100% clear

I'd never saw any video with the game at 100% clear. I have already dedicated a lot to achieving 100% in the SNES emulator, but no success. Unfortunately, resetting the game restarts the clear process - wathever the inserted password - and I've already lost my savestate, but my biggest progress was 86%.

I have even tried to change this percentage through PAR codes and Cheat Engine just for testing purposes, however, I don't understand these schemes pretty well and I was not able to make my changes take effect. If I remember well, the clear information is some of the most difficult to change and a single entry is not enough to change it. So: no success either.

Anyway... Does anyone has reached the ending with 100% clear? I wonder if 100% clear may change the ending in some way?

This doubt haunts me for so many years ...

Mecha Richter tried to figure this out years ago but never found out how to get to 100% either.

Here's a VOD of him doing 87% at least:

Thanks for letting me know. Apparently, this doubt will keep haunting me.

I have a feeling it could have to do with dying in every possible way slingshoting every possible object and interacting with everything with every emotion. But idk I ha e only ever gotten a 91% when I was playing as a little 9 year old with my snes.

Someone was working on this earlier in the year, though I can't for the life of me remember who it was. I think they had found a few new things but still was nowhere near 100%.

In August, kickasspancakes was trying to get 100% in a stream. Slab appeared and contributed generously by creating a script that shows all the events in the game (not just the ones that are considered for percentage). He also analyzed the game code and said that there would be no change in reaching 100%. (so sad)

Anyway, AludraKijurorin, kickasspancakes and me tried to contribute to the script developed by slab, identifying every event in the game.

Our dialogue took place on Planet Chaos Discord channel (inside 'the-lab' text channel). I didn't proceed to this research again, when I submitted my attempts, we were at 89% and, checking it now, apparently they reached 92% of identified events. The script made by slab is there. (I dont want to put a link here.)

Woah woah WOAH! That's crazy! I'm extremely impressed!

Is there a video or recording of this? I would LOVE to see how much effort this takes and if anyone ever wants to set up a 100% route!

This is amazing and incredible! Well done! I always imagined using a lua script to identify events would be the best way to find them all but my technical skills stops there.

Is it time to add a 100% category? xD

I mean... I'm not the person to ask. Unfortunately this isn't Super Metroid. The game doesn't show you your percentage when you beat it, it only gives you a message if you're 80 or higher. Technically you don't have to BEAT the game to get 100 percent, just walk through the final door. And them you have to pause to make the score appear. So where would you make the cutoff for a 100 percent run? Pausing during the final boss and displaying the score? Or would we have to pause, show the score, then u pause and beat the boss for completion sake?

Norway

I would say that beating the gum monster is still required like the regular any% run since that indicates the end of the game. Any%: Finish the game with any amount of events and 100%: Finish the game with all events.

Pausing to show off the 100% score after entering the gum monster room for at least a single recorded frame should be required as it would be difficult to verify that someone triggered all the events.

It would be awesome if the overlay script could be shared with the community so people could easily practice the runs on an emulator but I'm not sure if the overlay script and/or mouse script should be allowed on the leaderboards. That would give an unfair advantage to PC/emulator players over console players for actual runs.

It looks like a real pain to do on a controller without the overlay though so I don't know if anyone would be mad enough to do it on a console. I'm open for suggestions and ideas about how we would categorize the 100% speedruns like if overlay/mouse should be allowed, separate, banned or something else.

It'd be cool if the scripts were made public for practice use, to optimize routes so that an overlay would no longer be needed for leaderboard submissions. I don't mind if they were to be used one way or the other, controller mods are a different story, since that cannot be optimized out.

Hello there, I've uploaded the script to my newly-created Github repository. They were designed to work with version 2.6.2 of Bizhawk. They may work with other versions but I couldn't get them to. I converted and added onto the work of several other people, credit to everyone involved is in the readmes and the scripts themselves.

You can download the scripts I used here from my GitHub repository: https://github.com/SolomonSTB1973/Solomon-s-Best-Stuff

You will need Bizhawk 2.6.2 specifically.
