I would love to see IL leaderboards, just wanting to throw my voice in there.

Hey, I just got the game and I’m looking to start running it soon. Should I just go for some standard rules?

I’ve been running the game longer than Roo. he surpassed my knowledge and skill of the game. He definitely earned his mod spot. If anyone else was to be mod I would hope it would be johntabin. No offense Davis but you have a long long long way to go to become mod in this game.

How about adding another mod or two? Speed up the verification process a bit?

Awesome, thanks everyone

There are basic rules which apply for any game on this site.

  1. Your sumission should be a twitch highlight, YouTube link or some other form of video that’s more permanent than a normal twitch vod.

  2. You should show your whole run from a little before the run begins to a little after the run ends. There may be specifics on when to start timing the run to when to stop the timer based off the game. Each different game will have the specifics about those times in the rules. Your submission should show the whole run in one segment, not broken up into multiple parts.

Now having said that, twitch highlights or YouTube videos get deleted from time to time. Sometimes the user will delete them, sometimes they get removed from the site but the fact remains that you need to try to make the video as permanent as possible.

These rules are common sense, they aren’t stated on every different game’s rules. It’s not a mod’s job to search through a vod to find the start of your run. In the future you might have multiple attempts at a run during each session, all of the attempts except for the one you are submitting should be cut out of the submission. Each game is a community of players that follow rules that were put in place by the community at some point or another. If you don’t like the rules you can suggest a change to them but generally the community will need to agree on the rule changes and no one is going to agree that it’s ok for the videos to go away after a month. No one would like a world record that they couldn’t view.

I like it as well but if a moving background is messing with some people’s eyes as they are watching videos or browsing then I wouldn’t want my opinion to be weighed against theirs. Functionality and fairness should come before aesthetics.

Upload it to YouTube would be one easy way. There is also a way to upload videos to your twitch channel I believe.

Any advice on my main question about PotD? Is there some advantage players get by being higher level or something?

California, USA4iSteven5 years ago

Will any level 70 be able to destroy dungeons that quickly or is gear a factor?

California, USA4iSteven5 years ago

Hey guys, I’ve been a speedrunner for a while now but I’m pretty new to final fantasy 14. I’d like to try to do some runs but I’m starting to think I might need to max some things out first?

I have a level 41 ninja. So far the fastest I could solo 1-10 PotD was 22:30. Someone mentioned there is some stat that would make me stronger and able to clear it out more quickly? I’m also unclear on the rules because there don’t appear to be any rules.

I’m also seeing people completely dominate dungeons while solo. I’m guessing they are somehow going in without syncing their level?

Are there any resources or guides for a new player that I might have missed?

Thanks for the time.

You can set it up as one split. Start when you start and stop when you kill Baal in whatever difficulty you are trying to do.

The mods don’t care about individual splits so much.

You don’t have to stream but if you’re unheard of and start pumping out world records it will look highly suspicious to everyone. I feel like it’s important to submit a run no matter how good or bad it is. after that, submit significant pbs. Not only is it good for your reputation, it’s also nice to be able to go back and see the history of your runs and have a clear record of what you have done.

Live streaming attempts is unnecessary but it’s a lot of fun. You will meet a lot of cool people and often times people will come in and help you out.

Edit: also, streaming keeps it interesting. It starts to become difficult when you’re grinding games for hours and hours with nothing else to do. I couldn’t have pushed some games down as far as I did without streaming them. I’d lose my mind.

There is another post where the person had the same issue I believe. At least it sounds similar. You might want to contact them to see if they worked it out or try what others suggested. Personally I would join the discord and ask there. You might get more answers or maybe the devs will chime in or something.

Anyway here is The other forum post https://www.speedrun.com/Celeste/thread/mpcmo

Nice article about an amazing race. The Celeste race was definitely one of my favorite gdq segments ever.

You use autosplitter? In game timer?

Just because there are no current routes where it is used in any% no up a doesn’t mean someone couldn’t figure out a way to save time with it. The world wrap wasn’t in the old world record route until cantaloupe figured out a way to save time with it.

If you enjoy hud clipping maybe you will be the person that finds out how to save time with it in any% no up a.

A fun trick is entering level 8 from the hud. Burn the bush, scroll up into the hud and you can walk right into 8 from the hud. Not very useful but definitely cool.

I just remembered something. If you want to see some in action I believe you can see some on the 100% race at gdq last year.

It’s basically the same as the side scrolls except you push left or right instead of up or down. 5 pixels from the top or bottom. There is really nowhere that it will speed a human up in any% no up and a. It is however useful in saving time in some routes for 100% and any%. Look up runs by eunos for when and where to use them. Even his runs only has one or two places that uses it. It’s more useful for swag. Some players have started using a vertical scroll from the 100 secret on the north to getting to the blue candle by level 5. It doesn’t save time for a human but it keeps you more safe from the enemies. Verticals can be dangerous for soft locking the game.

This run seems more like something that should be on a category extensions page. I wouldn’t run this purely because i Enjoy a challenge. God mode takes away a little of the challenge.

Having said that though, do whatever is fun for you. We are all here to have fun after all right?
