PS1 Emulator Rules (Updated 5/2022)
Germany

Hey everyone.

From now on only these emulators will be accepted for PS1 speedruns:

For an easier verification process, it is highly encouraged to show the emulator window (Mednafen/XEBRA) or the core settings (RetroArch) at some point in your submission.

RetroArch's settings must match the following:

  • CPU Dynarec: Disabled (Beetle Interpreter)
  • Dynarec DMA/CPU Event Cycles: 128 (Default)
  • CPU Frequency Scaling (Overclock): 100% (native)
  • GTE Overclock: Disabled
  • GPU Rasterizer Overclock: 1x (native)
  • CD Loading Speed: 2x (native)
  • CD Access Method: Synchronous
  • PAL (European) Video Timing Override: Disabled
  • Skip BIOS: Disabled

All runs on other emulators that were submitted before this date will stay on the leaderboards. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.

EDIT 4/2021 (Mysticore): Removed ePSXe from the list of accepted emulators to have consistent rules across both 3D Gex games. Existing runs done on it will remain on the leaderboards.

EDIT 5/2022 (Mysticore): Specified the required settings for RetroArch and added the recommendation to show these settings when submitting a run on said emulator.

Isn't bizhawk also accurate?

Germany

@nyarlathotep Yes, but BizHawk's PSX core is just a Mednafen port, and somewhere you have to draw the line. And we would not really like to allow BizHawk because of how easy it is to fake an RTA run with TAS tools.

N64 Rules Update

Hey everyone. There have been a few rules updates/clarifications, mostly regarding N64 categories.

  • [N64] Item duplication is now allowed in No Wrong Warp, No TV-Cancel and All Remotes. It remains banned in 100% and No Item Duplication, as it would defeat the purpose of those categories.
