Re-timed which shaved off ~1.5 secs from the start and ~2 secs from the end. gg!
Heyo!
Separated the N64 and PC versions and added a sub-category for emulator as well. This does mean we have considerably more categories than players but ultimately I think it's good for accuracy and as a way to allow emulator runs again.
As for reasons for separating PC and N64, I think it's pretty clear they run at least a bit differently. Some of the graphics are changed slightly, the fade out doesn't happen on PC so there's definitely some difference. And when looking at omarcrafting's runs the performance differences are really big. I think some of this comes from running a 25 year old game on a modern PC and I don't really know how to make rules to specify how to get the PC version to run accurately. So just giving the PC version its own space seems like the best solution.
Emulator has its own issues. When I've tested some emulators, you're able to infinitely double jump which is very weird. I'm no emulator expert so that leaderboard is the wild west, use whatever emulator you like just pls state what version in the description. If anyone finds that a certain emulator with certain settings seems to make things run accurately, definitely open to defining a standard.
lmk if there are any complaints
all good, since it was previously verified wont delete from the board. guess this means you gotta come back and beat it tho, sub 30 awaits
Hmm, I dont know of a high score leaderboard for this game. And doing so on this site would be a bit wonky, since submissions as far as I know have to be times rather than scores
Sorry I let this sit in the queue forever lol, not sure how I feel about running a modded version of the game even if it's just visual but I'll let this one through for now. Note: The timer actually starts on file creation, which is slightly before the video starts evidently.
I know this is a silly game but can we separate N64 and PC on the leaderboards? The game pretty clearly runs differently between the two if you watch omarcrafting's runs vs an N64 run
Not sure if this has to do with the game running faster on some PCs or something, but their runs get a weapon and powerup spawn at the start of nearly every round. I suspect the game's internal timer is running a decent amount faster on PC so it cycles through opportunities to spawn a weapon faster, resulting in a near guarantee of getting a spawn whereas it requires getting lucky to get one early on N64. On N64 you basically never see the powerup and weapon already spawned in on round start before you gain control. You can comb through my 100% runs and I doubt you'll see it a single time
The animations in the game are also just playing faster, again adding to the idea that something in the game is running at different speeds.
For example here's a timestamp of the start of a run in omarcrafting's run where a powerup spawns. You see it drop from the sky and hit the ground almost instantly:
Here's what an early power-up spawn looks like on N64, it pretty slowly drops from the sky and then bounces on the ground:
It takes 8 frames for it to hit the ground in omarcrafting's run, and takes 42 to hit the ground the first time in mine, over 5x faster.
I don't wanna discourage anyone from running the game, it's very fun! But I don't think these two versions really match up. I'd suggest separating PC and N64, maybe even add emulator back as a separate thing. The original post of the emulator ban thread got deleted so I dunno the reason but I imagine it was because it was inaccurate. So since the PC version is also not accurate to the N64 version it makes sense to treat them similarly
Note: Timing ends when the number appears inside the bomb on the score screen, the same time you split for other levels. Retimed for that end timing
I'm down to create it, sounds like a good idea! Despite being made mod, I dont know anything about the game lol. So I'd need some help on what the category name/rules should be
Alternatively betastrep lemme know if you're cool with being a mod then you can create the category to your liking
iirc It was a separate category on this leaderboard for a bit before being moved. So it was a holdover from that, removed
Ignore my previous rejection and comment. Youtube video had a glitch temporarily that was on my end. Sorry about that! Nice run!
Heyo, gonna remove milliseconds since they're unnecessary for now(Congrats Fetti!). Lemme know if there are any objections to that
Also any objections to me removing this background? I think it's ugly as sin and I think the guy that added it is inactive
Heyo I added milliseconds just for the top 2 runs. It seems like Fetti's run is 3 frames faster? Maybe I'm wrong cuz Yaoyorozu said 4. Don't think it matters too much but let me know if I'm wrong on one of the timings.
If the times improve to not be the same amount of seconds I'll probably remove milliseconds from the leaderboard because most of the time they're not accurate when submitted(Since most of the time people aren't going to frame count their PBs).
Gotcha, fair enough. To present an alternative that isn't keeping it the same, could have an option for PRG0(Yes/No) on each run on the leaderboard that folks could filter on. Similar to how banjo tooie handles jinjo manipulation(https://www.speedrun.com/bt). Likewise am interested on what other folks think the best option for this is
The title's throwing me a bit, is the frustration here that only somebody on emulator or an NES with an everdrive could get a top time? I can see why that may be frustrating, although emulator is a pretty accessible option(unless you're anti-emulator, which is fair I guess). There is probably some room for a legitimate discussion on this rather than sarcasm. Curious what you suggest the solution is, splitting the leaderboard?
Heyo can Bomber Friends be tagged as a fangame? tyty https://www.speedrun.com/bomber_friends
Heyo, can you tag Bomberman(Scratch) as a fangame and also a webgame(if you can have multiple tags)? tyty https://www.speedrun.com/bombermanscratch
This is a neat trick. Unfortunately when I do it it's a bit slower than the regular strat cuz I have to wait for the bird.
I think if you get there a little slower(or maybe faster) than I do it does save time. I did a crude comparison loading a state on the top right platform and timing till the end of the stage and this saved almost a second when I didn't have to wait at all for the bird.
Nice find!
