Ahoy runners. I just wanted to stop in and say thanks to everyone active or otherwise for growing this community as much as you have. Also thanks to all the past and current Mods for doing all the work to keep this ship afloat.

Good luck pirates and I'll see you all in the future.

Ahoy fellow quick-pirates. Smoosh here. I have something important to say and I hope you read to the end.

We all owe Toastiewaffles the highest gratitude and appreciation. Without Toast possibly none of this would exist.

I requested Speedrun.com to add this game a little over 2 years ago. I never expected the community to grow like it did. It was growing quickly and I could not do it alone. I needed help so I brought on Toast to give me a hand with verifying runs, making rules and just generally maintaining the page.

Well shortly after tragedy struck me and my family's lives. I was gone for months at a time and rarely was able to check the site much less play a video game. The entire time I was gone Toast remained vigilant, verifying runs quickly, handling complaints and request, and creating or managing a majority of the categories and content on the page.

Because of this I have to offer my sincerest thanks and love to you Toast. Without you none of this would exist. You are a true MVP. Everyone involved in this page needs to know they should feel the same. You could have walked away at any point and I'm sure sometimes it was rough. You deserve all the praise in the world from me and this entire community.

So please join me in thanking your host, Toastiewaffles. Without Toast's support all of you would very possibly have no where to post your amazing runs. And they are amazing, I've been paying attention when I've had time.

Thank you to all the runners who made my dream come true of being a real, verified speed runner on a real community, short-lived as my time was. Thank you to speedrun.com for accepting my request for a SOT page, which was started with just one Any% Athena's run. It was a little under 2 hours. Thank you to anyone that supported or helped me and again, most of all, thank you Toast.

For now I have to continue supporting my family and will not be playing SOT or much of anything for that matter. So until next time I wish all of you happy sailing, good luck, have fun and stay safe.

Your former host, Smoosh

I think either would be cool. I like the idea of having an all achievements run. It really is no big deal to create a second account for the run and anyone not willing to do so doesn't really want to attempt the run anyway. And the 100% is super practical. Both great ideas. Unfortunately, due to excessive pranking last year, we can't edit the page today. This is not an April fools joke, but because of them. We had a nice thing and everyone broke it... For shame speedrun.com, for shame.

I would just watch the videos at .25 speed both where the skull is picked up and the beginning of the run. Then just figure out the times from there.

The world record for 100% was held by a solo sloop for a good bit of time. TazedandConfused. Its currently at 3rd place with a strong time.

I agree with Toast. Until recently, because of the all the amazing runners in this community, there weren't many speedrun videos on YouTube. One of the first that was posted was actually a ship sink speedrun. I don't know if its still up or if you anyone has seen it but it definitely existed. It was lost in all of the "most treasure on a boat in a single full server with 5 galleons 20 pirates their mothers and the mother's butlers with 16 camels and a rolex" runs.

The issues I had then with the video and the issues I have now are as follows:

  • The hole limit on each ship is capped.
  • The sink speed of the ships are all capped.

Now, to watch the content would be great. Id like to see creative ways people can come up with to sink their own ships. I would absolutely watch a channel devoted to that, but I unfortunate don't believe its a viable run.

Hmm... maybe a run where you use buckets to sink your boat.... That could be a time-able thing.

The great thing is we can make this up however we want. We can change rules when a problem occurs. We can create and even abandon categories entirely. I LOVE the bell run idea, I like the idea of staying alive in the red sea, although I would think that's probably got a time cap on it as well, may be worth testing.

Annnnyyywaysssss... I love this, keep sailing, keep thinking.

                                                                                                                      - Smoosh

Well, if time were started when the shovel is given, or really any arbitrary point (i.e. discover old chest, pick up old chest), it would ensure than anyone running has already gained control of their pirate. Also it would mean you aren't hovering over the start button waiting for the drop. On a side note, I haven't played Maiden Voyage yet. I'm pretty excited

(Edit: Just started it. how about the Banana. Also i have no problem gaining control before the first text box.)

United StatesOldHarvey4 years ago

What about starting time when you receive the shovel?

(Edit: We can go back and shave time off the completed runs pretty easily as well. Just a suggestion.)

Tough one...

United StatesOldHarvey4 years ago

I would assume you're talking about the load in time being faster. The timer starts when the player gains control of the ig character not when you load in, so it shouldn't be a problem. Go ahead and send in a recording of you starting the voyage and we will look into it.

A big community welcome to our newest Mod, Toastie. Thanks to Toastie we will have all the new Tall Tales added to Level Leaderboards soon, as well as some interesting new runs ideas I'm sure. Also, runs will be verified much quicker. I've gotten into a car accident recently and am not doing to much of anything lately. Including play games... So Toastie, you are really helping out a lot. Raise those tankards mateys! Three Cheers for Toastie

It is clear after watching the video the runner was not on the island the quest is voted on when the run started, nor are they on their ship in range of the starting island. My apologies to the community and the runners, as I have to disqualify the run.

On 100% time stops when the last of the loot is sold. It can be sold in any order. The merchant items may be in any condition as long as all items are sold. Happy sails.

@Danny_DinoGamer Ahoy, thanks for the interest and the run. Fun run to watch, good job. Sparing you and the community boring details, I've had a lot going on and the page has fallen back a notch or two on my priorities, but I am creating a separate category for Guilded Athenas. It will be up in about an hour.

As for the Ashen runs, they will most likely never be their own category, as I believe (but can be persuaded otherwise) there are not enough contributing factors from either run, Ashen or standard Athena, to give either a consistent advantage. Lots of RNG on both, lots of luck needed, in true pirate fashion. Also, there must be a standard. If we start creating categories for Ashen runs and such, then we have to start considering solo runs, 2 man sloops, 2 man brigs., and so on and so forth. The possibilities are endless, or somewhere around 54... It's just too much, and with future content always "next month" essentially, we'll always be creating new categories and don't want to bite off more than we can chew. Right now there are almost as many categories as there are followers. Lets have fun filling those leaderboards.

As Narz pointed out the Tall Tales categories are up, and a few runs have already been submitted.

Well Danny, thanks again for all the support and happy sails. -Smooshie Booshie

I do agree with every point you made. At the time I wasn't sure how I felt about it and probably should have consulted the community. I'll make the new category and move the run, as well as make the appropriate changes to the rules. Also I'd like a second Mod on the channel. Someone to consult about issues I run into like this. I'll make a separate forum post for the matter. If anyone is interested, we can discuss more there. As for this change I'll keep it as is for the rest of the day. If anyone has any opinions or objections go ahead and voice them. Thanks for the post @DreadPirateRoberts.

Ahoy pirates. Just wanted to say congrats to all the new world record holders and congrats to any new teams or runners that have placed and made it to the leaderboards. And also thanks to everyone for joining the community and helping it grow. -Smoosh (Gamertag: EasterSunday VI)

So I've debated with numerous people over the skull fort run. The biggest issue is you can't prove that you were the first one on the island. A team can easily jump server and have someone waiting on a fort for the skull fort to begin and start completing it. Then sail to the island and have a few less waves. So then the timer would have to being when the island spawns. So it would be dumb luck to even start a run. There are so many issues, I just don't think it will ever happen. As for the sinking of the ship thing, I like it. I'm all for goofy runs, any ideas are welcome.

EDIT: All runners must be on the ship in range of the starting island or on the island the tale is voted for.
