Do you happen to know about the high jump you can do in Hinedere Beat? I briefly skimmed through the runs and didn't see it used.

It should help you get to some platforms that the game requires you to do some extra work for. As far as I remember, it's only useful to get onto ledges, I don't think you can get to rails / pipes this way or run up a wall at the end but I'll leave that to you to find out.

The short description of how to do it is: Hold up. Jump. In the landing animation, jump and (what feels like) a frame later kick. To move left / right in the air, you'll need to let go of up.

This seems like the frame you want to aim for when doing the jump / kick: https://i.imgur.com/VkP824u.png

Here's a short video with an input viewer:

All of the runs that are currently up are pre-Christmas update. If you want to submit Christmas Update runs, let me know and I'll add categories for them.

It seems like Ghost form might be required to beat the game... because of these stupid things.

https://i.imgur.com/FbjvEg1.png

None of them are lit up so I'm kinda stuck in the Priory unless I go back to the swamp. :/

EDIT: Actually, I think I've ruined this save file. This area is after the elevator gauntlet that breaks... You simply cannot continue or go back from the Priory as far as I can tell.

So, you don't actually need macros to perform the swamp skip. You can just use the spider form with clever use of the dragonflies. It's actually not as hard as I thought it would be.

The macro would still be useful for Pacifist runs thus far.

This trick/exploit requires the use of Macros for it to be extremely useful (currently).

In trying to do a pacifist run and not being able to do a certain jump without getting an upgrade for the magic meter, I discovered that by spamming the escape key while using an ability, you can extend the life of your magic meter by a little bit.

Example 1:

While messing around with it more in Immermeer, I thought about using macros to extend the magic meter. This led me to discover that you can extend your magic meter by an incredible amount.

Example 2:

Luckily enough, Immermeer has a great application for this extended magic meter: making it across the swamp without the Quantum Pilgrim's form or the Pilgrim's son.

Example 3:

First off, I do think it's possible to do this spider form alone by regenerating magic meter by killing the dragonflies, although it's probably very hard (EDIT: Check the next post. It's not that hard.). I'm going to keep trying this way.

Second off, I don't think this would save as much time as it seems like it would (for Any% at least; in a Pacifist run this would save a ton of time) since the Pilgrim's form (ghost form) is definitely the fastest form of movement and you would be required to use the Queen's form (spider form) for the rest of the run, but I do think this would be on the greener side of things in terms of time.

(For reference, in my 52:41 pb, Immermeer took me roughly 10 minutes to complete to get the ghost form.)

However, this does require the use of macros in runs (I really doubt anyone can spam Escape fast enough) which is probably a contentious point for most.

I'll keep looking around and see if I can find other applications or get an idea for the potential time this would save.

I thought it would be fun to have leaderboards for this game to see if anyone's up for the challenge of making this game any faster or finding some tricks and glitches.

I think this game has a lot of potential. It's super fun, just a little long. Let's break it together.

Good luck, friends!

Here's how to downpatch your game to v1.0.5.

  1. Open the Steam Console (choose the easiest for you):
  • open the Run window (win + R), type steam://open/console and press Enter.
  • create a shortcut to steam on the Desktop, right-click and go to Properties, add -console to the target, click Apply and Ok and open the shortcut.
  • run steam from a console with the -console option (ie: $ steam.exe -console).
  1. Paste the following command into the console and press Enter:
  • for PC: download_depot 771810 771811 1968959965336715170

The steam console will start downloading the patch, however it will give you no indication of progress so you will just have to wait it out. Once it is finished, the console will print out a line that says something along the following: Depot download complete : "\Steam\steamapps\content\app_771810\depot_771811" (580 files, manifest 1968959965336715170)

  1. Open the folder specified by the console and copy everything inside.
  • There should be a folder called TSWSM_Data, an executable called TSWSM.exe and a steam_api.dll.
  1. Navigate to your TSWSM installation directory (\Steam\steamapps\common\The spy who shot me™) and:
  • if you want to keep the most recent update so you don't have to re-download it, make a new folder and dump all of contents inside.
  • if you don't want to keep the most recent update, delete everything inside except for the \Steam\steamapps\common\The spy who shot me™\Saves folder.
  1. Paste the depot files into the installation directory.

  2. Exit Steam.

  3. Navigate to your steamapps folder (\Steam\steamapps), look for appmanifest_771810 and open it in a text editor:

  • look for StateFlags key and set its value to 4
  • look for UpdateResult key and set its value to 0
  1. Save the file and re-open Steam. You've successfully downpatched your game!

Note: You may need to repeat step 5 whenever future updates happen.

To undo all of this, simply navigate to your steamapps folder (\Steam\steamapps), delete the appmanifest_771810 file and restart steam. As a disclaimer, I suggest you delete the game folder as well and let Steam download the game from scratch.

Let me know if anything if you have any questions, if anything needs to be changed or anything's not working for you.

Let's have some fun going nowhere together!

Let me know how you feel about how I split up the sub-categories.

I didn't make individual levels because they are built into the game but let me know if you want them!

Good luck, friends!

Hello friend!

I would recommend starting with the any% video guide (found here: https://www.speedrun.com/momo4/guide/f2219 ).

I would also recommend joining the Discord and asking around if you need any help. The community is very active and willing to help new runners, especially if you stream.

Good luck on the runs!

Whoops, I made a mistake in my last post.

I've been doing a ton of runs lately and I just noticed something about how the final mission time gets calculated into the IGT speedrun time. This may change how you may want to do the final boss in future runs.

For the level PB, this one is kinda obvious. Your mission 20 time is the amount of time it takes for you to climb the stairs and choke the boss out and kill the big demon head, with the timing starting when you can move and ending when [MAIN OBJECTIVE COMPLETED] pops up. Annoyingly enough, this is the time that gets saved whenever you do mission 20 and never changes unless you get a lower time.

For the speedrun timer, the time that gets added to your IGT speedrun time is ONLY the amount of time it takes for you to kill the big demon head. That time starts approximately when the boss's head explodes from inside the boss HQ and the time ends when [MAIN OBJECTIVE COMPLETED] pops up. Why it does this? I have no idea. I guess the stair part is considered too random or something.

You should be able to calculate how much time it takes you by adding up all of your level times (Mission 0 - 19) and subtract it by your speedrun time. The time you get will be approximately the amount of time it takes for you to kill the demon head. I say approximately because the game rounds the level times when they're shown to you on the mission completed screen (most likely by the 4th unseen digit).

Hey!

Yeah, unfortunately the isn't any.

There are a few skips and glitches needed to get competitive times. I would say that they are more confusing (at first) than they are hard so they require quite a bit of practice but once you get the hang of them, the run is pretty smooth.

If you are planning on learning, I would suggest watching MrGentle's run all the way through a couple of times to try to understand what he's doing.

Here's the link to the run since the one on the leaderboard is broken for some reason:

I wrote up an updated any% guide since I found the current one missing some crucial information: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tVCGjn8fCxO1WN3dmi-wGKzrKxW7NHQFFQKYmf4TT1s/edit?usp=sharing

This should help you through most of the way. It helped me with my runs a lot. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hello friends. Hope you all are doing well.

I've been having fun running this game and I think other people would too. I've posted my pb and I'll post a guide or two to get people started in-time. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to make a thread!

I want to do something with the Omakes since they're cool and have their own timer; I'll either make levels for them or their own category eventually.

Good luck!

Yes! As soon as we figure out what categories and have a run or two for them we can do that.

These were posted in discord, I figured I'd make them available on the forums for newcomers.

Here's a tutorial on how to zip:

So far, there are 4 useful zips in the run. The time saves here aren't absolute but should give you a good idea of how much time zipping can save in total. At the end, I show 3 of them in the context of a run.

  1. Fire Dragon to Old Ruins (after defeating the Fire Dragon) Start position was the delta ruins.

Rolling (south side of the mountain): 20.3s Rolling (east side of the mountain): 18.633s Zip 1 (mountain zip): 14.933s Zip 2 (graveyard zip): 11.766s

There are two zips here because it's possible for you to end up on the south side of the large mountain in the middle of the map or to end up near the graveyard north of the old ruins (near mew cave). I believe that where you get zipped depends on where you enter the ruins from (still speculation).

  1. Second Watchtower to Pawt City (after clearing the Old Master's Ruins) Start position was the second watchtower.

Rolling: 31.134s Zeta Ruins Zip: 21.433s

  1. Cave Grotto to Ice Dragon (after getting Faith)

Before heading off to get Faith from the Hidden Cave, we save at the Catpital so we can save+quit and run to the Ice Dragon from there which saves some time.

Running from the Catpital: 26.400s Running to the Cave Grotto and Zipping: 15.266s

  1. Old Master's Island to Old Master's Ruins (Grandpaw Quest)

Flying from Island to Ruins: 19-20s

There are two zips that you can perform from the Old Master's Island cave and it seems that where you enter caves is important for each.

  1. Purre Cave (or close to) east of West Pawt. (https://i.imgur.com/0bdUCfY.jpg)
  2. Directly east of the Old Master's Ruins (near the The Deep Forest). (https://i.imgur.com/aPuiolr.jpg)

Zip 1: 8.867s Zip 2: 7.7s.

It seems like being right up against the cave, in front of the door, is the best position. I get one or the other. I don't know if there's a way to get one of them all the time. (https://i.imgur.com/ULEzdLM.jpg)

The first, second and fourth zips can be found in my 30:21 video at 5:16, 7:06 and 26:23 respectively:
