From reading what the Github information has to offer, I'm psyched to try this new version out. :)
Man too broken >.< Reuploaded a seemingly working version as 5.1.
Where is the timer shown for 8-4 (or is it even at all)? When completing levels like 1-1 or 1-2 the time was shown to me during level transition. However after loading 8-4 from the menu and completing it I see the "Uuugh no Idea what to write here" screen but can't find the level time. Could also be useful for 8-4IL category to see it directly
Additionally to not being able to see the time after the level, it appears to not even get saved. When exiting to title and then selecting records, I'm able to see the times of other levels I completed (so it's not an general error with persistant save), but not the 8-4 time.
It has been fixed but not released. The time for the 8-4s (and D-4) are rendered in game when you touch the Axe. Expect a new release in the coming days, have some more things I want to fix first though.
Pushed version 5.2 live.

Added frame advance. Use A on second controller to advance a frame (like use your foot or something I guess :)). Use Start on second controller to exit frame advance. You'll softlock if you enter frame advance without a second controller so be careful.

Fixed the aforementioned bug where both 8-4s and D-4 won't track your time (since it has no intermediate screen after it). Silly oversight on my end. Now displayed as you grab the Axe.
-
If you Load a savestate, the real-time is no longer tracked for that level. There were several scenarios where you could, using save states, get times that were completely impossible to beat which kinda ruined the concept.

Uhm... added another slowmotion tier, there are now three (and then the frame advance).

Sorry for the shotgun releases. I realize it is probably a bit annoying to have to re-apply the IPS every other day, but oh well, time is limited and it is more fun to code that it is to test so here we are ;)

Woah, nice!
One thing I've wished for for a little now is for the B button to not be able to select anything in the pause menu. I often run into scenarios where I want to be holding right+B out of the pause menu, but doing so causes me to inadvertently change my powerup state, or spam "Load State" a bunch of times, or things of that nature. Any chance you could make this happen? <3
@periwinkle scheduled for 5.3 https://github.com/pellsson/smb/issues/11 (everyone is welcome to add features/issues to the issue tracker themselves) :)
