The whole point of adding "Max Payne Category Extensions" is to give the opportunity to play the games in different categories which aren't made for the official leaderboards of the various Max Payne games, where one could simply request a category for a different concept for a run (a mod for the game, a different set of rules or a segment of the game/run) and since not being the "official" leaderboard, they can fit perfectly with it. This leaderboard would include the whole Max Payne franchise and would give the runners the freedom to play the game however they wish, and just overall have fun with different speedrunning ideas.
The way I thought for people to request categories is just by making a forum post requesting it and describing it and we'll add it, nothing too fancy anyway lol.
Hi, so as you may know if you are part of the max payne speedrunning discord, there has been a recent discussion about the "mp2.init" file, which gives you access to the game's data and allows you to edit how the game works, one of the things that are editable is the game's field of view, although there is no substancial problem in editing this, doing so would mean doing what was stated earlier as in changing the game's data. The kind of data that is included in mp2.init involves default health, enemy behaviors, etc. This is a file you can access by opening the file with notepad. I would like to know everyone's opinion about it by voting whether:
A - It should be allowed to edit the file only changing the fov
or
B - The file shouldn't be editable at all.
Hello, I thought of adding Individual Level leaderboards for Max Payne 2, If anyone ever wants to take a stab at runs for levels, you can submit them on the corresponding level leaderboard.
But now clarifying the rules for the runs:
-Runs are timed RTA (Real Time Attack), the timing starts after the initial cutscene is over or is skipped and the player gains control of Max, however, it is also approved to use a save file that has Max standing at the starting position of the level, and ends once the load screen for the next level appears, however, for "That Old Familiar Feeling", the timing ends upon the cutscene of Vlad dying.
-All runs MUST be on Dead on Arrival Difficulty, the use of quicksaving/quickloading is allowed.
-All weapons/ammo, painkillers and bullet time bonuses must be brought over from other levels (this means using Developer Keys/Cheats in order to obtain weapons, ammo, painkillers, or bullet time is not allowed). The reason for this is because there are specific weapons that are normally not obtainable at specific levels (For example, an M4 Carbine at P1C1, Elevator Doors) and also there are specific levels in which it isn't normally possible to have bullet time bonuses right before playing them.
However, the use of Developer Keys/Cheats to refill Max's health prior to starting the runs is allowed.
Also, feel free to use this thread to ask any questions you may have.
Hi Joe
I have noticed from your max payne runs that in the prologue for part III (2nd nightmare), In the blood trails part, you are able to see every blood trail clearly and also the baby cradle at the end. In my case I get a lot of fog and I am only able to see close blood trails, which sometimes leads to me getting lost because I am currently learning to speedrun the game. To show you what I mean:
