Classic Mega Man games on Speedrun.com when? Four months have passed since the last time we talked about it and API synchronization between the two sites has not been developed to my knowledge. Can we get an update? Who's working on it? What circumstances have to change? I very much hope 2018 will be the year of complete classic Mega Man boards on Speedrun.com
@European_Union I think I've been pretty patient. Four months is a long time to not be spamming the forums with thread posts about it. Which Discord is this being discussed in? I'd like access to it. Maybe I can get updates from there and post them here if no one else wants to.
Also, if it's going to take another four months before people are ready to make this happen, let me just say that I am still willing and able to manually set up leaderboards for each classic Mega Man game on my own. I could have all 10 done in two months or less. Say the word and I'll get to work.
I can have the entire series up in two days or less, without using SQL, but that's not the point.
Pac's been actively working with the MML admins to get a synchronization going. You don't have permission to see the page (I think?), but here's what it looks like currently:
So yes, work is being done. And while we're on the subject, Donkey Kong Country is being worked on, too.
@ROMaster2 Is it just me that's not allowed to see this board? I'd like to be able to look at it on this site. What needs to be done before you guys will allow me to see it again?
Also, what work needs to be done before all the boards will be in working order? Can you tell me which people specifically are involved in doing the work? I want to know as much about the situation as possible, both to satisfy my curiosity and to maybe even find a way to help. I know a few tech-savvy people that could potentially be useful in this situation given the right motivation. Maybe I can pay them to help set it up for everybody.
You Dont have permissions to view the board, i think only the fullmods/admins have the permission
What needs to be done for you to see it again is development needs to finish. Knowing tech savvy people doesn’t mean anything since they can’t just walk into a development environment and instantly know how to help. They’d have to learn a bunch of things about both sites first.
Just wait, and have patience. Something like this is going to take time. I get you want this to finish, but hounding for access or all the information is going to annoy rather than get you anything.
it kind of feels like you guys are trying to bait me here and I'm not really interested in all that. I just want to hear a progress report. Surely this thread could do with staying on that topic and we don't have to make it about me.
"Can we get an update? Who's working on it?"
Pac was working with the DKC community on synchronization for DKC boards, which probably extends to Megaman to some extent. There's not an official timeline. For clarification, I think the Megaman screenshot linked might just be the old board that was there previously and is now only visible to site staff.
"What circumstances have to change?"
It need to get finished and implemented in an agreeable fashion on both sites. I'd like this discrepancy to be resolved as much as anyone else.
It's been two months since the last post and four months before that since the last thread. That's a total of half a year since I started keeping track of how long I've been asking about this. Any new updates to speak of? Last we heard, Pac was working with on the DKC boards. What progress have we made?
ROMaster2 claims "I can have the entire series up in two days or less" about Mega Man and I imagine the same could be said about DKC as there are less games and less runs total. If the job isn't close to being finished, is it time to talk about changing circumstances? I'm wondering if we could define "agreeable fashion" for the record so we know what the goal is on both sides. What exactly are we hung up on and how can I contribute?
I agree with CriscoWild. I don't doubt the hard work being made on the boards by the staff, but we don't have any information other than "we're still working on it" and "don't start the drama again". I would really love to have a classic MM leaderboard on this site, even after some long months of waiting, but we don't know what part of the work is done and what isn't.
If you’re looking for classic Mega Man in the meantime until auto API sync is set up, use their main site https://megamanleaderboards.net
I mean im not into MegaMan or Donkey Kong all that much but i would like to see all speedruns on here to become one big speedrunning community and not have to log in on a bunch of different websites for 1 game mainly
Well, frankly, a big reason this site is so successful is that it's not trying to make everything "one big speedrunning community." It provides tools for individual, self-regulating communities.
All we're asking for is some clarity. We understand if life happens and people get busy. We're offering to help. The worst that can happen is we don't contribute at all, in which case we're still in the position we have now. The prolonged silence makes it seem like something else is going on.
