I want to download the full contents (current runs and obsolete runs) of a category in a full readable spreadsheet. I see we can do this for WR but ideally, we need this for just normal runs.

Just a quick post on the new NG+ with shenmue 1 save stuff

Odyssic2 years ago
  1. Buy the golden qr map, as you're walking past it anyway
  2. Map glitch reference (7 steps if you do it the same way as the video)
  3. Block the kid before he goes up the stairs to turn him around, doing this will save 15 seconds
  4. Buy the scarlet hills map

Hey all

Found by psyouloveme, you can skip the dialogue and cutscene much faster by holding a button on your controller (anything but cancel) and holding the "cancel" key on your keyboard (this is R for me)

The game swaps inputs really fast so it's almost like turbo speeds.

Here is a video:

Hey all, I made this rule change a while ago but I didn't announce it so I don't want anyone to get caught out.

"If your time is 2:10 or less, you MUST show the "Time to Complete Story" in the stat menu."

bulbipop found a way to keep the menu open and still being able to play the game. Here are the original findings

With this, it was soon found by bulbipop that you can get the Phoenix Mirror right from the start of the game.

After this was posted, I decided to go through the game and use it wherever I could good a benefit. You can read about my findings here. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1buAwVit_3APTeJKCKWvldvkXPn3AXWpM8d12trVf1yk/edit?usp=sharing

Upon finding these, I have record each trick and these can be found here. First 2 hours of the run

Here is a detailed tutorial on every time the trick is used during the run.

Post any questions below.

Hey all, just a quick post on the timing of any%.

Timing starts the frame "Play timed" is pressed on "In the Beginning". The frame after "Play timed" is pressed will look like this. https://i.imgur.com/veytah5.png

Timing ends the frame the score and timer disappears on "The Megaopolis" level. It will look like this. https://i.imgur.com/QFKAMFu.png

Just in case anyone was wondering what references I'm using for when I retime runs.

Some rule changes will happening and times will be updated over the weekend.

Going forward, CW will be using RTA on the categories any% NSG and 100%. PSP and PSP emulator will be a separate category as a result.

One issue with this however speedrun.com itself. I want to keep IGT for normal any%, I can't though because this website only lets you have one overall default timing method for a game. As a result of this and seeing as any% (most ran category) isn't affected by new glitches and just bad timing practices in general, we will still keep the main timing method as IGT. What this means for any% NSG and 100% is you submit your RTA time in the IGT field. I also just want to write I don't like this, I wish I could just put any% NSG and 100% on RTA. You can always request features here but I don't know if it would be implemented: https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/forum

I will list the rules:

any%: Same as always. IGT calculated same as always: https://www.speedrun.com/gtacw/thread/aviyb You can always show the stat "game completed in" Don't abuse IGT in anyway. For example, watching cutscenes or staying in the safehouse or causing it to freeze. If your run is 2:1x minutes IGT, I expect the run length to be around 3:1x real time.

any% NSG RTA is main timing, starting from new game and ends when the game time (In game clock) disappears after killing Kenny. When submitting your time, put the RTA in the IGT field and leave the RTA field blank. You can write your IGT time if you wish in the description. PSP and PSP emulator are separate categories.

100% RTA is main timing, starting from new game and ends when the game displays "Congratulations, you achieved 100%!" When submitting your time, put the RTA in the IGT field and leave the RTA field blank. You can write your IGT time if you wish in the description. PSP and PSP emulator are separate categories.

USJ (VIEW POST BELOW) I'm fine with keeping that IGT, it can be calculated same as any% so runs shouldn't be different platform to platform. If there is any reason to make this also RTA, let me know in this thread.

Going forward, 100% will be timed with RTA.

There is a problem with this however, src only allows 1 overall default timer you can use for every category. Therefore, you must put your RTA time in the IGT field when you submit the time. If you wish to include your IGT, write it in the description for the run.

I don't like it has to be done this way but tell src to fix it https://www.speedrun.com/help

Reason for rule change, a new trick has been found which makes using IGT for 100% pointless. https://www.speedrun.com/post/m5xh1

Runs that have used IGT before will be changed to RTA with the IGT put in the description of the run.

Thanks to 100% being added, I was grinding out a real route for the portal level and discovered it can be beat really fast. Faster than the current IL WR in sugar level.

Questions: I'm awful at the Sugar level, how much lower can it go? Will it ever be lower than the portal secret level? Can the portal level be also lower?

Here are both IL WRs

New glitch in shenmue allows you to open up the sub menu for quitting (also saving but get into that later) and keep playing. Why this is useful is you can skip triggers (cutscene, blockers and events). Where this is useful in the speedrun is getting on the bus when you normally can't and skipping 2 cutscenes.

Here is how to do the glitch:

As I point out in this video, there is 2 ways of doing this glitch. Bedroom and anywhere you want setup Bedroom setup: Biggest downside is you can only do this at night. The any% speedrun doesn't go to bed until the 3rd day meaning you won't be able to do the glitches. Anywhere you want setup (can't think of a better name): Being able to do this anywhere you want is such a big upside, it outweights the downside. Which is this method is way more easier to crash compared to bedroom setup.

For the second method, there is doubt that it's possible on console, I can't get it working with a controller on PC so I have to use keyboard and mouse.

Here is example of the glitch being used in a run:

Time stamp for getting on the bus: 7:57 video timer/7:48 livesplit timer Time stamp for skipping the Goro cutscene: 21:52 video timer/21:43 livesplit timer

Time save total: 1 minute 25 seconds

Guizhang cutscene skip:

Time save total: 1 minute 33 seconds, being able to make it to the bus stop 30 in game minutes sooner

There is another glitch like this but using the save sub menu. However this has only been confirmed on the unpatched PS4 version. This can be viewed here:

Thanks to AKheon for finding this

Note, just counting the ILs used in any% we can gauge around about what kind of time is possible for RTA.

Current WR RTA: 21:10 Current WR IL times total: 18:47 Sum of best IL: 18:07

Since I got back into this, I've being banging my head trying to find a value to help us with load times. I've just found something that might help. All it needs is some testing.

How to use:

In livesplit, you can add in your layout (edit layout, click +), "scriptable auto splitter" Go in "layout settings" once this is added and click the "scriptable auto splitter" tab, click browse and point it to file https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SVwAd6p-p8JnxmcIvuZMjvyGYwIQOetF/view?usp=sharing You may need to restart the game or livesplit if it doesn't work. (You can see it working by changing "compare against...Game Time", also you can add a new timer and use that for just game time)

How it works:

My thoughts: it seems really good on some levels (starting when you actually gain movement even if loading screen is still up) but on others it doesn't act the same way. This could be a game that will never get an accurate load remover because of this.

EDIT: Just making it clear, I don't think I would outright swap RTA for IGT. I just like having load removers.

EDIT 2: It's more of a gameplay timer with it not working in the menu, having done a full run, it appears the only level that it is isn't consistent on is the first level. Left is RTA, right is gameplay time. looks about right to me tbh. https://i.imgur.com/T4qYzO2.png

Hey

I've added ILs for each level, I'll explain the timing and rules here:

Each level starts with a set timer, when the finish the level the timer stops.

Simply take away the time you ended on with the start time of the level and use that as your time. Don't submit what you got with livesplit or if you counted the frames. It's more consistent to use this method than those.

Video required and must only show the level.

EDIT: I forgot you can do timer levels which are basically the same but it shows you the time you got after you finished the level.

Example run: https://www.speedrun.com/tweotw/run/y43jojkz

Dunno if this is known but it appears to me that sometimes even if you take the same route, you can be locked out on continuing still. This could be a glitch and will only happen one time.

44 (billion) is needed to be able to pick up the slightly bigger blocks but you can see I wasn't able to pick them up until around 63 (billion)

THIS IS INFORMATION REGRADING THE RE-RELEASE

I'm going to go in order for the run, but to start things. You have the choice of running English or Japanese, English as far as we understand is the fastest version right now.

Make sure to check the post on downgrading. (SEE: https://www.speedrun.com/shenmue2/thread/u22hg )

Stolen bag new route for HD version Doesn't need to be done on the original version but must be done on the re-release.

Route back to Man Mo after Delin skip top left = green > south > wise > man mo 1st top right = green > golden > lucky > man mo 4th bottom left = green > white > lucky > man mo 3rd bottom right = green > white > south > wise > man mo 2nd

Loading times are better on the re-release so only follow this if you run re-release, original version, keep with the old route.

Start of library service to collect antiques

After talking to the guy at collect antiques, 180 turn, open menu and go back to the inventory page. These are re-release only timesaves.

Fast cups cutscene at dou jiang Enter left door, hold left, triggers cutscene instantly. Can be done on original and re-release.

Finding Ren after giving him $500 (bottom left is old route, top right is new route) Can be done on original and re-release.

1BF consistent Can be done on original and re-release.

floor 5 of the yellow head building Can be done on original and re-release.

Firewood Can be done on original and re-release.

Skipping second herb cutscene Re-release only.

This guide is a good starting point to learning how to downgrade but I don't want any confusion of which version is the right one to download so once you get to step 7 of this guide.

"download_depot 758330 758332 8248377838039229454" is the version that is currently the fastest.

Once this is downloaded, check back with the guide and follow the last stages of it to make sure it doesn't auto-update.

As it stands: PC is up to patch 1.04 and console is up to 1.02 (1.50 on xbox one). With patch 1.00 being the fastest version on both. (XBO is currently unknown)

THIS IS OUTDATED, CHECK THE NEWEST POST BELOW ON THE NEW WAY TO DOWNGRADE

NO LONGER OUTDATED, THIS POST CAN BE FOLLOWED AGAIN

I've made a video of the differences in the versions so far. The hope is that this is fixed in version 3, but if not, you will have to downgrade your game. (don't watch this video, watch the video below)

(Disregard everything I'm saying about skipping the fight to find Ren, I'm dumb)

Just an update to everyone, the leaderboard has changed. If you do runs on emulator, please submit in the correct place. Real time is now the main method of timing, you can include IGT if you wish but no more pausing after heli blows up to check IGT.
