the scans for 1 week to not upset the publishers or twingalaxies sales of their product or invite litigation over potentially illegal distribution. I'll be making a list of runners mentioned available and page numbers in case people want to buy the book and see for themselves. After the week I'll be making my scans available on Imgur and posting it on speedrun.com and reddit for all to see. The following glitch is possible in some versions of this game.
Due to this glitch it's possible to get very fast times.
The following thread if for loading times calculated to be different between riders heroes story run on various versions. Timing for these was done when you hit start game or next track and ended when the blue mission objective disappeared.
Hello, about 2 weeks ago Guinness world records released their 2017 version of their gamer's edition book. In this edition there were various mentions of Games Done Quick, speedrun.com and Speed Demos Archive as well as twin galaxy records. I've recorded nearly every mention of speedrunning in the form of screenshots and scans of pages. If this is not acceptable by the staff of SDA, speedrun.com or Guinness please let me know and I'll remove it or feel free to remove this on your own. Had this happen to me in the form of a glitch at first. Following this I made a video with documentation on how this could potentially be used.
Some brief documentation on the TAS used 2-3 clip. Credits to callumbal for his own documentation (feel free to elaborate further here) and jesusftb for first pulling off the glitch. I may add images to this later on.
SML Out of Bounds glitch: 2-3 skip
What it is: It's a glitch that allows you to wrap around the screen in Super Mario Land. In 2-3 a very specific setup is needed to get past the barrier for the stage exit to save around 3 seconds.
3rd pillar, last block on the end above the 1 unit gap.
Set yourself up so that you're in line with or slightly below the block
At the middle gap of the sub press down+left for a small window and shoot the block in front of you after you're wrapped around.
When the clock goes to 268 alternate between down and left quickly. You should then hit the goal.
What can go wrong:
Incomplete wrap: you don't wrap around the screen fully before the block is broken, a second timeloss, failed trick.
Shot wrap: Shot gets screenwrapped, failed trick.
Too early, hold left for too long: hit the seahorse, lose mushroom, failed trick.
Different location: can appear above the breakable blocks and goal switch, slight time loss.
Too late: can appear behind goal, failed trick, minutes of timeloss.
Nonexistent coins can be collected offscreen.

stars produced show an advance in RNG seed visually to the player, are set when the game is started.

Actions that create stars: landing from a jump, colliding with a wall, colliding with an enemy causing it to explode.

inhaling creates high star rng skip rate, unknown if this is tied to framerate

Rate stays the same going through doors and changing levels, randomly re-rolled on dying, set to default on game start, game over screen, reset done in game.
Just want to mention a brief trick previously known to optimize time and save around 4 seconds through a run. If you exhale with a puff or star automatically when enter a door you'll take an extra few miliseconds to enter. If you exhale manually then enter you don't lose this time. Remember to breathe!
I made a video detailing a small trick in the time darkness sky engine that could end up saving 10 minutes or more over the whole run. Putting it here to document its existance.
