Any% Rules

Hi there!

I mentioned this briefly in my run submission, but I'd love to discuss the defined rules with you here. I'm not the biggest fan of the current timing, since (IMHO) there are two other potential options that yield better timings: fully destroying the head after the weezing cutscene or picking up the key to Greendale.

Fully destroying the head after the cutscene (via another hit) seems better than the current timing because that's when you actually get the victory animation for beating the boss. Alternatively, picking up the key to Greendale is a nice trigger as well since it initiates the credits. Another possibility to be to end timing on picking up the key, but require that you must first destroy Cornelius and get the victory dance.

Additionally, could you describe the purpose of the "no cheats" rule? Are there cheats in the game? I'm currently not aware of any, but I haven't really searched for any either. I'm worried someone could get confused that the save option in the menu could be considered a cheat or something.

Hi, JHobz.

Sorry I missed this before. I've been really busy lately and I thought it would send me an email every time a forum post was posted (it obviously doesn't, though). I think your timing methods are a lot better. Thank you for your input. Picking up the key sounds like a way better option since, like you said, it triggers the credits.

Also, there is a cheat menu where you can add invincibility, give yourself every item, etc. You can find it in the Secrets section on the walkthrough (https://github.com/hawkthorne/hawkthorne-journey/wiki/Walkthrough).

Thanks for responding lovebob! If you go through your account settings (or the Follow settings on for any individual games you follow), you can check a box to have it automatically email you whenever anyone replies.

Thanks for the clarification on the cheats; I just found out about the wiki recently so I haven't quite gotten to all of it yet.

As for timing, I agree the key is probably best, but I can't decide if (in the game's current state), it's plausible. I've kinda gone back and forth on this one in my head a bunch. I may contact the developers and see if they'll make a short cutscene after the wheezing text for kicking Cornelius since right now it's a bit buggy and you don't always get the victory animation. I'm hoping they'll also switch the credits skipping to require the Start/Menu button, since right now if I were to pick up the key and then split, it would instantly skip the credits (since I use the spacebar), which is kind of a buzzkill.

Per my other forum post, I have a bunch of ideas for this game page, so I'd love to chat with you about them in a real-time setting, maybe via Discord or something. If that sounds good to you I can send you my Discord tag, or we can use Twitter DMs or Twitch whispers or something.

Thanks!

Thank you for telling me that I could do that in the settings!

I would also like to speak in real-time but I have no mic so it would have to be some text-based platform. My Twitch username is lovebob123 if you would like to use that!

you could use Discord and set up a private server for "Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne", its a pretty good program for text/voice.

also it would be easier to set your twitch in your speedrun.com profile so this way people can find a better to contact you! Maybe think about setting up a twitter if you dont have one.
