Do you have rules for this game? Also, for those of us that prefer real hardware, can we submit in-game time instead of realtime?
Since it was just me running I don't have any real rules for this game yet. I think doing in game time is probably for the best in the long run since it'd make the game less about optimal menuing and more about actually going fast. So maybe I could go count the in game time in my run and we could convert the leaderboard to that. I'd be willing to get the GCN version to run now that I have a capture card.
I think excluding loading time is still going to be optimal vs. banning emulators, my xbox hdd will load the game faster than my optical drive or yours (my disk rotted) and also new players should be able to use Emus so we don't discourage anyone else that happens to take interest
but yeah it'd be cool to compete with you a lil on this one when I get this time down :)
The one thing about doing in game time is that it'll change the route drastically. The main reason I rush the Sports 800 is because you don't need to spend time tuning it to go fast. The Viper ends up being faster late game. Could make for some interesting variation though.
I'm totally down for this though because I prefer the way the cars handle when tuned by a lot, I tend to avoid touching any settings aside from transmission to save RTA time.
I just counted my in game time and came out with 1:02.907. If you wanna count yours (maybe in another run while you do it instead of going back) I'll convert the leaderboard to in game time.
Okay, so maybe a fun middle ground is that time gets calculated to EXCLUDE loading, but only loading? since it's the only thing that will make a difference? everything else will be the same speed and I feel like there still needs to be a trade off between no setup and fast (Sports 800) and long setup but better (Viper)?
Good idea! That definitely would work. I'll put that in the rules for runs, and get to figuring out my time minus loads sometime later.
I’ll wait until next run for it. I’m new to speedrunning in general, what do you think is the best way to go about it? Just pausing for loads?
Yeah pausing for loads probably works well enough. Footpedal or keyboard on floor is optimal lol
I've been using a pedal from my 360 racing wheel to split when playing games on console. Becomes a lil more complicated when using an emu or PC game as RetroArch seems to really hate multiple of the same controller.
My wheel is a cheapass MadCatz one and if i'm not mistaken it just gets mapped to the 360 buttons instead of actual wheel axis
Hey, with the whole quarantine lockdown going on in the UK at the moment, I'm looking at running this on my PS2, so a couple things
Firstly, whats happening about IGT? If it gets added, I'll be happy to retime, and B I'll have to warn you and say that my capture may end up looking terrible, the last time I used it I semi broke it so it'll either come out a little soft, or completely ruined.
Thanks for reading
I'll experiment with IGT a bit and see if I think it's worth using. I have the PS2 version of this as well and a capture card. I think we need a discussion about this though since it'd invalidate current runs to just use raw IGT and not just delete loads or something.
Raw IGT sounds like the move to me. Glad to see y'all have mega revived this game. Would love to run this on my PS2 again soon.
