I, personally, wouldn't mind a 5 second penalty (that can be easily set up on LiveSplit) for using the emulator to compensate for the lag spike on M.O.O. Then again I suppose this would need to be agreed by other people as well. Either that or it could be possible to set up a sub-category (like is currently present with PS2 and PSP) for the emulator.

Just as an addition to this, I have managed to do a proper Any% run of SM. Maybe it'll help to see the differences between Emu and Regular PSP.

yes it is possible to sort with slower times, but what I was wondering was if it would be possible to have the points (say 1000) be what would sort the leaderboard, but have the fastest time with 1000 points at the top, then that is sorted by all the fastest times (because there will be some people with 100 points who have faster times than others), then if someone has 900 points, then that would be underneath all the 1000 points regardless if they are faster than some of the people with 1000 points, then the 900 pointers would be sorted by fastest time, and the same continues for below 900 points.

One thing I was possibly thinking of was maybe just have the variables that if someone gets 1000 points then they use 1000 in the variable selection, then 900 - 1000 would be 900, etc, but this is not really preferable for me.

so in essence, the ship loading would cancel out the time saved from Save/Load. Also I didn't really see an ATB run until yesterday so didn't know where they were. 100% isn't really a category I'm planning to do either (maybe not until there's a run of the category at least)

Montgomeryshire, WalesInstaSim6 years ago

What do you mean by backup time and load the part? I assume it's Save and Reload, but then that's not really needed in SM runs anyway right?

LiveSplit, imo, is the best Splits Program anyone can use, but Auto Splitters and load removers wouldn't work on consoles regardless. I know someone in another community has tried to make a load remover for a console game, but it's confusing. Best thing to do to remove loads is as the Moderators have suggested, to just count the load times and remove them.

Montgomeryshire, WalesInstaSim6 years ago

As far as I am aware (I've reached up to Luna) loads seem faster than Disk (but that's to be expected) but compared to download I am unsure. I had a look at the Current WR run, and I did see the load into the Kallidon race appears to be faster on Emu than it does on PSP, though the ship loads don't look to be faster on Emu, though I am not too sure of this.

From my testing, I've been getting a constant 30fps when playing SM, though it sometimes drops to 15-20 during loads however this doesn't appear to be an issue.

Weezl has also said on Discord that apparently Poki loads 2 secs slower on Emu

As far as I am aware, you can't use a Load Remover on console. The load remover will only work properly on PC. Hope this clears things up for you :)

Not sure if this is possible at current (I do not believe it is) but would it be possible to implement a way that your leaderboard position is affected by certain variables.

For example: If a level has a certain amount of points you can get (let's say 1000) and someone gets 700 points, then their leaerboard position would be lower than someone who gets 1000 points, but if someone who has 700 points has completed a run in 30 minutes would be higher up the leaderboard than someone who has completed in 35 minutes.

I'm unsure if it would be possible to implement something like this, but it's just a suggestion if it isn't currently a feature

I'll try that setup to see if it'll work for me :)

Thank you for the help

I was wondering if you could change my name to "InstaSim". Since this is the name I use on most of my social sites, it'll help make things clearer to people who watch my speedruns who to look for on Leaderboards.

Thank you :)

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me :)

Ye there is progression elements in Ratchet & Clank, but once I get a good run I shall try to submit it to show. Just out of curiosity though, is this marathon going to be hosted at a venue which will require me to travel anywhere or will I just need to be streaming to my own Twitch Channel (or the Marathon Channel) to take part?

I'm thinking of maybe submitting a Speedrun at the end of this month (when I get a good run :P ) but I'd like to just ask some questions:

  • Would Ratchet & Clank be a viable game to submit? It is an Action-Adventure kinda RPG game. It has weapons and a sort of leveling up system (at least from RaC2 onward) but you're the boss of submissions.
  • Does this marathon require me to travel anywhere? If not, then I can submit a run. If so, then I won't be able to.

NTSC defaults to 60Hz

If you ever find out how to do this again that'd be really helpful for the speedrunning community as it would then skip Pokitaru completely. Only thing is, however, don't we need to O2 mask for Gemlik Base, so we would still need to get the O2 mask since Clank would not be able to go through Gemlik Base

After doing a bit of digging around, I found out that my TV doesn't have Overscan, instead uses Aspect Ratio. I would assume that setting this to 1:1 would do the trick, though, if my memory serves me correctly, since RaC1 only runs in 720p for me, I think the image will look letter-boxed in 1:1 (which is a little strange) though I will have a look to see if this fixes the issue and respond as necessary

Montgomeryshire, WalesInstaSim6 years ago

Well that is quite strange, I will admit. When I was practicing earlier, I was using a fairly large widescreen TV, but I do have a small monitor at my disposal which I can connect my PS3 to. I will attempt with a smaller screen to see if it works better at some point :) thanks for the advice

From watching a few RaC1 Any% and AGB runs, there appears to be a visual clue in Orxon 1 which makes it more consistent to push Clank through the wall. I have tried to see what this visual clue is from the runs, but I can't seem to apply it myself. From what I've seen, you place Clank on the left-most side of the tree, and you are watching the tree sway to the left, and just as it's about to sway to the right, you jump through. However, when I try to apply this myself, it doesn't seem to work (I have and will be practicing it to try and get this skip consistent for myself as well).

I have tried to look around for a consistent setup so that I can try to perform this strat, but it has been to no avail, however if someone could possibly update me on the setup for the strat, I would be very grateful indeed :)

PogChamp I might (big might) be able to make it to ESA Germany 2018. First need to get good at a speedrun :P and secondly need the cash to get to Germany. Hopefully venue info and stuff will be posted soon :)
