Yeah we discussed it a bit in the discord, I shaved a few seconds off level 5 with it but I think resizing midway through a run should be banned. You can't go OOB if you keep it the same size but you can still get cornerboosts that allow you to save a few frames.
Yes I spoke with hsblue and he shared with me how this strat works and what the community's thoughts are about it. I still think this would be a fun concept to play out, so I may spend some time on it
Here's how I'd optimize the execution:
Mouse sens to minimum so I can jerk it from up to down, F bound onto RMB and Esc to MMB (assuming you use WASD as do I)
Oh wow, good idea. Maybe we could have an OOB category? As a misc cateogy of course, not a main category.
Oh, wow, you don't have to resize when going to the bottom. This is some decent tech
Looks like to the right is also viable, but only through a corner
All of a sudden both top and bottom are viable, just not the sides - weird.
Level 12 - this is getting kinda interesting
Well, this turned out to be a disappointment of the century. Resizing doesn't just let you clip - it removes all the collision, enemy hitboxes, everything - except you're still able to complete the levels. The optimal speedrun for this would be to resize and move through as much stuff as possible blind. I guess there's still some skill to it, but the appeal dropped siginificantly in my opinion as opposed to just clipping through certain walls.
Turns out it's a bit more situational - some collision still exists, and so in level 3 you get stuck on a wall if you resize. It also displaces the square, so if you're going back from blind mode, and there are lots of things flying around, you will certainly die. I guess it still makes for an interesting take for a category cause level 12 will be pretty easy now, and I'm sure people would like that. Gotta keep trying I suppose.
Also, I believe if there's anything that's gonna fix this in theory is that you get a speed boost when clipping back in. You could just hold a direction with no collision, but no collision also means no speed boosts. In a way speed would factor into this equation and motivate runners to take more risks.
It's possible in every version so long as you'd use Flash Projector and have the option to resize checked. That aside, I'm giving up on this - unfortunately. It was exciting when it was just clipping through walls, but dealing with awkward controls (technically you can do it with just the keyboard, and Ctrl + W closes the game) and ignoring obstacles (in a way that literally makes the footage a blur) that would normally kill you is just lame.
I guess the only lesson to take away from this is that resizing breaks the game.
It's even worse than that - you can skip the balls as well, so the shortest most direct route works. This whole thing is laughable.
