Thank you for all the hard work and countless hours you've put into glitching the hell out of this game so far, and thank you for sharing your methods with everyone as well. You are a GOD. I can't wait to perform your Chapter 12 skip in a run, I'm really looking forward to doing that soon.
I'd like to take this a step further and say that you can actually destroy all of those walls with two shots. I only showed the first one in that clip but it works for every single one of those walls that you come across in the run. Who woulda guessed that you only need 2 balls and your hot boner to get the job done.
I wanted to confirm that this does in fact work on the Xbox Series X, which has the fastest loads out of every version of the game. You just gotta do it pretty fast, but since it works on that version, it'll work on any version of the game. Just make sure you wait a second or two after the gate for the stairs to load, otherwise you can fall inside the stairs and get stuck there until you die. And it's Act 2-3 btw, not Act 2-2 like the 7 year old title states.
On the PS3 version I couldn't fit Quint's car on those stairs. Either the car model is bigger or the stairs are more narrow, idk
Edit: I think I see what it is. The Switch version is missing many boundaries and invisible walls that all the other versions of the game have.
During Chapter 11 if you get bad rng and have to go to the Forest Park for the twins, I found a slightly faster way than just driving all the way up there. Fast travel to the tree of anna and drive up to the stairs that are in front of your car. Before reaching the very top of the stairs, get out of the car and you'll end up right inside the cutscene trigger. It's still faster if you get good rng and can fast travel to the community center, but if not then this method is slightly faster than driving all the way up to the forest park.
Looking down is REALLY effective at reducing lag on the switch version of the game (and probably other console versions too). I saw Froob doing it at certain points in some of his runs, but only a few times here and there so I didn't think much of it. I was comparing everyone's times during the follow Nick section of the game since that whole portion should just be an autoscroller. Most of the runners who used the strat of either staying far behind or far in front of Nick had very similar times, and my time was only a few seconds slower. I figured the only difference was probably lag, so I started looking down more and more. Originally I had a time of 6:22 tied with Jadeithe, and both Froob and techninja701 had times of 6:17. When I tried looking down a few times I got 6:01, and when I did it as often as I could during that 6 minute drive, I got a 5:43. So I started looking down during every car ride and at any point in the game really. Saves a bunch of time. It's also really funny when you don't see where you're going and crash into other cars at top speed, flying 100 feet in the air.
tl;dr To paraphrase a wise Goldeneye speedrunner: look down and haul ass
It looks to me like this skips the trigger for the standoff, and so it doesn't occur. And once you skip it you don't take anymore damage from anything until the next standoff.
