Hi! As many of you probably know, Timer Glitch is a continual problem that's stopping any new runs being verified. Rough proposal I've made to other mods (and would now like to pitch here) is that we make a temporary Version category that houses all timer-glitched runs that will eventually be moved to "Old Versions" once the glitch is fixed. This lets us still work through the 80 or so runs and have a semblance of a leaderboard without completely screwing up the standard leaderboard times. If the glitch is never patched, they can be moved to Current Version once that part is made clear, but for now this is the best compromise I can think of.
Put your thoughts in here and we'll figure something out in around 24 hours' time.
Why would a timer glitch prevent runs from being validated? I can think of atleast 5 different solutions to this off the top of my head.
@Ironlongswords currently the issue isn't that they're not valid runs, it's that if this glitch is patched in a few weeks then all the work people will have put in will be mostly irrelevant. hence me asking if people are Okay with that or if we should do a proper solution like retiming things
for what it's worth, a major consideration is shifting the board to use RTA time which i've had reservations about but seems like it's the main remaining option if we don't want to trust the game timer
Okay, This is just my understanding but this is what I think would be the best course of action: Let all runs be verified (which are legit but affected by the timer glitch) only be on any%. The main appeal of the any% category is completing it as fast as possible with everything at disposal. The glitched timer is something that can't be fully fixed until 4.0 (hopefully) and personally, I think it would be a bad decision to not accept runs until then.
sure, but then you can't run glitchless at all. the main appeal of glitchless is that you are Choosing to not use ingame glitches as a sort of challenge - timer glitch isn't something a player can avoid.
honestly it should just be a timer glitch category, most of these solutions are too complicated, but shouldnt there be two timer glitch categories then? because there was two timer glitches
@Norfolk the old timer glitch is impossible to achieve and had maybe 5 runs? i'm content letting that one disappear. we're running a poll on discord right now that's getting community consensus for the next few days and (unless that decision is split decently evenly) will follow the results. speedrun mods are curators, not dictators
It'll probably be mostly quiet, but centralised info is always neat, and the official server's #speedrun-chat gets off-topic real fast, so, uh. Now you have more immediate access to your fellow players and mods.
