"Running on a Wii or Wii U with no save data space available is BANNED, as this requires filling up your Wii's internal memory entirely." I'm unsure as to what this specifically means (I don't want to upload a good run and have it invalidated due to my misunderstanding). Is it referring to having the memory slots inside the HTTYD game all empty, or is filming yourself overwriting a memory slot for the run okay? Or, does it refer to not filling all "blocks" of internal data space on the Wii?
In my case, I have all four slots filled with other play-throughs and my Wii internal data is pretty free. I initially thought it'd be okay to film the process of rewriting a memory slot and then playing the speedrun on that slot, but when I read the aforementioned rule I became hesitant.
I wrote these rules years ago, I apologize for the confusion. This is referring to the internal memory of your wii or wii u, which have a number of blocks that you can fill before you cannot save a game. In some games, if you don't have any space to save, you can skip saving entirely, which saves a lot of time compared to runs that do not have their data filled.
This was not referring to the in-game save files, and I had in mind for many games that I modded that, if the game permitted through not auto-saving, (or in the case of this game, having save files in-game), that things like abusing full-save files should be allowed.
I should have written these rules for more clarity, cause I could totally see that being confusing. The reason for the aforementioned rules was specifically made so that people do not have to make a setup of filling the internal memory to get an optimal run. Doing so takes a lot of time, and only certain games like Super Smash Bros Brawl make it easy to fill up your internal Wii/Wii U memory.
Regardless of all this written above, I left the site a bit ago only to return recently, so I am not a mod, but I am the one who wrote those rules and that was what was intended by them. If the new mods feel differently than what I have mentioned, then I am sure they could address this, but I just felt like giving that input.
I am currently the only mod on this forum at the moment. As of now I fully intend to follow the rules previously set by samleaptrop. I also agree with the rule as it would be annoying to set up the speedrun if skipping the saving due to full storage was a viable strategy.
I'm not quite sure I get what sam means by "abusing full-save files", though. Either way, it seems that it would be fine to already have save slots for the game as long as the run was made with a new save. Thank you for your input, sam!
