[Any%] Guide for New Speedrunners

*The main focus here is on Any%, but everything should still apply (mostly). This is not really a how to guide on how to run the game in itself but rather all the information that is helpful to get a grasp on the game. Down below is everything useful that I know off currently and that I used to get to where I am now.*

1. **The Basics**
Sit down and learn the basics and fundamentals about the game. Here we talk about the different movement options as well as the different attack moves.

A must watch to understand the universal as well as Special Moves for Demon God Zenki. If you don't watch Chiaki's tutorial you will not know how to do Demon God Zenki's Special Moves that you need to progress through the game. This is because, well, the game quite frankly does not tell you anything other than this hidden tutorial.

2. **Expanding Your Knowledge**
You need to get more information to expand your knowledge. Here you can find anything (albeit basic) information about the game. Enemies, bosses, traps, items, you name it.

This is the main page for the wikia of the game. Here you will find anything ranging from the enemies and bosses, traps, items, and controls.

Even thought it is very general information and might not be the most important things to know it is still never bad with too much information and knowledge. The wikia isn't fully complete in some areas and does not include everything but still contains a big part of cool stuff. Go ahead and give a read.

This page contains walkthrough on the levels of the game (some have yet to be written and some are short and incomplete). There is a tutorial that covers the in-games tutorial but in text and picture format, as I've mentioned before a must read for beginners. You can even find a bit about the elements of the enemies and their weakness, nothing extensive but pretty interesting.

This is just very basic stuff like compiled information from the wikia about the Special Moves as well as Items and other stuff so you don't need to search the wikia to find it. Probably kind of worthless but can be useful if you forget how to do a move or even what an item does.

3. **Study, Notes, Learn and Practice**
This is where you watch videos, take notes and practice, practice and practice some more before you do a first full speedrun.

This is the video, the to-go-to if you want to develop new and optimized strats to get that PB down. As always it's a TAS and everything might not be RTA viable but if you want to optimize a level, or just take a few things and put into your run then go ahead and watch and take notes.You will need to do things a lot differently because you are still a human being. But still a good video to study to understand what is possible.

If you want actually possible strats give my world record video a watch. I've not used every tactic from the TAS, much is from trial and error and what I can myself pull off without being to risky. Many of the stuff I do is not optimal/optimized and very often do I take safety first. If you want to know anything about anything in my run, just ask and I'll gladly help.

My playlist of all all my personal fastest Individual Levels. Many are not optimal at all but I can't be bothered grinding hours for just a little bit faster time. Certain levels might prove to be too risky for full runs and bosses might be a bit RNG but see and give them a try. 

**2-1 Early Giant Scroll (Max Rudra Charges)**

In the level 2-1 you can very early on in the game find a secret that upon destroying a tomb you will get max Rudra charges! I found out about it afterwards I got my world record but it should help improve with the optimization or at the very least consistency of the run.

How to access Level Select & How to Restart a Level

1. **Inputting the code**

When in the Title Screen, nagivate and go into the Config Menu. Now once in the Config Menu go to Music and play the following songs in the exact order: 009, 003, 006, 009. After you've played them in order, exit the Config Menu to get back to the Title Screen. Now start the game and when possible, pause the game and you can use two possible button combinations: 

1. Press the buttons L+R+X and you will now be warped into the Level Select area.
2. Press the buttons L+R+A and now the level that you are on will be restarted with full health.

2. **In-depth Information**

In the Level Select area there will be a bunch of boxes in the air. These boxes all have numbers that corrensponds to their levels. The boxes which contains the letter "B" corrensponds to the bosses. To get into a level simply jump into any of the boxes and you will be immediately warped into said level.

If you enter a level which you normally would be in Demon God Form but does not have the "Vajura On Ark" cutscene happening before it, you will have only half your health. This is because Demon God Form retains Chibi Zenki's health of 64hp as opposed to Demon God Form Zenki's 128hp.

However every level that has Chiaki performing the transformation cutscene, when Chibi Zenki turns into his Demon God Form (also known as "Vajura On Ark" cutscene) will have him at full health just as you normally would.

If you now want to return to the level select during any time in a level, just pause the game and like before press the buttons L+R+X. You will now be warped back to the Level Select and regardless if you were in Chibi or Demon God form, you will always be Chibi form in the Level Select.

If you want to instead restart the level and begin from the start with full health, just pause the game and press the buttons L+R+A like mentioned before.

Jumping inbetween two boxes in the hidden level select will cause Zenki to get warped to the level indicated by the box on the right side. So, if he jumped inbetween Stage 1-1's and Stage 1-2's boxes, he would end up being warped to Stage 1-2.

How to start NG+ (Hard Mode)

0. **Introduction**

Normally you would access NG+ (Hard Mode) by playing through the game and defeat the final boss (Evil Sorcerer Shijura) for the first time, the credits will scroll and the game will start over from Stage 1-1. However with this method you can do it easy with a simple code input.

1. **Inputting the code**

When in the Title Screen, nagivate and go into the Config Menu. Now once in the Config Menu go to Music and play the following songs in the exact order: 009, 005, 001, 009. After you've played them in order you will notice the sudden change to blue in your selection color. This means you inputted the correct code order. Now exit the Config Menu to get back to the Title Screen. Now start the game there you go. 

You will see if you did it correct if the color turns to blue in menu and the color of levels being white/green instead of orang/yellow like normally would be.

2. **In-depth Information**

While the general layout of the stages is the same in NG+, it features slightly different placements of platforms and enemies and will be indicated by the text in the hud showing the stage, the player is currently on, being white/green instead of orange/yellow.

The NG+ amps also up the difficulty by introducing some enemy types earlier than usual and decreasing the drop rates for items like the Hyouinomi (which now has a higher chance of being hostile instead of a health refill) and lives (the Zenki masks).

Despite this, the difficulty of the mini-bosses and bosses stays the same, thus don't expect much change in difficutly there.

After beating the NG+ (Hard Mode), the credits will scroll once again and the player will be returned to Battle Raiden's title screen. 

If done through a normal playthrough the player will keep their score, lives and Rudra Protection Scrolls from their previous playthrough. You can easily see if they've done it normally or by the code if you see them with a big score or with 0 score indicating a code input.
