Hey all,
Would there be any interest for a "Glitchless" run?
There's been a few ideas on what actually is a glitch. Some people say wall clipping isn't a glitch some say it is.
I personally think that clipping to save frames etc isn't a glitch but if you're clipping to do moblin skip and the jump in D4 and block pushing etc then yes it is.
For me Glitchess% would mean playing the game as it was "intended" to be played by the developers.
Grey area would be bomb arrows but I personally think they should be allowed as there's the animation for them.
What are your thoughts on this and what would you class "glitchless" as?
Discuss.
I would be up for this, but it is very difficult to tell what is intended. Some glitches are very obvious, but I would say in regards to grey areas:
- Wall clips allowed (unless as you said, it's used for a glitch)
- Stealing from shop allowed
- Bomb arrows allowed
- Gohmas not required
- Arrows on anything allowed (lanmola included)
However, I am not sure on early D5 boss key skip, or the D4 shortcut.
The deload trick is technically not a glitch either, to be used for walrus skip or early D2. The game just has a limit of how many sprites that can be loaded at once and when there are too many on screen, new ones won't load. This is a standard trick used in many other speedruns as well.
Any kind of text skips; pausing for dungeon entrances, boss starts and chests, should all be allowed. S&Q is an obvious yes.
"Intended" is a terrible definition for a glitchless category, for several reasons. I've gone into some depth with it in my "What is a glitch" document (Still a beta and far from the finished project, but if anyone is interested: http://www.mediafire.com/view/g6jatqkb6tx5jzk/What_is_a_Glitch.docx )
Well, we already have Legacy%, which is basically No Major Glitches. I dont think there's the need for another category.
Edit: btw, would the Flock clip (enter D2 faster/skip a key in D3) be allowed in Legacy%?
I think Legacy was just for "old tricks" so pretty sure it wouldn't be allowed but i'm on the same page as Deln it's a wall clip :)
