The games that I've seen that do allow emulators have very seriously vetted it out. They're more than welcome and encouraged to practice on emulator, but in the end there's too many unknowns for a complex game like this. "Correctly" is subjective - I'm suspecting nobody tested BF1 with an extremely fine comb with a lot of programming and assembly knowledge. It may seem unnecessary, but if there's something breaking (like a slightly different frame rate or different RNG pace) then it breaks some of the integrity of the run. Dema has proven that hitting a good time on Hard setting over a whole run on PC is viable though. That's less of a concern for me after viewing parts of his runs.

OBS is free - if you've put in any money in a PC in the last 10 years, you can spend $10 and be running BF1 in no time. BostonBrew has much more experience with capture equipment than I do, but I bought an Elgato CC for about $100 (I know, more than what a lot of people want) and a converter ($10-$20) to do console runs with my old GC and it works great and I plan to try a couple of PS2 runs of BF1 if my disc will hold up.

Also, of the games you listed - GT3 (didn't see 4) - Must be run with the original disk/dvd GTA:VC - Only one person has ever run on JPN emulator and they've never talked about it in the forums. JaD:PCL - No emulator runs RE4:Console - All emulator runs are banned (forum) SCandtheTR - All emulator runs are banned (forum)

I feel like kind of a jerk, but I needed to show that until there is greater evidence emulators aren't really going to be accepted. Even though there is an argument to be made about more people speedrunning this game, there's always some controversy down the road about emulators that I'd love to avoid.

I'm in the camp of "prefer real platform" even though the argument is that emulator is easier and more accessible. The reason I say this is even in a lot of other communities there are heavy restrictions on emulator, even if they are mostly similar. Things like framerates, AI behavior and calculations, normal console lag, etc. are usually compared in-depth before a larger community allows emulators. Plus, this game is easily accessible on PC because of Steam now.

However, I'd love to hear other's opinions and experiences in other speedrunning communities.

Nice, I actually didn't know you could get to that CP from there. In the right situation, it could be a nice save and that's what you need sometimes.

Hey BostonBrew, the GCW Any% is set to two players. I manually just put in "nobody" for now. I didn't check the others.

There's plenty of stuff I have documented but it's been a while since I've dug into it. I've broken the 5 person spawn limit mostly, gotten to be an invincible jedi hero on an unmodded map, expanded mine limits, spawned as a third team (still pretty broken), and some other fun stuff. I'm not that great at it but I've dumped some time in it

Hard is extremely hard on PC. The AI for version 1.2 (PC only) was greatly improved, and it is noticeable in comparison (see my 5 hour hard run in which I get totally destroyed at the end). The bad part about this is that there isn't a good way to go back to the 1.0 version without the original 3-disk set. In addition to that, the soldier is a little underpowered on PC because no Aim Assist, and the pilot's ability to heal (along with the shotgun being nice) is good to have.

A lot of times you just have to go with the flow of the game and really try to not lose CPs. Manips for certain maps would be amazing however - it could change the scope of some of the longer runs.

PC has the same load time by default as PS2. Xbox is faster, but it's not that big of a deal. Other communities do "With/without" load timing, but I think this community is on the small side and probably shouldn't worry about it. This doesn't impact IL anyway, which I believe is being more heavily ran at the moment than full game runs.

Current times in campaign and full game runs aren't even close enough (at the top, anyway) to warrant different timing.

Full game runs are more fun because of the back-breaking RNG :)

The AI jumping out has to do with their pathing and what goal they are trying to reach. If they get close enough to a CP, they may decide to change goals (instead of following the current path, heading for CP, or switching to the next path which may not be a vehicle path). There's really no way to predict this, however, it is pretty consistent on some planets. Also, I think if the vehicle is stuck, they will try to change objectives, but I'm not sure about this.

The "jump out at 25 reinforcements" is confirmed a feature, not a bug. I have been able to disable the code on PC in the exe during testing.

I played with this last night on PC. What I assume is the RNG value increments a somewhat inconsistent amount on Spawning, Respawning, shooting, and going into ball mode. I might be missing another factor to determine where to spawn because not everyone spawns in the same spot (and even I can't get it to stay completely consistent, which is why I think I'm missing something), but it seems to go in cycles rather than changing every value. If you knew where your spawn point was on the cycle, you could theoretically manipulate it but you would need access after spawning to alter values or be able to predict how much it is going to move when AI spawn (AI impact the cycles) I can create pictures of the key spawns (I have the PC mod tools and they didn't change the basis of the maps between systems) but it might be a little much. For example, I use the tactic of only running CW on a clean run of the game. This ensures that I get the same spawn next to the tank that I want. There are 12 spawn nodes at that CP and you always get node 10 on a clean boot if you spawn first. 12 nodes is going to be hard to predict and in this case you have to have Cheat Engine running to keep track of the values.
