Shared Record History Of Any% And No OOB

Since some techniques that spawned distinct categories were only found later the early record progression of these categories is identical.

Early Segmented Runs

The history of Gothic 1 speedruns starts with segmented runs. Years went by before someone tried to run Gothic in a no reset setting. The very first segmented speedrun was intentionally not using glitches and got shared on fan-forums in 2004 or 2005:

2:05:?? by TheWonderer (Link)

TheWonderer then followed this with a "bugrun" in early 2007. He killed the troll near the start with the shrink scroll to learn Acrobatics in the New Camp. He also got a mana ring and ice arrow scrolls there to be able to kill the Fire Golem at Xardas' tower. At the tower he also grabbed speed potions from a chest and went to the temple and killed the orc priests mostly using the golem magic.

33:?? by TheWonderer (Link)

In 2008 Saradoc improved upon this by going directly to the golems and having the Ice Golem kill the Fire Golem by first freezing the player and then shooting ice arrows as the Fire Golem runs towards the player. Also he strafed through the corner of gates instead of opening them.

24:?? by Saradoc (Link)

Shortly afterwards TheWonderer used the knowledge of the gate strafe glitch to improve upon it again:

In 2011 Frexmega used the newly discovered M glitch to save a lot of time again:

No Reset Runs

In 2013 Saradoc did the first known Gothic speedrun under no reset conditions:

20:18 by Saradoc (Link)

18:43 by Saradoc (Link)

17:25 by Saradoc (Link)

16:28 by Saradoc (Link)

At this point OOB clips were figured out and the category was split.

No OOB

Again the history until the discovery of the catapult is shared. The category was only officially split in February of 2023.

At this point the catapult was discovered.

No OOB (No Catapult)

The first WR run with a catapult happened in 2017, but the category split only happened in 2023. No submitted run seems to beat the 14:32 by Blacksecret from 2017, so that record seems to have stood for over 5 years technically.
Interest in this category came up when a tournament with this ruleset was proposed. In the process of that comatose uploaded a video showcasing a route with safe strategies:

14:12 by comatose (Link)

This would technically remain the best publicly known time until the tournament started on 2023-02-12 and the 3rd race happened:

14:03 by Saradoc (Link)

It was again improved in the 4th race:

14:02 by Blackhuf (Link)

The semifinal was a Best of 3 between Saradoc and Blackhuf featuring two more improvements:

13:54 by Saradoc (Link)

13:33 by Saradoc (Link)

At this point calls for a category split became vocal and serious record attempts started:

Any%

The last run before the category split was 16:28 by Saradoc in 2013 (see above). The category was split in 2016, when a method to clip out of bounds semi-reliably was figured out, but immediately declared cancer.

Glitch-Restricted

This category also started out purely with segmented runs. The first being a run shared on fan-forums in 2004 or 2005:

2:05:?? by TheWonderer (Link)

Someone improved on this run in 2013. It's important to note that there was no such thing as a ruleset back then and it was all up to the runner what to allow or disallow:

1:55:01 by Sleepy (Link)

The first real time run was submitted to speedrun.com in 2017:

1:48:04 by Saradoc (Link)

Blackhuf was running the Damageless category but got a run so good it was record in two categories simultaneously:

1:40:17 by Blackhuf (Link)

He then focused on just this category and made a huge improvement again:

1:35:59 by Blackhuf (Link)

No Major Glitches

This category was created in 2017. Technically the 2:17 run by Saradoc would be the first record in this history (see above).

This category was created in 2017. Technically the Glitch-Restricted record history up to the 2:08:20 by Saradoc (see above) would be the first records.

Damageless

The challenge of beating Gothic 1 without taking any damage has been considered for a time, but the first known serious attempts have been done by Saradoc in 2017 with the first successful attempt on the 12th try:

6:06:?? by Saradoc (Link)

Note that that playthrough was neither intended to be a speedrun nor did it follow the existing rules for the Glitch-Restricted category. The first actual speedrun of the category was performed by comatose and a category was created shortly afterwards:

Demo Glitch-Restricted

The first speedrun of this category was done in 2017:

4:47 by Saradoc (Link)

But that run contains an (unintentional) trick to not get fall damage by landing a running jump on an edge, which was found to be very exploitable, so in 2023 that trick was banned and the run replaced by a new one without that trick:

4:20 by Saradoc (Link)
