So I did a quick search and found this link which pretty much describes what you are experiencing: http://tasvideos.org/6290S.html

The reviewers seem to think this is a leftover debug mode. The also mention "by looking at the movie inputs and performing tests [they] could learn that this game end glitch can be triggered by meeting just two frame-perfect inputs".

I'm not a mod here, but I don't think this should be a category based on what I've seen.

I'm not a mod (or a runner of this game), but it would seem fine to me to use upgrades. The current run on pacifist is also a "low%" run which is why no upgrades were gotten. But by definition, pacifist just means killing only what you need to, not doing it with the least amount of weaponry.

Do you have a video of this glitch?

I would say since it's a completely different version (and plays quite differently), it should not be a category but rather have it's own board.

The Genesis and some PC versions have leaderboards of their own. If a board is not already made for this version, you'd have to contact site admins to request a game addition and be the moderator.

The SRC roll-back due to the hack erased Ouijawii and I's comments here.

But briefly, I don't even know what 100% would be in this game, and as Ouijawii pointed out, if it means all secret areas that is not possible. Really no need for 100%.

I'm a beginner and I'm running 100% mainly due to the easy nature of the late game (but also it forces me to learn lots of different strats and areas of the game). My first goal is under 2 hours, which is a reachable goal with easy techniques.

When I start a game, I learn the route first (not any real specific tricks unless they are mandatory). Finish a run or two and get the route memorized. Then look into specific strats or techniques you want to improve. Re-assess goals as they come.

Play first to learn and have fun, the time will come down in the process.

This will be up to moderators, but usually we don't post PB videos without the original runner's consent.

There are some PB videos missing from the leaderboard for this reason.

I'm not a mod, but personally I would not call that a glitch.

United StatesRandomEffekt5 years ago

Would be a nice challenge.

The scrolling OW map in the background both hurts my eyes and diverts my attention when watching runs.

Can we change it to a static image?

(I know I'm a mod and can do this myself, but I don't wanna change anything without approval)

^ This. If you're just playing casually Second Quest, get White Sword as early as possible...I'm not sure I should spoil anything else other than it is possible to get White Sword before level 2 (with only level 1 completed).

What are "total rankings" and where are those stored?

Toad and Whitehat mod a bunch of games and probably haven't seen these posts. I will ping Toad/Whitehat on Twitter to get their attention on this, and see if it speeds up creation of categories.

And overturned it was. Good stuff.

Timmi, beam_reach is doing a buffer similar to block clipping. It works as described, just much more limited application due to needing one of the boomerangs.

Tried it for myself, does work as described, similar to the block clip. Does appear to work on 2 pixels (5th and 6th) same as the block clip.

Might be slightly more useful with a wooden boomerang since it takes less time to come back to you...you might as well just walk the screen if you use bluemerang unless you can hit an enemy and make it come back sooner...which may be actually harder to set up and accomplish than just doing a 1-frame input normal scroll.

Also, probably doesn't have much application in speedruns (maybe 100% since you get the bluemerang), but I could see it possibly being useful in randomizers for newer players who want to skip nasty OW screens.

Interesting. Never seen that before.

I saw you were talking to Fiskbit in the Discord and he mentioned that the original ROM you are using may be corrupted somehow. I think I read that you got it fixed though?

United StatesRandomEffekt5 years ago

Do you have a video clip of it happening?

I tried looking into your past broadcasts, I only see 2 videos with a randomizer play in it, and don't see what you are mentioning in either of them (the most recent one seems to have really bad lagging).

I don't really know why the rest of the game would work as intended, and only the triforce after Gannon makes a crash...so a video would be helpful.

I tried about 20 more runs with stage 4 start....never made it past that stage on PB pace. It's still going to be a challenge to get under even 12:30 I think.

I can only stand the unskippable intro for so long...haha.
