Yes that is the code I posted, it forces changes the P1 character, but it does not change the portrait and name like the Ash one does, so it is not truly a Shiva code. It seems there is not a working one for Shiva on select screen on BK3. "MAWA-AAJ0" does not work for me at least. Gamehacking has this code but I could not make it work: 00F936:4E71

Could we post what is the recommended Game Genie cheat to use for Ash and Shiva? GameHacking.org has a working one for Ash (BA3T-AAGN) but I could not find a good one for Shiva except the P1 Character Modifer (FFDF0C:0002) which unfortunately keeps the portrait and name of the original character selected (but seems to work normally in all other aspects).

By game over you mean you used a continue? If so I believe that is still a valid run, as long as it was done in a single sitting and you did not reset or restart the game/console.

Awesome! Glad to see people coming back to this game!

Nice! Awesome to see another runner! Congrats!

I asked @berlindude1 about this once and since it is strictly a sprite change, he said it was OK. This is also valid for the first game.

Don't think this case is a matter of cheat codes or not, but a matter of playing in the same category. 2Players category does not allow same character, so if you use a cheat code to achieve that, you are not in the same category anymore. If you want to add a special category for that, then it is another discussion I guess.

I think the most accurate emulator currently is Genesis Plus GX with the nuked (ym2612) option enabled (if you can afford the CPU hit). I prefer to use it with Retroarch, but the Genesis Plus also has a standalone version.

Retroarch with Genesis Plus also has netplay, so that is an option

Cool!

For maximum accuracy, and if your pc can handle it with no problem, you can change the option "Mega Drive / genesis FM" to nuked(ym2612). It emulates, theoretically, the sound and lag of a real hardware to as close as possible. But for now that is not a requirement on most speedruns as far as I can see.

For roms I recommend getting the "No-Intro" packs from archive.org. They are complete and perfect from the cartridge. Not linking directly as I don't know the rules for this kind of thing.

Kega is probably not accurate enough at this point.

Has anyone taken a look at the new function? https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-1-7-2-released/

With that cores like genesis plus and higan, which are cycle accurate, should be exactly the same as the real hardware in terms of accuracy of emulation and lag input. I think we should encourage the use of this so more people can speedrun in equal grounds if they don't have access to real consoles and good crts.

The only caveat, I think, is that we should determine how much input lag the real console has to set the standard for the emulator. I know from my speedrun (Bare Knuckle 3) that it has 1 frame of input lag, but I'm not sure if that is from the game itself (like SMB has 2 frames of input lag as shown in the video of the article), or from the emulator. I don't want to give myself any kind of edge by using emulator, I want it to be fair for everybody.

What are your thoughts everyone?

Thanks!

I agree with the "All Starts" category, looks better than 100%!

Congrats Contos!

Hello, I would like to request to be a mod of https://www.speedrun.com/bk_3. I have asked the Supermods but iReference has been MIA and Galedog did not reply. We curently have only one mod and it would be nice to have two I think.

Thank you.

Can anyone tell me what are the differences in the difficulty levels? I could not find it anywhere.

Thanks a lot!

According to the TAS, the Olympic games are faster if you keep the other runners in the screen and win at the last second. Which, judging by the time at the end of each race, looks correct.

You can also check the time for the football game:

http://tasvideos.org/5496S.html

It also has a nice strat to take less damage at the beggining of Le Pirée which might help with the deathless run.

For emulators, I do have to recomend Retroarch using the core bsnes-mercury-accuracy. It is probably the most accurate emulator of all.

I will try to be active on the board and help as I can, but I can't run the game atm, unfortunately. Sorry about it.

I did try the damage boost to pass thru the wall in La Palais for quite some time. Can't say for sure as I didn't use frame by frame tests but it is quite easy to manipulate the egiptian to run back and hit you in the correct place, but you still don't get enough height.

The catapult glitch is awesome. I could not reproduce it tho, can you give a quick guide for it?

Can anyone tell me what are the differences in the difficulty levels? Just boss health or enemies and other hazards also change?

Thanks a lot!

I second the request, want to start running the game too and it's cool to be able to create different strats for different chars and tastes.
