We (Me, S2000 and Konyac) are looking into something we've been curious about but never knew how to understand. The In-Game timer seems to misreport the true time it takes to run a lap, and the discrepancy from lap-to-lap changes. This is a pretty annoying finding!
At the current moment, we are looking into what variables could be involved in making this happen. Initially we were thinking high lap counts, but this may only be part of the the whole story or potentially not even relevant to the matter at all!
Because of this, we will likely have to begin frame-counting Fast Lap ILs and reporting real-time. I pray that this wont need to happen to Full game and 5-lap runs.
But its not all downsides. It is cool to find things like this. It's a neat side-effect of the spirit of speedrunning! So I plan to keep IGT and Real-time around because I figure some may like to aim for a true purist fast lap (even though the game wont properly let you know when you've broken a real-time record), and others may like to see how low they can make the IGT (something like a glitched run, I suppose?)!
Thanks ATVOF1 runners, and if you have info about this, or just would like to see the conversation and experimentation unfold. Join the WSMX Discord and hang out!
