Hello fellow Pilots !

The Gundam Speedrun Discord is now up and running. I included all the current games on the leaderboards as a specific channel for each community to discuss, as well as general chats and voice coms.

If you join, please let me know, if you're a runner, series/game mod or just interested in the game in general, so i can assign you a role, that fits. (before that, you can only see 2 channels, to avoid spam/flooding of the server :))

https://discord.gg/AxJpY54

If you have anyone else, who runs a gundam game, be sure to let them know as well !

Cheers, // P_BURRR

Hello,

since @spacegy4 is not aware of the current ruleset, will post this on the forum again.

Unlike the "old" category for "Story Mode - Normal difficulty" Runs for Easy & Hard will start the timer on selecting the mobile suit, because it is more competitive.

If you @spacegy4 , who was absent for the last months, did not realize that, please do so for future runs.

Thank you very much. // BURRR

EDIT: Leandro & I kept the rules for "Story Mode - Normal Difficulty" because of tradition. It is a flawed system tho, losing 1-2 seconds on the selection screen, just for playing with the Mobile Suit, you want. Also the Rule for getting a specific RNG was removed from all categories, since it was absolutely bad, especially, when it comes to resetting runs.

As of the 20th March 2019, rule changes for emulator were made.

This results in the following:

ALLOWED:

BANNED:

  • ZSNES
  • no$sns
  • bSNES
  • Snes9x version 1.4x and lower

This is due to inaccurate emulating times found in those emulators. (as well as other glitches like graphical and sound errors)

This inconsistency was found my LeandroAmadeu and tested as well by myself.

Also, this rulechange creates the most accurate experience for all runners.

A short comparison between SNES9X 1.53 and ZSNES 1.51 can be found here:

(watch in 0.25 speed and you can see the speed differences)

Notes for this comparison: Emulators used: Snes9x 1.53 & ZSNES 1.51

ZSNES loading times are significantly faster (by about 1,5 seconds per loading screen) and instabile frame rates during combat. (+ 2-5 frames skipped, resulting in faster animations, combat starts faster, etc.)

This will affect all new runs and runners. These changes were made to have the most accurate times possible.

Thank you for your attention.

TL;DR - Rule Changes:

  • Leaderboards will change timing method to IGT (added up after each stage)
  • Normal Stats category is gone, since there is no point yet to speedrun it (slower, inconsistent, etc)
  • After you die in a phase, you have to reset, since IGT is not accurate anymore

ALL TIMES WE BE REVIEWED AND IGT ADDED. :)

Hello everyone!

Since there are new runners learning the game and submitting runs already (or in the future), i was doing some calculations on how to adjust the leaderboards.

FACT HERE: Emulator loading times are WAY, WAY, faster, than Console. This not only leaves console runners behind getting WR, due to losing 6-10 seconds on every single "Phase" (or stage) loading screen, but it makes everything not competitive anymore.

As a mod and active runner of this game, was in a struggle of making changes. There were these options:

  1. Make Emulator runs separated from Console runs

Answer: This is bad, because it will divide a small community into running on Emulator or PS2, which makes it just not competitive !

  1. Add a specific amount of time to Emulator runs

Answer: This is very inconsistent due to loading times on console being so much different and even on emulator it is different by a couple of frames per stage.

  1. Use the In-Game Timer (or IGT for short) after each stage and add it up after the run

Answer: This is the best way to go. The most accurate way to time runs for personal best.

So now, every run will be re-timed to In-Game Timer or IGT.

This is due to those inconsistent loading times the PS2 has versus the emulator. A detailed comparison can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ufX672GsI3bwN3V5OPiwhQ_b-Hy387o4w-wIgUjQBoE/edit?usp=sharing

This compares: Route A - Easy (1) - Max Stats PandaBURRR (13:13 RTA) vs. skillmammu (RTA 13:00)

While skillmammu's run is faster by 13 seconds RTA, PandaBURRR's run is 1 minute 19 seconds and 23 milliseconds faster on overall IGT.

This makes PandaBURRR's run faster IGT, but slower RTA due to the loading times in the sheet.

A detailed video will be released on this (don't worry, it takes a lot of work, but those times are precisely done to each frame.)

Where does this leave us right now?

Emulators are still allowed on the normal leaderboards. RTA timing can be done, but is not measured for any run. IGT will be the timing for all runs to be competitive.

This makes us not dividing the runs into 2 categories and makes times as fast, as you are on each stages, without worrying of getting a console and playing on it. :)

Side-Changes:

  • Categories in general will not longer have "Normal Stats"

Reason: Slow, and nobody runs it actually. Also losing a stage will now make the run invalid. See below.

  • Since IGT is a new timing method, taking a LOSS during a run, will be counted as invalid. Runs now have to be completed without losing a single stage. (especially counts for Normal and Hard difficulty)

Reason: You could basically lose a fight during a run and still get WR after countless tries. Resetting a fight all over again is not a way to go in a speedrun. So if you take a LOSS, it's a reset.

I know these are a lot of changes, but i've took my days off to actually make them as good and competitive as possible for everyone. Not having PS2 Console and PCSX2 Emulator separated, was my goal, and with the IGT we can do this.

It means a lot of work to do for me as a mod, but also it secures the most accurate runs of this game !

Thank you for reading !

PS: As I stated, i will release a video on that in a few... gimme some time tho, i'm not that good at video editing ! =)

Cheers, PandaBURRR

I estimate the current Plus Mode Run around 11,5 hours.

Hello everyone ! Browsing through the site, i saw some games were not listed under Gundam as a series. I tried to change it for one game, that i added myself, which is: https://www.speedrun.com/Kidou_Senshi_Gundam_Seed_Destiny but i can't seem to add the series to it.

Other games would include: https://www.speedrun.com/Mobile_Suit_Gundam_Side_Story_The_Blue_Destiny

https://www.speedrun.com/SD_Gundam_Dimension_War

and

https://www.speedrun.com/Gundam_Breaker_3

Is it possible to add those to the series as well, so people can all around find them easier?

Thanks a lot !

This graphic will show you, which setting you should apply when doing arcade mode runs.

Make sure it saves after going out of the menu.

It is now necessary to show the option menu, before doing Arcade mode runs, to really verify they're legit.

Emulators are allowed on the leaderboards using PCSX2 1.4 upwards!

Hello everyone!

I'm going to share my newest addition to run the game in a new exciting way, which is Bingo JSRF. Like every other Bingo, timer starts on the New Game button and ends when collecting the last topic of the bingo.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1orL7WZRuipG2OxSTvSPiPKpGUQJW5IbLeyeSibUGEIE/edit#gid=0

So far I included:

  • 5 optional Characters to pick up with each row (Rhyth, Jazz, Cube, Soda, Boogie ; marked in red)
  • 5 Street Challenge Specials (Dogenzaka Hill Avenue Grind, Shibuya Terminal 13 platforms, Highway 0 Wallrides, 99th Street Gate Grind, Rokkaku-Dai Heights Chimney#1 grin)
  • 5 Street Challenge points (Chuo Str. 60k, Sewers 100k, Kibogaoka Hill 250k, Skyscraper 110k, Sky Dino 10k)
  • 5 Street Challenge trick combo (99th Str. 50 tricks, Chuo Str. 30 tricks, Shibuya 25 tricks, Bottom Point 50 tricks, Hikage Str. 55 tricks)
  • 4 Street Challenge grind combo (Sky Dino 50x, Highway Zero 15x, Kibo 20x, Bottom Point 20x)
  • 1 Street Challenge air combo (FRZ 8 air combo)

This is just a work in progress file, and i want to add more goals to it, so i we will have a bingo randomizer on https://bingosync.com/

My thoughts so far are:

  • all 5 optional chars before chapter 9
  • all street challenges added
  • everything gets randomized
  • every glitch allowed (out of bounds, skips, etc)

MAYBE

  • optional character in chapter 9, like Love Shockers, Immortals, etc.

To me, this would add a new dynamic to the community, as the routing would include cool tricks, skips and glitches.

Note: If you unlock a specific soul via a street challenge, you have to get it as well.

What do you think about it? =)

An example meme run with commentary on the first bingo ever can be found here:

Share your honest thoughts about that idea and how we, as a community, can improve it in this thread please.

Hi Guys,

I actually really missed to introduce myself on these forums, I apologize!

I'm PandaBURRR or BURRR for short. I mostly enjoy anime games, especially anything Mobile Suit Gundam related. I submitted a couple of games by now, mostly ones I played years ago and started to pick up again for the sake of speedrunning it. I know, that speedrunning battle/fighting games isn't really a thing, since its so luck depending, but that's actually what makes it so much fun for me, since every run can be good (or really bad :D). Atm, I am only running Kidou Senshi Gundam Seed (PS2) and Kidou Senshi Gundam Seed Destiny: Rengou (or OMNI) vs. Z.A.F.T. Plus II. The first one is more of a Sidescroller Arcade Game (which follows the plot of the MSG SEED Series Anime), the second one is the typical Arcade 3D enviroment fighting game you know nowadays from the gundam series.

I'd really love to build a community around the Gundam Series for speedrunning, tho it's not that popular outside of japan (except for example some really good runners like Spacegy4 for Gundam Wing: Endless Duel (SNES) and Cgobs for the GBA games)). So maybe we can get a discord channel up and running for these kind of games (yeah, there are a lot, but its all about the love for them mobile suits) I'm kinda clueless how to do so, so if you're interested in any kind of way, let me know in this thread or message me on my twitter. =)

I don't really care about getting WRs, Speedrunning introduced me to have so much fun playing games from my past, just faster. ^____^

"If I have the power to make a difference, I should put it to good use." - Kira Yamato (MSG Seed)

Greetings (from Germany :P haha) PBURRR
