Hi everyone,

I found a way to automate splits using an image correlation tool called Auto Split (GitHub link : https://github.com/Toufool/AutoSplit?tab=readme-ov-file#tutorial ) and I was wondering if some of you are interested.

It's a little bit of a hassle to setup and that's why I was thinking about making a tutorial explaining how to do it. But I wanted to have your opinion to see if it will really be useful.

Also, if somebody knows a little bit about how to setup auto splitters by looking through the game’s variable, as it would likely be more precise and less convoluted.

I played around a bit with the auto splitter for aom EE. It was far from perfect, but was nice for some levels. I plan to develop one soon-ish for retold.

It can be a bit tricky because it can technically be more accurate because you have access to the milliseconds of the timer, so it can be off by a second or so because of rounding issues and how we have to time it based on the visible timer. Anyway, I’ll try to get to this sooner rather than later and then everyone can just access it directly from LiveSplit :)

I see, thanks a lot for answering. Basically, Image correlation is good to detect a the end of a level (because of the obvious ending screen), but the main drawback is that it is language dependent so it’s basically impossible to create one version for everyone. Moreover, I am really not sure how precise it is for detecting the start of a level because I base it on the apparition of the HUD which does not always match when the player gets to command the units (but it’s pretty close).

By the way, I have not witnessed discrepancy between the IGT and the « Real time » from the little I have played around, so there is a good chance we won’t run into the timing problems we had on EE/Retail (I hope).

By the way, maybe you can look if the Age of empires 3 guys have something in store because I've heard it runs on the same engine.

Yeah IGT vs RTA difference tends to be a second or two and that's because of stuff where the timer is visible for like 5 frames at the start before progressing. Super minor framecounting stuff lol.

I found how to integrate AutoSplit to LiveSplit which simplifies the use a lot, though the setup is still a bit long. I have almost finished the step-by-step guide to set it up.
