Any% CO-OP Question

Hi! I was wondering about the Co-Op category of Any%. In some of the runs posted, the team will have one person "drop out" for sections for a single player to do alone. Usually this makes a section considerably easier or less risky (I'm thinking podrace, mustafar escape, etc.). If you can just have one player drop out, what's the point of Co-Op? Are there any big sections where Co-Op would be faster than just playing Solo? I guess I thought that the whole idea of Co-Op would be to do everything all the time with two players, no"drop out," with the added difficulty of always having two active players onscreen (it takes lots of communication and coordination). Any thoughts on this? I was just curious.

The rules state,"Both players do not need to be present the entire time." That means that it does not matter if there is solo play as long as there is at least one instance of Co-Op. It is almost always faster to play with two players joined in, the only exception being transition skips and maybe a handful of sections. In my Co-Op run I opted to play solo during the transition skip parts since they can only be performed with with one player at a time, and during parts that would either be easier for me to do by myself, or places where the other runner was not comfortable. While it can be a bit dumb and unfair to the other player to have drop outs, it's a part of the game and the instances of dropping out are far less than the instances of both players being joined in.
