So speedrun.com just released a new subscription update!
Here are my thoughts on it! So far, pretty trash! The features that they give are pretty wack and useless in every way!
Speedrun.com Subscription Features:
- Ad-Free: You must pay to remove ads (Just use an adblocker)
- Early Access: Paying to get crappy features on our site
- Boosts: Spend more money to remove ads for others (srsly just use an adblocker)
- Supporter Forum: A forum with less people but you get to talk to your fellow SRC simps
- Supporter Badge: An icon that shows your a SRC Simp
- Extra Name Badge: We don't care about simplicity, have another icon
- Animated Username: useless...
- Supporter Codes: fortnit gift card but for a crappy website
Plus, this is a monthly payment to milk every single cent out of it users...
this is a monthly payment to milk every single cent out of it users...
There is also a yearly option and this update isn't that bad
i mean yeah it's not spectacularly substantive but if it actually was any features of substance being paywalled people would hit the fucking roof immediately, part of it is just an intangible goodwill thing and not a pure "value for money" thing
basically idk man u trippin I award this update the patented bronze trophy of "eh, fair enough I guess"
dont even humour the idea of cr*pto integration in SRC, they might just do it
same @Willem, sadly i didnt nut once from that wrinkly rotten thing the thing that made it worse was she had a bayc sticker on her minge🤢
what if there is, give it a week
mf really putting on the google search bar: "free ip grabber 2022 no virus free 2022"
bro... you relies they are implementing this to keep the site running and help with server costs and other things hell settera level boards wont even load lmfao, at least with this feature you can help with site management fixing bugs and overall supporting this community
@notitsam you are clearly a very young and new member to the speedrunning community and to speedrun.com. The website was completely different before elo took over, I still would say it was mostly better (minus the servers being under a lot of pressure). The amount of negative and unwanted features they added over time is huge, the amount of features that the community actually wanted were very small.
Most of us dont want to support a company that doesnt listen to us and seemingly doesnt care about us or the website.
Pros of this update:
- With the site becoming profitable they can hire more staff which means we get updates faster and better tested
- With boosting you can randomly get no ads without having to pay anything
- If the site is profitable enough they might even reduce the ads or make them less intrusive for people that aren't paying
- seeing a subscription model like this likely gives people that work on competing sites a motivation boost, and competition drives better development
I'm not really trying to defend ELO here, it's just that there are upsides to this that some might not see at a first glance. Pretty sure i could write a longer list of cons than pros.
