"My suggestion: remove (archive) old patch, remove PS Vita, remove normal and hard difficulty. And of course, add Inferno difficulty and glitchless."

Tell me you know nothing about leaderboard moderation without telling me you know nothing about leaderboard moderation. Or this game lol

"If glitchless is around for a while, why is there no leaderboard?"

Because everybody who has done "glitchless" set their own definitions and were doing it more or less for fun. There's all kinds of little things ranging from how swaps and jumps are abused to bypass things, to whether Early Hummel should be allowed, that make codifying an ironclad ruleset that everyone agrees upon tricky. To say nothing of "damage glitch", which despite what you say is still liable to proc even at 60 frames per second because this game has its share of programming oddities. Then you start getting into really granular rulemaking, like the banning of otherwise optimal skills lest they have the chance of procing damage glitch, or making people roll the dice with using said optimal skills and hoping they wouldn't proc it.

"And also why I couldn't find anyone who did a glitchless Inferno run?"

Nobody runs on Inferno at all, let alone glitchless. A few people have talked about it, but nothing manifested.

"Then saying it's impossible to make a glitchless run sounds like an excuse."

Never said it was, but enough people have disagreed on what to allow and what not to allow that it's never really been codified.

"Maybe you do not want to put the effort to moderate?"

Or maybe you do not want to put the effort to listen to what a moderator has to say before asking questions you don't know the answer to.

"Also, why is there is no category at all for Inferno difficulty?"

Nobody runs Inferno. Barely anyone has run anything higher than Easy for all manner of reasons, so there's never been much impetus to add it. Ys VIII didn't originally release with Inferno as an option. Part the reason the leaderboard is as cluttered as it is is because the difficulties above Easy were added very early on by the mods who created this page, and removing after the fact something poses more problems.

Honestly more than willing to add the difficulty to the leaderboard, there's just not been any real push to do so since pretty much nobody runs anything above Easy even with the leaderboards there.

"Also, why is the main plateform not PC when you open the game page?"

Better question, is an extra click on the Console sub-category bar too much trouble for you to find the PC runs?

Although PC became the most run platform eventually, the game released on Vita before anything else, eventually getting its PS4 expanded console release, then PC then Switch. PC also launched as an absolute mess before PH3 more or less fixed the game, so it was far from the preferred platform until several years after it released. The simple answer is just that the sequence of consoles on that bar is in order of platforms by their respective release date for the game. We didn't even have a Switch option there until someone started doing Switch runs.

"They are different set of skills: being good at glitches vs. good at the vanilla game."

Speedrunning definitionally is not simply "being good at the vanilla game" to begin with. Hell, if you want to beat the game blindfolded 1-handed on a guitar hero controller that'd be its own set of skills, but that does not necessarily make for something should be given a category on the leaderboard. You're welcome to do whatever runs you want under whatever ruleset you like, but that does not mean that they have to be given a spot on a leaderboard under the exact rules you define them as. And in this case I've already explained why we don't have a codified, "people agreed upon this" ruleset for what is/isn't glitchless in this game because the amount of things you'd have to set specific restrictions on to minimize the risk of anything that could even conceivably be a glitch borders on baroque, and there's no full agreement on what possible glitches/tricks/exploits to allow as a compromise to make the ruleset more reasonable. Nothings stopping you from running your own thing without it being on a leaderboard anyways.

Glitchless has been around a long while. There is no official leaderboard category for it because a ton of stuff is too easy to perform accidentally because Ys VIII has its share of spaghetti code. Glitchless speedruns would run into the issue of people trying to get away with as many little accidents as possible, defeating the purpose.

You're also welcome to try and get a sub-1:15 in ASB if you think glitches make the game too easy 😉

^There's also the ability to warp upon interacting with an object to skip the item-get sequence, but even that's arguably debateably even a glitch given it's basically just a buffered input that goes off during another one and the result is effectively the same, only with an animation skip.

Feena's double EXP feels so easy to have happen by accident with mashing text that you'd have to deliberately slow your text clearing to make not happen, and it really doesn't change the route of the game whether you get it or not.

So it really would come down to the OoBs, and neither of those are consequential enough to warrant a category split, I would agree.

Hence forward, all runs submitted on PC will require you to include the load remover time in addition to real time.

Be sure to click the box where it says "activate" in your Livesplit.

I moderate a game (Ys IX) that recently added a load remover for its PC version. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add it so that "time without loads" and RTA are listed separately exclusively on the PC console variable, with "time without loads" as the default variable showing up while not adding "time without loads" to every other variable ranking on the page. I also can't seem to add this timing method without making it so that every run is listed as "time without loads", when all existing times on the board are RTA and I do not want to have to manually edit every single run's existing time to make it correctly be in the RTA column. Would anyone be able to help? Thanks in advance.

DS is a viable console to submit a recording from. Though from what I've been told, GBA games run a tiny bit slower on DS compared to GBA hardware (about 0.072hz from what I could find online) which would translate to a time loss of about 5 seconds for an any% run around the 71-73 minute range and 15 seconds for a glitchless run in the 202-205 minute range on GBA (current any% and all bosses WR is done on Switch which I believe has a slightly better framerate than GBA or DS, although the data on those are still new) which means you are putting yourself at a very small handicap over other platforms by running on DS.

You can now submit ILs of boss fights. Extra mode or story mode is allowed for these, and we use ingame time.

The long version: What Carterferris07 said. I'm more open to adding categories if people actually do runs as a proof of concept before hand with a clear definition, because even if we add them people are probably not gonna do them.

The short version: No.

Would like for runners of the game (especially on PC) to discuss requiring a framerate display for runs of the game on PC (and capping it at the game's 120FPS setting) in order to prevent runners who have more powerful rigs from gaining a hardware-dependent advantage in their times by running uncapped at higher framerates.

Though this is largely kept in our discord, I am posting here as well for full transparency.

Switch version has been added as a variable now, given a few of its categorical differences.

It actually isn't, this is the first known glitch beyond the little 5 second one in the first mini-game.

It seems to be an anomaly, where that spot holds a loading zone to the screen above it, which causes you to zip through a wall and into the screen north of it.

Referring to this as "Gooply Skip" after the person who showed it to the community, this skips the Slival tank fight, which saves probably around a minute to two minutes (you have to find another slime elsewhere however).

Never posted this before as I only found the full thing recently, but megane also has a recording of a 100 slime run done much faster than existing times. This is the YT playlist for it.

The glitch you mentioned (pausing to bypass enemies) exists in the current PC version unless you're thinking od something else.

The main thing we wanted to avoid in splitting the categories was the D1 exploit where enemies would despawn in battle and the glitch where starting a new file over a completed one would give you equipment you shouldn't have. The former was fixed pretty fast, but we wanted to avoid version-hunting.

I have to imagine the 1.01 Switch version is not homologous to the PC 1.01 version given the release dates, and is probably closer to the 1.19 patch than the PC 1.01, could be wrong though.

I still think wii is faster than GC. I was saving frames on every load.

Might just come down to the age of the hardware affecting the laser.
