What mansion type are you playing on? Hidden Mansion has the fastest suck up rate of 10hp per pump for portrait ghosts, which you need to complete a playthrough of normal mansion first and save over the file at the end of the game to get. Hidden Mansion will be a selection on that file after you save over it. Other than that I'd need more specifics on what you're struggling with.

For boos, the strat R-Pumping is probably what you're looking for and should be fairly easy to lookup.

I couldn't help but notice that when I clicked the "View Rules" for either category of the game that there was nothing there.

While I think it's easy for one to assume what makes an Any% run, it would be nice for both categories to have some official rules to go by. This would especially be helpful for anyone who wanted to run 100% in the future (I plan to eventually).
