The Arsenal Update is now live!

In this post, we'll be going over what we're changing for this update and what experiments we'll be undergoing for this update.

The Usual: Update Board Clear

Like always, a new update means that we're adding a new version to the filter tab. This means that all 1.1.x runs are now final, unless you still happen to have a run lying around!

1.2 is now the default filter selected, so if you still want to look at the 1.1.x records, please select it from the version dropdown filter.

Rule Change - Co-Op Must Submit Both POVs

Previously, we required at least one player to upload their POVs. This changed while 1.1.x was out, but were still lenient on only having one VOD/POV. This is now strictly enforced, so submissions with only one POV present will be rejected.

Experiments

Exp 1: Removing Class-Specific Filters

After some chatting with the speedrunners in Discord, we've opted to remove class filters for this update. We aim to increase meta-development between runners! Keep in mind that there's one thing that's not changed:

Submitting a run of another class you've already submitted will not obsolete it. This means that you can be present up to 6 times on the leaderboard!

While this change as a whole is slightly controversial, if it's not to the liking of the community after all, it's as simple as clicking one button to revert it. Keep the feedback coming!

Exp 2: Removal of RTA times on S-Rank%, adding RTA on Any%

Since this didn't add anything of value and many records were missing it anyway, this will make the board easier to look at and better to browse. Since Any% is going to be tracked with the In-Game Timer, having RTA present on the leaderboard makes it have more value. LTR is currently very hard for us to track, so RTA will be used for now.

Exp 3: Rule Change - Any% Now Allows Bugs/Glitches

This is to revitalize the category, which means that you're now allowed to clip out of bounds! The In-Game Timer will still be used for timing, so having it paused as much as possible will be the strat! You're allowed to post real times here too.

That's all for now, have fun exploring the update and smashing more badbots, and going very fast doing it!

Roboquest 1.1 is out!

What does this mean for speedrunning?

Board Update

As per usual for an update, due to the new sections present in Ruins, Quarry and Oasis, the board's received the new 1.1.x category! Yes, it'll look empty for the first little while, but this is normal for our speedrunning board.

  • Lottery Luke rules

Just like the Powercell Converter in Early Access, Luke is banned from usage in runs. This is to discourage cheating in wrenches and keep the power cell economy closer to the game's design.

  • Co-Op Submissions

From now on, we'll require both POVs to verify a co-op run. While this may raise the entry barrier, we can't tell if another player uses Lottery Luke on their end without having video proof.

Notable Changes

  • New randomized sections for Quarry, Ruins, and Aqua Station
  • All classes got minor buffs (except Commando)
  • Jetpack fuel reduced from 3s to 2.5s and increased regeneration duration from 2.5s to 4s (but fixed the grapple into jetpack bug)
  • Slight boss health buffs
  • Beetle Royale damage buff

That's it for now! Any additional changes will be added here if we deem them necessary. Enjoy smashing the badbots in new ways (but very fast)!

Hello fellow brobots!

With the upcoming release of Roboquest on the 7th of November, planned at 15:00 CET, 1.0 will officially be released to the public. We're all very excited about this, but this also means that there's an end to a chapter of Roboquest. The Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview will be wrapped up, which means runs in these versions will no longer be able to be submitted unless you still have old footage.

What does this mean for existing speedruns?

All speedruns that are submitted and verified will remain. They'll still be viewable by anyone with a nostalgic interest in how the game looked before 1.0!

Another important point is that there are some changes in how the difficulty works. They're named differently (knowledge acquired from the revealed Steam achievements) and scale differently too.

What does this mean for new speedruns?

Not a lot will change, I can assure you that. Heroes+6 is being renamed Guardian IV, so if you still want to submit an H+6 Early Access run, please do so under Guardian IV. Do note that the game will wipe your EA/Game Preview save as part of the 1.0 release.

The new class' name has also been revealed: the Elementalist. They have been added as a class to the list for browsing runs in the Solo categories and an indication on the P1/P2 list in the Co-Op categories.

Of course, a massive update means new levels. These will not be added yet as it's kind of a major spoiler (& I personally do know the names of the new levels, but I'm still under NDA until 1.0 comes out). All new routes will be revealed about a day before the game actually launches. I encourage you to play the game without being spoiled though, as I can confirm that it's a very fun and rewarding experience.

I'll still be verifying runs together with GelmoSan. However, I am considering looking for people to verify runs. It'll be just verifying for now, but that can change at a later point if the game becomes very popular! If such a point is ever reached, a Speedrunning Discord server will likely be made too.

Thank you!

For now, I want to thank all of you for taking this journey with us. Early Access was a great choice for Roboquest, as most of you who jumped in before 0.10 can attest to. Thank you all for being great brobots, and I'll see you when 1.0 releases!

Happy smashing badbots :D

Hey everyone, Sotumney here back again with another wacky Speedrun update post (insert bad pun here)

As some of you might've noticed, Roboquest is now available on Xbox consoles! This means that all compatible consoles have been added to the submittable platforms. (Edit: Series S performance issues are fixed!) You can select the platform by clicking your platform when you submit a run.

I've also worked through a pretty substantial amount of runs because I was too busy playing the game myself instead of verifying runs smh With that out of the way, here's the 0.12 Speedrun changelog to come along with it:

  • All runs utilizing the glitched 0.12.0 "Paint Brush" item have been rejected (0.12.1 has patched it!)
  • The platforms Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X have been added as a submission platform
  • Set the default difficulty category to display to Standard (because it has more runs)

Keep in mind this is the final Early Access update before full release, 1.0.0 is set to release in 2023. Depending if there's a playtest (and I can preview things lol) I might need to adjust the board a lot. That's it for this wacky Speedrun update, as always: happy robot smashing!

Hey everyone, Sotumney here!

Once again, we're announcing that the 0.12 playtest is live on Steam! You can activate it if you right-click on Roboquest within your Library, go to Properties, and select Betas. This is where you can select the "rqplaytest" build.

The most important additions to this playtest: (Note: these are not final and subject to change)

  • Difficulties above Heroes now spawn Elite enemies which have different variants
  • A new Phase 1 boss (which makes me think Dr. Turret should be getting moved up a tier)
  • Massive basecamp visual and structural overhaul
  • A couple of new weapons
  • A NEW CLASS!?!?!?!?! Ranger takes over the Stealth role and ability from recon, with a crit-based passive and a heckin' javelin.
  • Recon has been reworked to have a dash, or rather, blink over a stealth ability

Do report game-breaking bugs via F10 or the playtest channels in the Discord server. And as always, keep smashing badbots!

Heyo all! Small leaderboard update this time as I'm doing this currently along the Dutch translation :P I'll get right into the changelog from 0.10:

  • New version filter has been made
  • Recon is currently set to default
  • Outstanding runs that were submitted on 0.10 but 0.11 was already released have been moved into their new & correct respective categories

Friendly reminder that we would like to have IGT times submitted only as it keeps it visually easy to read, specifically on the co-op board. It starts folding categories if we do want to display real-time as well. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Anyway, that's it for this update! Enjoy the 0.11 update, happy robot smashing!

Heyo all, it's been a while! First of all, welcome to the 0.10 update! I sure hope you all have been enjoying it, as I've certainly enjoyed it so far! You might not know what happened to 0.9, but the story is pretty much that a lot of people didn't like it in playtesting so it was postponed and has been reworked into 0.10. So! There's a pretty good reason that there's been a slight delay in the board being updated this time around. If you've been lurking around the board recently, you might've seen some... large changes. Let's go over why! With the new Roboquest update roadmap, there seems to be an indicative time period where the game will fully release. I've been willing to restructure the board to be less of a pain to navigate for everyone involved, and as of this post, I've put the largest amount of elements that I suppose will be there indefinitely in place.

Considering the sheer amount of changes, I owe you a changelog. So, you're getting one whether you like it or not!

Speedrun 0.10 leaderboard update changelog: General Changes:

  • All previous runs have been moved over the new system
  • 0.4.x and 0.5.x have been sunset for only having a single run with no accounts attached (see Archive runs)
  • Miscellaneous categories have been sunset as no one either ran or visited them :(

All Categories:

  • Solo and Co-Op categories have all been merged into 2 respective board categories. So you have LESS BUTTONS TO PRESS THANK GOODNESS
  • Difficulties and run types have been set to be sub-categories for easier navigation
  • Classes are now individual categories
  • The new powercells have absolutely zero restrictions apart from you not spending wrenches for them at run starts, go wild

Co-Op:

  • Obsoletion type has been changed to "Match All, Any Order" which means a single player can run with multiple different players without obseleting their times with other players
  • Co-Op class categories are insanely hard to implement (Because it would create 16 subcategories) so that's probably not happening. Rather I have implemented set variables to clear up at-a-glance readabilty which won't obselete each other. Refer to the Co-Op rules on how to use these new variables

Individual Levels:

  • They're hecking gone
  • No seriously they're banished to the shadow realm
  • It was just awkward to go for an individual level time purely, so with consideration, IL has been sunset until there's a true in-game submode for IL speedruns.

While these changes make the board a lot more fun to go through, this puts more careful input stress on both the runners and moderators of the board. Please put the correct values in the correct thingy :( And that marks the end of this leaderboard update! Go mess up some bots, I'm certainly going to do that after this mess of manually moving over 50+ runs (and actually watching them for the class variable lol)

Catch you all later, and I better catch you smashing badbots >:D

Heyo all!

Today I'm talking to you about what's going to happen when the 0.9 update inevitably releases. 0.9 will be set as a default category once it releases. This is due to the projected size of the update and will be done to prevent category overlapping with old times. Your times will remain on the leaderboard for their specific versions! (Note: It does mean until there are runs done, the leaderboard would appear empty, which is intended. I'm intending a clean slate because the meta will probably be highly shaken up.)

As per the previous speedrun announcement, all runs prior to the SR.C page going live have been imported from the archive to the leaderboard. Sadly, one of these runs does not currently have Speedrun accounts associated with them. You can reach out to me from Discord if the runners in question have created an account on this site!

Thank you for running the game and as always, happy robot bashing!

Heyo everyone! I finally had the time to set up version variables in the sheet, and that means: ALL old runs that ever had a valid time have been restored! They even include the version, courtesy of yours truly :P

As there are no old crucial times that are impossible to beat yet, you can rest easy that your runs WILL be displayed for the time being! This also means that if a new version drops, there will be NO more wipes!

Happy robot bashing!

Hey everyone! The 0.7 update is finally here and has brought a new wipe to the leaderboard. Thankfully, speedrunning became a lot easier with this update due to new rules! Let's go over the most important changes:

HEALTH CHANGES

  • The 0.2 Damage Bar returns! If you lose health, you can regain a portion by picking up cells.
  • Normal badbots no longer drop repair-o-cells as a consequence, but Railbots now drop ONE instead!

CRAFTING

  • The game now has a default crafting limit of 3 +This means that affix rerolls no longer have a limit!

AREA CHANGES

  • Oasis has received a bigger mid-safe zone
  • Ruins has been restructured
  • Aqua Station now houses Railbots

BOSS CHANGES

  • New Boss; Billy Boom! Special mechanic being that he has a switch on his back which requires turning off before eliminating
  • Judgeball total health pool decreased
  • Beetle Royale total health pool increased

And a crap ton of weapon balance changes which you should look at on the Steam page or the Discord! Hopefully, you'll be encouraged to run the new update!
