When choosing to separate similar speedrun categories with slight variations, the two options are variables and subcategories. I feel variables are more suited to an extremely tiny difference in the run, while subcategories are more suited to a category that remains in the same vein as others, but differs substantially in its content.

One problem I have with variables is how their menus are universally shown across a game page. Even if there is a variable that only applies to a single category, the dropdown menu is still visible when other category tabs are selected. I think there should be an option to restrict a filter variable to only show up when certain category tabs are selected.

One of the benefits of variables is that speedruns can be filtered by a single variable or by showing speedruns of all variables integrated together. Arguably, subcategories are a more logical and aesthetically-pleasing option to separate speedrun categories, since they are shown up front on visible tabs and do not require navigating an unwieldy "filter" menu. One reason I believe subcategories are used less often, despite these factors, is that subcategories cannot be compared together. A change I request is an optional "All" tab that can be chosen to be shown along with the subcategories, that would put the times of all the subcategories together for comparison. An even better option would be the ability to select certain subcategories, not necessarily all of them, and then integrate those together for comparison, similar to selecting online shopping items and comparing their prices.

Has anyone else encountered the problem where your memory card always corrupts a Pikmin save file? I have an official Nintendo white 1019 memory card, and it works fine for every game I've tried except Pikmin. Whenever I open the game, it "fixes" the corrupt save data, leaving me with two 0-day files and a 1-day file. If I erase any of the files, it is replaced with a 47-day file. All of them start you on a new day, but you are unable to save. This repeats every time I load the game. I want to start speedrunning Pikmin, but I'd like to have save files on which to practice certain days.

I am perfectly fine with the setup for Boolossus 1-cycle where you hit almost all the boos with the first ice ball. Once I do that, I ice and suck up the remaining boos. However, for whatever reason, the last boo always gives me trouble. I've heard that when the boo cackles, you should back up and switch to ice, but everytime I do this, the boo charges straight into me and damages me. What am I doing wrong on it?
