These won't be set up for a little while, as we still need to keep on top of the current Main Game Board verification queue, but let's talk about it now.
Currently, the categories that are seemingly a good fit for the Extension page include: Karambit Only, No Duke, and "100%".
I'd like to hear thoughts on this. I already know there was a lot of interest in being able to run with the Karambit on Casual, following Clairebere's guide to achieve what we'll say is "100%", and not using the Duke.
Considering how many categories there already are, and how many runs are still awaiting verification, we won't be doing this anytime soon. This is simply to encourage people to run the game how they would like, without feeling like you're not a part of the community or somethin. Your run is valid, even if it doesn't have a board to submit to. In time, we can work on making these different ways of running the game available for submission.
Share your thoughts, and we'll jot em' down.
No Duke would be dope! Vos/Hardcore are routed in Merchantless Forum! A big thing would be whether or not you allow people to sell weapons/make food dishes? You can't discard weapons in RE8, so whatever weapons you pick up you're stuck with. I understand people just wanting to make it so you can't buy anything to make things a bit easier, which is similar to how the in-game challenge works. (The challenge is for not spending more than 10,000 lei). However, I really like that additional challenge to the run(along with no food items) cuz it makes routing more fun and explorable "imo"(I skipped the 1st shotty in all my runs to get the tac for example on Merchantless Hardcore and that seemed faster), some people might even try skipping sniper or shotty altogether for magnum, GL, etc. and it just makes it feel like a true No Duke/Merchantless Run. I'm extremely happy and excited to see this category being made as well as 100%!
I would really like a couple of meme categories like Hooligan % (fastest to bust all the breakable castle windows).
Will the categories available remain casual, hardcore and VoS?
Only thing not mentioned here is some variation of HG only
Like kniferun said no handgun only? I realize there shouldn't be a ton of categories but there's been a lot of talk about it and I I've just been trying to clean my route up before posting any videos, but I've been running it.
@avukamu it is, and yes it can be done as a speedrun too. (why wouldnt it be considered as such) As for No Duke runs, i sometimes read, ppl would like to be allowed to sell weapons. (at VoS) That should not be allowed honestly. Cause in this case it wouldnt be a no duke anymore, besides, it is not even needed to sell anything. Just map out a propper route and u'll fine. I made many runs by now and never bought or sell anything to duke, or made food.
I think a handgun only would be cool. But maybe only allow it to be like the lemi or the m1911. You could even do a NG+ for hardcore or VoS with handgun only. But having the Stake or any of those would be too OP so itd have to be the 2 least powerful guns. I think itd be fun though. I would wanna run VoS NG+ with that personally.
I definitely think a handgun only run would be nice. I have messed with it and it is a fun run. We would just have to know if the more powerful handguns are allowed. Maybe a ng+ karambit only where you start off a finished game with the karambit in hand at the beginning. Not sure how the other weapons picked up during a normal run would work. that would be an interesting discussion.
For HG only all non Ng+ handguns should be allowed. So lemi, 1911, v61 (though I'm not sure it's worth the investment to upgrade)
No magnum period imo, it doesn't fire handgun bullets so it's not a handgun.
Since the HG subject is moved here ill put a vote down to allow the magnum if and when the HG only category is being loked into ofc. I dont see the type of bullets warrant it not being called a handgun so that is why im for it.
If the type of bullets doesnt count for that, than the handcannon pz (shots sniper) can also be allowed. And if we start with that, we can also use the rocketpistol (looks like a handgun too) following this logic. For a category that is called Handgun Only, the weapons used shot use Handgun Bullets too (pure logic). I dont even get why ppl want such weapons anyways. Do u think its to hard without them? What exactly is ur intention of allowing such weapons in a category that's definition is in the name?
A handgun only category will not allow the magnum. Handguns in the games will use "Handgun Ammo" https://residentevil.fandom.com/wiki/Handgun_Ammo_(Village) Handgun only is supposed to be a challenge run and there is a traditional interpretation of what that means in Resident Evil games much as "knife only" is meant to be Resident Evil's version of "low%", hence the requirement of the base knife. The guns were even just called "handgun" for a long time in RE games.
Edit: I know the magnums in the game are what we would class IRL as "handguns", but as I said above, it goes against the spirit of the category.
The reason why i dont see an issue for allowing the magnum is cus this is found in game and can be routed in as in you do not need to have finished said game on a certain difficulty or other pre requisites.
As for your use of "pure logic" the magnum is by definition a handgun so shouldnt be a surprise that there are people that see no harm in allowing it me including.
Being too hard? No i just see a weapon that can be of help to potentially make a specific run faster since its a speedrun. This is btw me my having put in my input to say yes to the magnum. so afterwards the mods can decide wether they will allow it or not when the time comes.

The biggest issue with handgun only on HC and VoS is the allowance of the laser in Chris' section. There isnt enough handgun ammo.
Im for allowing the laser as Chris' section feels like a DLC any ways.
Casual can be done no duke. Of course the drops from miranda are huge. HC and VoS need duke to have the ammo needed. If it was possible to give casual and HC/VoS 2 different rules like knife only would be nice.
Casual really doesnt need duke or magnum and can still be relatively fast and interesting. I believe PC runs will be faster no duke on casual any ways.

No duke can be done on all difficulties if all guns are an option.
So people keep bringing up VoS and HC for HG only, mainly Chris section. I'm okay with compromising on the laser as far as non HG damage done, but the magnum is out of the question imo. HG only should be only guns that use HG bullets, period.
If it's actually impossible with just handgun, and not just hard, then yea, I'm also okay allowing the laser in those instances.
If youre using mag then youre basically doing NG+ main category cause thats mainly what is used the entire time haha. That and rocket pistol. The 3 max that should be allowed should be Lemi, V61, and the M1911... If theres issues with Chris for NG the laser could be used for Urias if theres not enough ammo maybe as said above? ^^ I personally dont know cause I havent tried a handgun only run yet myself for NG but for NG+ of course youd have infinite ammo so it wouldnt be an issue if NG+ can be an option. I really wanna run VoS but honestly dont wanna do NG for it so I think id like a ng+ option like hand gun only so we can have the at least 3 of the handguns maxed out and some extra heals would be fun. Cause NG VoS is just too much of a headache for me lmao. As I was saying before even if it was just Lemi and/or M1911 id even be cool with that
